  1. Cool projects! Standard shapes n such, but they should be a ton o' fun. Good building music you're using so far too. Extra mojo.
  2. Add me to the list of oglers!! OMG. That 7 string makes me jones. You do incredible work.
  3. your attention to detail is nothing short of amazing! These look great.
  4. This looks very cool. I love what you did for the headstock. When i first looked at it, i wondered how you were going to fit all the tuners on there. On your friends kit-build, are you modifying the bridge? I only see 6 spots for strings.
  5. Thanks guys. Tomorrow starts the black pore filling process. I've got it sanded up to 240 and its looking pretty good. I just hope to do it justice with the finish.
  6. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CL4cNthbad0 Thanks for sharing. I hadn't heard of them before. Consider me a fan!
  7. Wow. :croudgowild That is just beautiful ! Looks so close to your original mock-up. Amazing.
  8. Thanks Dean. 'preciate the encouragement. here's some pics..... ^^ It's coming along. Still got some cleanin' up to do. My forstner bit was a hair too big for the bigger dots ,so i used black epoxy to place them. I also knocked a big chunk of padauk out of the headstock ear and had to slice them off and replace it with maple . :/
  9. here's an example of an MDF guitar body in action. and one of block. have fun with your experiment.
  10. I made good progress on this one recently. The bridge has been located and drilled for, the control cavity and output jack are done too. Abalone dot inlays on a maple board with pyramid shaped frets from SM. Worthless without pics, but an update none the less.
  11. Great tone therrr Muzz ! I dig the guitar completely.
  12. I agree - 4 stellar builds. All of them winners in their own right - i guess for me it all came down to the pics that were presented and what they showed me. curtisa__ Nice wood selection. I like the headstock and the tip o' the hat to Parker. Nice work. A bit 'plain' looking , but nice all the way around. Looks like a good player. I don't care much for tremolo systems without a locking mechanism , but that's just me being nit-picky. ScottR__ I like the shape of the body, the headstock and the volute. For a guy who doesn't build guitars very often, you are a master. Killer color and shine. Even the back shot just looks amazing. The carve and the cavity cover are again, just awesome. Great pics. Demonx__ I like the blue color- looks like an ocean shot from above.Looks like a great player . The pics leave a bit to be desired for me though. The trem arm missing is not pretty ( to me ). Also the tilt that the floyd is sitting at tells me it isn't set up yet. Again, not nice to look at. I personally would've used pup rings too. A 21 fret traditional neck calls for traditional trim,IMHO. The HS *looks* a bit off-center due to the logo/tuners being off the edge a bit too much. but it is a nice looking strat for a scrap build. I think the pics did it more injustice than anything. I'm sure its a killer axe. ShadPeters__ The Burl is great- I just don't care for the body shape. Something about a pointy SC that turns me off. I do like the hardware, and the back shot. Also love the logo. My one gripe is the pics. The first two are too similar. A close-up would've been great. You make sweet guitars, so just keep up the good work, and congrads on last months win!!
  13. Thanks for the link. It's all bone stock, but it looks like I'll be changing it to stock Gibson pots. The pups have quick connect clips to plug right into the circuit board but I'll just mod 'em.
  14. I used the GFS lipstick tubes on a mahogany explorer build. http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=43011&st=45#entry461262 They didn't have a good tone to my ears, kinda plastic-y. I think its the covers. Use them and see what you think. It's different woods and you may like the 'mellow' tone. Love the cutouts, btw.
  15. So, I picked up an Epiphone LP Ultra.( used 2008 model ) The one with the Nanomag pickup in the fretboard. It sounds great the only issue i have with it is the controls. They are WHACKED. One volume knob works as intended ,but the other three controls act like phase knobs/semi-tone pots. Should be two V and two T's but it's not. I opened it up to take a peek and found a circuit board with pots attached to it, no "regular" pots and wiring. :/ ( the nanomag has its own PCB on the back seperate from the 4 pots. ) I searched online and found no similar issues. Any ideas? I'm tempted to trash the circuit board and wire it up myself. I'll try to make a video and describe the problem better, but there it is.... A LP with whacky pots. Any suggestions?
  16. you're gonna <3 love <3 that AANJ. You did a great job on it too. cheers and beers on that one.
  17. Thanks a bunch Muzz. I was going to leave it plain /just clear ,but in testing, I liked the blue. It's a rattle can color meant to be applied over silver for an anodized look. It's translucent enough to let the grain show through . All the layers of wood called for a black edge/burst but... I 'blue' the burst though.... had to sand back some overspray.
  18. Looks good. Some tuners and strings and it'll look great. I like the color too. Looks real nice.
  19. Wez- thanks for the honest evaluation. True words there and all things I've seen myself. ( and a few you left out.) The first big project stopper was that top F-hole. The star had a bad tear-out and I had to enlarge it a few times trying to salvage it. The soundhole between the pups came out in the wrong spot for the neck humbucker . It's off-center badly. The neck heel could've benefited from some moar shaping too.there's an over-route on the bridge humbucker and it pokes out past the pup ring a little bit. :/ although I do like the volu....mump, but only because it fits my hand like a glove. 1st position barre chord is just right for it. The main reason this, and the blue chambered body i recently completed took so long was the mistake factor. I flubbed up pretty good on both of em, but i decided to continue rather than give up on them. One is Maple and Cherry. One is Maple and Black walnut- both chambered but both sound very different too. Unplugged and plugged. I'm happy with the outcome of them both, flaws be damned. I know it aint everybody's cup of tea, but its the way i build. Oh, and Muzz , not really a proto-anything, just a one-off from an existing guitar. I imagine I could put a kahler-style lock on it, but there's no tremolo. Thats a hard-tail floyd.
  20. i reckon that'll teach me to want a repaint. Took me a couple of years and some major overhaulin to bring her back. Thoughts? Citiques?
  21. so, after stripping the paint, removing the top, ditching the neck and chambering the devil out of it, I was left with only the maple "back" from the original guitar. After the ressurection of the poor thing, I ended up with this: a fanned-fret, hollowed out, overly-F holed guitar that changes color depending on your viewing angle. ^^ there she is by her sister.
  22. I ditched the Jackson neck and made one out of mahogany with a teak fretboard. Multi-scale, 25.5"/24.75" 5th fret as the perp.
