  1. You forgot 6 year olds who throw such a big temper tantrum in front of the salesmen that the father caves and pulls out his wallet. That will be one Squier Bullet, sir!
  2. I know I'm bumping a fairly older thread but hey....I share the same love for guitar center. They are prompt, courteous, knowledgeful and good looking. And now for the truth? I work at the local music store and hear complains constantly by people complaining about guitar center. My only experience with them is talking to a half wit salesman before I began working at the local music store. Surprisingly....the guy didn't know half of what I was talking about.... You know it's sad when he questions terms like "High output" "Low end" and my personal favorite...."Hex key". Better luck next time, guitar center. That was one conversation I walked away from feeling like Vai.
  3. Complete noob to refinishing guitars, here. I do tech work at the local music store but very little finishing. I've done bits of things as far as refinishings go here and there, but mainly only adventure experiments (rattle-can bombing a first act 3/4 acoustic once.....or twice.....) But I have a black drive 'strat style' body I plan on staning cherry red. The body is stll completely black, my first question is....what affect would I get my attempting to stain over the black and it's clearcoat? (because I don't want to waste the stain experimenting...) Second, does anybody have a link to a step by step process from stripping to final finished product of staining a body? I've done a ton of reading on PG up until now...and I've got a slight idea, but can anybody give me an indepth idea of what I'm up against? Thanks a ton!
  4. After reading Bill Jehle's great tutorial on creating logos on PG...I have a question involving it. I had a guitar that if all goes right, I will be staining the top of the headstock and the body cherry red. (if anybody has any random advice on doing that alone, don't hesistate to slam me with it!) So, I plan on creating a custom logo, but with the stain, at which point in the process of finishing the headstock should I apply the decal? Help appreciated greatly!
  5. Thanks dude, Actually, I forgot to mention that what I meant by 'fit the guitar' was fit the pickups. There was never a pickguard on the guitar, so all I need is the holes drilled.
  6. Right. If I was you I'd take some tooth picks, dip em in tightbond, cram em into the empty holes, break em off. Let it dry, sand em down (or trim close, dont sand your paint off). NEver ordered pick guards from them. If I was you I'd call and talk to a live person about what you need and what they have. This would be to......tighten the loose screw holes? Thanks
  7. So I have an S1010 SG "double horned cutaway" guitar I'm fooling around with. One of the changes I want to make it to add a black pickguard...found here. Product code: PG_9803-033 My first question would be the screw holes I'd have to drill are too small to ruin the tone, right? And the second is...anybody have experience putting a pickguard like this on a copy? Will it fit fine? Thanks in advance!
  8. PM sent. Yep, only the plate...both finish and wood are fine. I should try emailing epiphone if I can...a coworker talked to Allparts and they said their wasn't much hope unless I upgrade to metal...which I still doubt the screwholes are the same. I'd be too worried about doing that just yet... Bought a set the day after I mashed my guitar's potato...
  9. I think this is where to put this... So my strap disbanded and my Paul fell to the floor...smashing the input jackplate. I bought a gibson creme jackplate...not the right size. Screw holes are different...and color is different. So I had on of my coworkers call Allparts....they don't make an epiphone Les Paul jackplate. Anybody know where I can get one? I'm pretty desperate by now and any help is amazingly appreciated!
  10. Mine has a pressed '2nd' in the back of the headstock too...with a small crack. Must be another small blemish. *shrug* 2nd must mean B-stock.
  11. Arrived today....the blemish? A tiny hairline crack on the bottom of the pickguard. Wow. Plays AWESOME! Very smooth and easy to work with...has an AWESOME warm tone. Great distortion too.
  12. The local shop....I work at. We're not an authorized gibson or Epi dealer. But, I have NEVER read a bad review on this particular guitar...and that's numerous websites of research. I figured I'd just gather some opinions from here.
  13. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Epi...tar?sku=518341V Can I get some opinions on that particular guitar? I've always wanted a Les Paul and have finally saved up enough for that one. I can't afford a Gibson, but I hear Epiphone are terrible themselves....opinions? Thanks a mil!
  14. Possibly so.... But since we're on the topic of the website, can anybody give me personal opinions on their humbucking pickups? I'd think about putting them into a cheaper build. Maybe even into the S S H I have ...
  15. NEPA... I'll check it out. AC, Thanks for the advice.
