  1. Thanks a lot guys, those words, coming from people like you really encourages me! Well, i guess I should talk about this one a little... This bass i made for a customer. Actually, i have made a couple before this one, but i guess this is the one that came out the better (and i guess that always happens when you are learning...) It´s my own esign, altought based on my infuences, like CT basses and D. Huff Basses, it´s 4 string, 34" scale, jazz bass circuit, 24 frets. It´s made all from local woods (I´m from Argentina). In here we have a lot of very good woods, some very similar to the woods often used for guitarbuilding. For example, the center of the body and the sides in the back are made of a wood called CANCHARANA. Wich is VERY MUCH like mahogany, but with a stronger red colour that is just beautiful. I used two different cuts of this one, to make the sides and center a little different from the back, you can see this here. http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e171/luc...rtinelli_08.jpg On top of the sides, i used a wood called GUAYUBIRA, a harwood with this beautiful shapes, a little hard to work, but it pays. The funny thing about this wood is that it changes from one place to another, to this shapes you see in the body, to a clear, greyish colour, like you see in the fretboard, wich is made from the very same wood. For the "little wings" on the body i used INCIENSO. And for the neck, i used ZOITA, and two stripes of NOGAL for the PEGHEAD. http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e171/luc...rtinelli_07.jpg The whole bass is oil finished, that´s how i like´em the most to preserve the natural feel and look, and the body has a very thin layer of wax. Well, that´s all i can think of now! sorry for talkin too much!! Please keep giving me your opinions!
  2. Um...for every 10 centimeters, you get 100 millimeters...that's the beauty of the metric system. But I'm guessing you're asking something else. In fact, you seem to be asking three different questions about three different guitars? In that case, I'd do some searching through the forums first --the TOM angle question has been answered before. If you really can't find an answer, then post specific topics, you're more likely to get helpful responses. And give more detail -- is this Flying V a new build or an existing guitar? What kind of bridge does it have now? I was under the impression that Jazzmasters use the same type of neck pocket and depth as other Fenders, but I could be wrong --but the depth of the neck pocket all depends on the heel of the neck you're using. That's why it helps to give more detail about what you're trying to do. You´re right, sorry. I´m kinda new in this forum stuff, but the more i get here the more i see that you guys are serious, and always willing to really help, so i guess a topic so vague like this is no use. On top of that, my english is not too good, and i have a har time expressing myself in the right way when it comes to technical chat... So let me resume this. - Let´s forget about the explorer drawing and stuff, it took nothing but a little search on the forum for me to find them. -The jazzmaster matter.... This is a guitar that i´m building, and i plan to use a standard fender neck. But my question was regarding the JM´s bridge, wich i think is a little taller than the strat type bridge, and with the neck being the same as the strat, i supposed that this would result in a less deep neck pocket. -The TOM matter.... you got it right, that wasn´t what i was trying to ask xD Let´s see if my english allows me to say it right... If i have a neck pocket 10 centimeters long, and in the bridge side i have it in a deepness, let´s say, 15 mm... at the other end (10 cms away) and according to the angle), what deepness it should have? Please forgive me for bringing this up again, but it´s really hard for me to seriously come up with this myself, i´m not an experienced builder, and, actually, this forum helps me a lot, but when it comes, for example, to this inches/milimeters stuff, it gets really complicated for me.... Sorry again, and thanks!!!
  3. Oh, damn, i´m sorry about that, i didn´t know.... EDITED http://photobucket.com/albums/e171/luckis/...smartinelli.jpg Still too big, thanks for removing the extra ones.
  4. Hi everyone! Well, I got three question, for one topic. 1) I know it has been talk a LOT, but... could anyone give me the measures in mm of the deepness of an standard angled neck pocket? I need to fit a TOM in a Flying V. Basically, what i need to know is the angle in this way: How many milimeters it goes down for each 10 centimeters? I hope this makes any sense, my english is not so helpful 2) What is the deepness en the Jazzmaster´s neck pocket? (In mm, if youcan ) 3) Anyone have ESP explorer blueprints, sketches, or something like that? (it is the guitar used by james hetfield in the 90´s) Thanks already, links and info will be appreciated. I know maybe someone already posted all this info, but in these days i barely have the time to review the forum... See ya, and thanks!
  5. Hi!!! Well, i haven`t posted here in a while, so here it goes. This is my fourth homemade bass to the date, i´ll post the pictures and if anyone is interested i´ll post more data on it really soon! http://photobucket.com/albums/e171/luckis/...rtinelli_00.jpg See ya!!!
  6. Thanx araz. I just have a question... ... That´s it? You do the neck pocket and instead of bolts you glue it and that´s it? That´s how gibson does it? Sorry, i really have no idea about this procedure, any help will do fine. Thanks again!
  7. Umm... hi everybody, i was wondering if you could help me with a little problem... I´m making a Flying V guitar, this is not m first project, before this one i´ve made some guitars and basses. But all of them had bolt-on necks... and i wanted to try a set neck for this one, you know, to keep on learning stuff The point is that i have no idea how to do it, i´ve never seen how it´s done, so... if any of you know some site or tutorial or something that contains information (at least a couple of pictures) that would really help me a lot... Thanks already, I will try to post some pictures of the work soon if anyone is interested! See ya PD: I´m from argentina, so sorry for mi english
  8. Well, if them boys judge the gotm by design and uniqueness, yours is by now a truly winner man. The only peg i can see is the peghead... it would´ve been coolest with some more radical design I love it, your work is awesome!!! See ya
  9. S´pose it´s cause of that design, black, and a little sharp... Man, strip that peghead too, to my taste it doesn´t match with the stripped body
  10. Hey all of ya, i`m from argentina and recently bought from a friend (who had it laying around in pieces) a Hondo II Les Paul. It`s black and the bindings and all... it`s kinda like a black beauty, and very nice, actually. I tried to look un for info on this guitar on the web but all i get are reviews and stuff like that, no substancial info... I also heard that most of them had Dimarzio pickups??? Pickups on this one are quite good looking (haven´t heared them yet) but they don`t say "dimarzio" anywehere... Question is... can anyone of you more-experienced people tell me something about this thingie, and perhaps help me find out the model, year of making, etc...? Another thing... I´m a leftie, and the guitar`s not so i was planning on modifying it for a letfie... cut a horn... another cavity... Thanks already!!!!!
  11. HHAHAHAHA! Thank you very very much shadow, it makes me feel very good to see that you and the others like my work that much, considering it´s homemade now rise... hahaha, just kidding But, why is that of the zero fret? i didn`t get it, headless are supposed to have one or something? Thanks again!!
  12. There, i´ve uploaded the photo, check the album!!
  13. beetlejuice?? hahaha! i don´t have a clue why, but you may be right... I´ll upload a pic of the head soon, meantimes i tell you... Common headless basses have like a stop tailpiece over there. I made one for this bass but from wood, you´ll see it in the pic. see ya and thanks a lot! Is encouraging that you guys like my job, thanx!!!
  14. Yeah, I think I forgot to say that was one of the main reasons for it. It`s hard enough to get good right-handed instruments around here, can you imagine for us lefties how it is????????
  15. HAHAHAHAHA! Forgot to mention... i`m a leftie We rule!!!! Thanks guys!
