  1. Thanks for all of your answers this has been a great help. Regards,Robert
  2. Question, yesterday while doing some internet research I came across an acoustic guitar where the luthier had used plain wood for the back & sides and then laminated high figured veneer on top. Why is it more luthiers do not use this method.? as to me this looks like a good way of using a limited resource. Regards,Robert
  3. G'Day Tazer, I note some excellent replys to your post. Something I would really think about if you want to build Acoustic guitars is doing a luthier building course. Regards,Robert
  4. G'Day Vinny, Thank you for the welcome it is good to be part of this forum I have been lurking here for a long time and thought it was time to contribute to this great forum. I am pleased to hear that you checked out my wood galllery, I do not get the time to change the photos often as this is only a small section of what I have available. I hope you checked out my guitar gallery this will give you and idea of some of the guitars built from tonewoods that I supplied. I spoke by e-mail yesterday with Brian that runs this forum and within the next couple of weeks I will have a banner on this site and hopefully some of the members might be interested in some of the exotic woods from Tasmania that I have available. As for years now I have been selling to some of the large tonewood supply shops in the states and Europe and I have now decided to sell direct to luthiers at a lower cost than they are paying now. I note you are in New York, I spent 6 days there many years ago doing the tourist thing before travling up to Canada to work. Best regards,Robert
  5. Thank you for your reply woodenspoke, I know what you are saying, but is there a minimum thickness that the soundboard could be too thin.? Regards, Robert
  6. Looking good for a first time builder, excellent work. Regards,Robert
  7. I note that you do not say what species of Oak that you are thinking of using, as a lot of timbers are called oak but are not really oak species. Here in Tasmania Island State of Australia, the Eucalyptus species are marketed as Tasmania Oak and are suitable for Electric and Acoustic guitars. Regards,Robert
  8. Hi to all members, I am new to this forum, I am hoping that some of the members can help with a question as I note a lot of luthiers I have contact with all have a different way of doing things. What is the minimum thickness recommended for soundboards. Regards, Robert Visit My Website
