Hi all,
I am new here, but have used this site's materials for several luthery projects in the past. Great wealth of information! Anyways, I am a bit of an amateur luthier and I am looking to begin a dream guitar project that I have been wanting to undertake for years now. The only problem is that I need help.
My plan is to take the guitar body designs of 2 famous guitars and meld them into one unique, personalized body. For the base shape, I want to use a Washburn DIME Stealth (Dime 3 ST) model guitar. The only problem here is that I need accurate dimensions. The guitar was discontinued and no longer manufactured since Darrell's tragic death (RIP) in 2004. This makes finding accurate measurements extremely tough. Furthermore, these guitars are insanely hard to come by and are now highly expensive.
The project that I am seeking to undertake will produce a completely unique body design and will be made by me, for me only. I will not be publicizing or selling this project. This is something that I have been wanting to do since 2004 and is extremely special to me.
Therefore, I am looking for any information on the measurements of this guitar! So far, I have not been able to find any company that makes templates for it or has any dimensions/measurements. If anyone here owns one or knows where I can find information on them please let me know. I even caled washburn about this, but the service rep told me "they had no spec sheets" like the ones I wanted (...yeah right! Haha).
I am so serious about this project that I have contemplated buying a cheap Dean ML Dime tribute and using it as a template, but I require a template of the Stealth model that Washburn made specifically due to its sharp pointed angles. The MLs have rounded corners that will not work with the body style I want to create, therefore, making the entire thing out of whack.
Anyways, sorry for the long post. If anyone here could help me I would be much appreciated! Please email me at aksparks04@gmail.com
