  1. I was pretty sure I was wrong about the 90th, but are you sure the 10th was basswood? I was under the impression that it was Alder. Eeeeeeh....could be wrong. Probably am.
  2. Let the Mods mod. All Jem's, with the exception of the VWH, VSBL, 10th and I believe the 90th, are basswood. All Jems are bolt on necks. A little more research there, Albert!
  3. "Melt" isn't really what poly's do. What you are really doing is spraying tac coats and they shouldn't be too thick. You have the right time-frame between coats, but you should start with a thin coat, wait, thin coat, wait and thick coat. Let dry for about 36 hours and do it all over again. With rattle-cans, you should wait until after your second go-around before starting to knock down high spots. I would suggest starting with 1000 before round 3 and work your way finer between rounds. 5 rounds should do it for a thick application and then you should be near you final destination of 2000. After that, buffing will be next.
  4. Unless your pickups a 4 wire, the out-of-phase option is out.
  5. Cellulose = Botany. Celluloid = Chemistry. Just thought I would pick nits
  6. Testimonial! I have a body that Jim did sitting right here in front of me. This body is near perfect. Let it be known when Jim says rough...it means rough. You will need to do ALL the finish work on these bodies. Be prepared to take some time to get them ready to finish. But I must say that you will be very pleased with his product.
  7. Not ever having airbrushed before, I would guess the more layers of paint used, the more stippled it will be. Also, I'm guessing you have sealed the wood before painting. The only thing I can suggest is to use many coats of clear before you even start wet sanding or polishing. Get a real good thick build up and go from there. If the design turned out fine, then a thick coat of clear seems to me, to be the answer.
  8. BINGO!! I have a bunch of the StewMac ferrules and they are too big. Jeremy, would you have any of these laying around?
  9. She knows....not all that happy I started the project. Until she saw these pics. It will be a slow go as the body needs a lot of detail work that will need to be done before she goes off to finish (LGM). The fabric is a T-Shirt that will be here shortly. Jeremy has told me that cotton isn't the best, but it can be done. Something to do with the clear-coat process taking longer. Neck will be done before x-mas. Body after. I'll keep you guys updated as it goes along. Violetchrome hardware is my first choice, but will probably go with Cosmo.
  10. Still looking for these. Also need Ibanez Edge/LoPro trem stud inserts (that press into the body).
  11. The pics below are preliminary. Neck is on it's way to LGM for refret and neon dot inlay to match the body. Neck has a Maple fretboard. Headstock will have the same fabric. Body is Ash. Version 1 Version 2 Back(Will be more the blue in the fabric...if possible.) Comments are welcome!!!
  12. Why not use a clear pickguard and analy neat wireing?
  13. If anyone has a set of these they want to unload, give me a shout.
  14. Nice self-portrait. And, for what it's worth, I'm sure that the owners of this "half-rate" website will NOT loose any sleep over your departure. And it's "Hot-linking pics IS not allowed" you 4th grade dropout.
  15. No need to state the obvious. Again, no need to state the obvious. Now...that's not true. 5 year olds are making just as much fun of you as the 30 year olds.
  16. Idiot...You're in a PUBLIC forum. What the hell did you expect? You don't take hints very well, do you? Too...many...run-on...sentences! Freedom of speech, BABY! Don't like it? Tough! And who do you think started the spawn? The most amazing thing through reading this thread is that you STILL don't get it. Post all the pics of beautiful guitars you want. We don't care. If they don't comform to the rules of this community, they will be deleted. Kevin could not have made that any more clear. Hell, my cat even understands this rule. If you persist to snub your nose at the rules of the community, you will not be allowed to participate in the community. Simple, huh? Or do you need a Dick & Jane book to understand better. Fine, here we go: ASM posts big pics. Big pics against the rules. ASM warned of trouble if they post big pics again. ASM gets banned from community. The End.
  17. Bumping to the top. I will consider offers and trades. Looking for: Cosmo neck hardware. Clear Jem pick guard. Cavity plates. Let's deal!!!!
  18. I bought this neck on a whim and can't use it. It has been verified that it came of an Ibanez EX-3700. The scarf joint has a repair to it that looks solid, but since I can not install it to test its stability, I can not guarantee it. Specs: 24 frets with some play wear. Maple fret board that is clean. Cream binding. Black dot inlay and side markers. This neck might be able to be used on a Jackson/Charvel type body as the heel is very similar to those brands. Asking $75 and that will include shipping in the lower 48 states. Those of you across the pond will need to get with me about shipping, but I have no problem selling to you. Pics upon request.
  19. Erik, I'm gonna add a couple things that might help. First, I'm nowhere near a sound egineer or acoustical scientist. But I have a couple ideas for you. Your tests shoud use the most common "solid" wood used for guitar bodies as your base model. That would be Basswood. You will need to use actual bodies in your tests to get accurate information. Along the lines of what Frank described about vibration transference, different body shapes and routings will yield different results as they will vary the amount of wood to transfer vibration. I think you will need only a few bodies, but you will need these bodies for each wood you test. 1. Double Cutaway - Strat Style - Top Route. 2. Double Cutaway - Strat Style - Back Route. 3. Single Cutaway - LP Style. 4. Single Cutaway - PRS Style. You may need to take into consideration that some bodies have exotic tops and that depending in thickness of these tops, results will vary. It may be easier to mount a tuning fork into the body, strike the tuning fork and then measure the rate of tonal decay from the fork. You will be able to measure the decay over a wide range of tones depending on the tuning fork used. Sorry, forgot one thing. The tuning fork will need to be mounted in the EXACT center of the body for accurate measurement.
  20. In no order: George Lynch Nuno Bettencourt Paul Gilbert Mart Friedman Chris Brooks Alex Lifeson Tony McAlpine Pete Townsend Jason Becker Steve Vai
  21. Ummmm....did you look at the headstock?
  22. Details: 1. Custom faux purple-foil finish w/matching headstock and white logo. 2. Clearcoat is about an 8 out of 10. Not bad, but not pro either. 3. Maple fretboard that is very, very clean. 4. White SuperDistortion and an unknown single (Bammbamm may know what it is). 5. 3-way blade switch. 6. Edge is in 6 condition with one post that will need to be replaced. 7. Neon Green dimarzio strap (short). 8. Custom purple anodized seald tuners. 9. Missing trem cavity plate. 10. NO CASE. Hi-Res pics available to serious buyers. I'll double check, but the body does not have any major damage. It may have a tick or two, but I'll check it when I get home and update this post. $375 + shipping in the lower 48 states. If you would like to send me a shipping case, I'll eat the shipping to you from me. PS. I will ship to the UK and Europe. It's gonna cost a butload to the buyer, but I'll do it. Payments will need to be in the form of a Bank Cheque in USD funds only. PSS. I will trade this for a Jem DNA ONLY. Number doesn't matter and neither does the swirl.
  23. I have 2 white humbuckers. Single conductor w/ground wire. They are brand new and never used. You can have them for $20 + postage from the US (48239). EMS quoted $30 to Great Britain.
  24. FYI...this guy does some excellent work. I bought a JPM body from him and it was perfect. Still waiting on the cavity cover from LGM...though.
