  1. Thanks for the reply Ripthorn. First point - I am interested in designing a preamp because I like to learn about stuff and guitar electronics is something I know very little about. However one thing I have noticed is there is an awful lot of inconsistency and misunderstanding on the subject just about everywhere. Hence my request for some facts on the pickups. I would love to look at your Alembic clone, if for no other reason that one of my fave bass players is Phil Lesh who, IIRR, used Alembic electronics. Could you let me know where I can find the schematics? I am happy with solid state construction and i have a reasonably good workshop with a scope as my other hobby is making radios. The voltages that tubes (or valves as we say over here) are a bit high for me to be confident with so until I learn a bit more I shall stay solid state. Regards, Steve
  2. Hi everyone, I have just bought a new Fender Jazz bass guitar with passive pickups. I am interested in designing and building a pre-amp for the bass and possibly rewiring the pickups so I can bi-amp it (i.e have one pre/power amp/speaker per pickup). I will probably use a class T PA design from one of the kits produced by www.41hz.com and homebrew some transmission line loudspeakers. Anyway the question I have is can anyone point me at a reference for the frequency response curves/impedance/output voltage for the standard Fender Jazz pickups. Regards, Steve
