  1. Oh my lord how some things never change, and some do.... Its been a LONG time since I signed in, and the Litch thing is still being talked about. Its also nice to see some familliar names!!!
  2. Just a quick FYI to anyone close to Chicago, Jordan will be doing an in store apperance at Sam Ash in Burbank this Friday August 10th....met Mike Portony there about 3 years ago....waiting for John to come in.
  3. One word...Amazing. The first attempt at building a guitar was a JPM inspired ibanez, and its still in my arsenal.
  4. Aiguitars on evilbay will make you a pickguard with any pickup config, or color he has in stock, and his product is very high quality. As far as your pickups, its more of a personal chioce....not to mention, your amp. Id dosent matter what kind of pickups you have in a guitar, you wont get the signature Death sound if you playin through a old fender twin. Not trying to sound like your dad, but before a moderater says anything, you need to watch your chioce of words a little better. That kind of stuff is frowned upon here. With that said...welcome to the forum
  5. I love getting guitars in with floating bridges, and the guy changed his own strings, and upped the guage like 4 steps. "Man I think the bridge is broken" Purchased many a guitar from a newb that should be playing a hard tail or TOM, but had to have a wammy bar to wank on.....and then they are tired of bringing it back to me for a free readjustment
  6. I was told the same thing ericbojerik said...if it still smells like paint, its not dry enough, and if it dosent, use your fingernail. I painted a scrap piece along with the guitar so I had a rough idea, and a fingernail test piece so I didnt wreck the finish on my guitar.
  7. Amen to that....what a cool idea. Strap a smoke machine to yer back, and run a tube into the back of the guitar, then jam out!!! SMOKIN
  8. Why not just buy anodized aluminum in the color you want, instead of painting it. Less time painting means more time building. Just a thought
  9. You have to go in and make a friend with someone that works there. I have 3 guys at 3 different stores that would bend over backwards for me, and all I do is once in a while, take them out to lunch, and talk about gear. I also have them pull any guitars that need work aside for me to look at for future purchasing. Usually, they have to sell it at a discount because its damaged. Bought a 99 Ibanez s7420 with a finish chip for 200 bucks....thats 1100 dollars less than list with Org hang tags. Was just sitting on the wall way to long, and my bud called me up and told me to make an offer....so I did, and now its hanging on my wall. Just my two cents.
  10. Man I forgot about this thread....got the pedal back, and I can get the Krankenstien tone out of it with the drive at 1/2 way. Think Damageplan's "New found Power". The tone controls are MUCH more sensitive, and while dialing in the sound, you CAN go to far. Still a bit noisy, but nowhere near where it was. Not quite the sound I was looking for, but for the cash, Id say it was worth it. Tested it with a Peavey Butcher on the low gain side, and a flat EQ, through a 4X12 with Celestions.
  11. I have a minor problem with some maple I have been siting on fo a while. While Im not to concerned with this piece in particular, I AM worried about the rest of my stash. I keep my wood upsstairs in my house along with all the rest of my gear, temp/humidity controlled. I brought a piece of maple out to my garage, and left it sit to adjust on my workbench. It sat for a couple of days when it started to check right down the middle. It was at less than 6% moisture content when I first got it about a year ago, and still is acording to my meter. The waether has been fairly stable he whole time it was in there. Did I do something wrong, or should I chalk it up to a bad piece? Like I said Im more concerned with the bookmatched figured maple top I have sitting upstairs.
  12. I did a laminated neck with purpleheart and maple, and didnt notice any issues, but with this one I want to know for sure....my budget dosent allow another piece of wood like this for a while, and its going on the face of the guitar.
  13. Im planning on building a chambered body with a paduk/ quilted maple top, and I was told to be careful when sanding because the dust from the paduk can embedd into the maple, and discolor it. First off..is that true, and if so, how do I go about sanding the top then? The malpe wil run the center 4 inches. I have never heard of that before now.
  14. Sounds good, Just the kind of stuf I was lookin for. Thanks to all
  15. I really dont have any real reasons for doing it other than experimentation, and a lighter guitar. I could be building a real nightmare for feedback....wont know till its done. I actually first thought about it when I went to my local hardwood supplier, and he didnt have anything as thick as I was looking for. I bought 2 pieces that were 1.75 thick together, and now I have the option of doing it.
  16. I was thinking about a recessed TOM with string thru ferruls, so Im probably gonna keep the whole center section just for strength. I just wanted to make sure there are no steadfast rules concerning edge width, or chambered area. I know a semi-hollowbody dosent have to have f-holes, just wanted to mention this guitar wont. Thats one of the decisions that have been made for sure. The only other sure things are scale length, wood selection, and general body shape. As much as I love my ES330, I probably wouldnt ever build a full hollowbody for myself. I feel like I have to be gentile with that one, and I can get rowdy while playing.
  17. Just out of curiousity, when doing a semi-hollow(no f holes) is there a "correct" way of doing it? How much of an edge should be left to glue on? 2 big chambers, or multiple smaller chambers? Can/should you chamber under the path of the strings, or leave as much wood there for strength/stability? Anything else I am missing? Im in the planning stages, so no wood has even been cut,its just sitting there calling my name. Thanx
  18. Im still torn on this one...I guess Ill have to see one in person, and play it. Its an Ibanez "Warrior" (probably Indonesian or Korean) with neck thru and reverse headstock. For the price, I think I would rather have a RG565. I was all hot and bothered to try the Ibanez RG neck thru w reverse headstock made for Sam Ash Music, but when I played it.....I was less than impressed. I hope its not the same senario.
  19. Dye that blue just for kicks (custom options include swiming pool cavity route) and inlay a shark or something. Man Im warped...
  20. Would it look OK? Thats a matter of opinion. Mine might be a bit biased, just look at my name.... As far as the trem, you could fill the trem cavity the same way, and route it for the trem you have. If your putting a cap on it anyways, you wont see the area your filling. I dont have a planing machine, but my local hardwood supplier does. If I need something like that done, I just go there and have them do it. I am now on a first name basis with them by now, and every once in a while I go in there with a Pizza as a thank you....works out well for all of us.
  21. Make a template of the area you want to fill, and glue in some wood, rather than route the whole area out and glue. I had a RG with a HSH config that I filled the single coil with a piece of basswood, worked fine. Plus Dennis is right, if the area is to be covered by a pickguard, why fill it in the first place? Seems like a lot of work just to cover it up.
  22. Rocksolidamps.com Click on the sound bytes section, and you can hear a bunch of recordings for the amps they have listed....quite a few. Thats where I heard the Meteoro amps. Obvoiusly, mic placement, and type of mics used will yield different results, but it will give you an idea
  23. There is a full tutorial on doing a swirl paintjob. Projectguitar.com Somewhere recently, there is also a post with a video of a swirl job being performed.
  24. If you want to make money in the vintage guitar market, buy one, and put it under your bed for 20 years or so. When you "restore" a vintage guitar, it makes it worth less than when you started, unless your talking about some real hopeless causes...and then usually, unless your name is Dan Erlewine, you may still take a hit on it. I have a 1968 ES330TDC that goes up in value just sitting under my bed, untill my kid finds it and does his best Pete Townsend impression. She only comes out on special occasions.
