  1. Cool "mattia", I found a telecaster bridge off ebay. This bridge has space to accomodate a humbucker, so i bought it. By the way, i already started my guitar. Here's what i have done: -Shaped the entire body plus top (except for the neck pocket) -cut out the neck (i still have to contour it) plus headstock -I finished the wiring of the guitar... I don't know how to make the channel for the u-channel trussrod, since i don't have a router.... Do you guys know of any way i could do it?? Peace -Danny
  2. Hi, I'm finishing up a Les Paul I started a few months ago (with a topic in the guitar/bass section) and I have questions about wiring the pickups. I bought 2 Daewon humbuckers off ebay (one bridge one neck). They both have two leads: One bare and one white. How do you know which (bare or white) is the "hot" wire?? Thanks -Danny
  3. Thanks Billy Bones, Btw guys, Hardtail bridges are fender bridgers by my understanding, but they are about $20 more expensive than TOM's at least on StewMac. Do you guys think that ebay would be reliable to buy a bridge? Thanks guys -Daniel
  4. hey everyone, it's been a while, but i' m back and I have a new idea for my guitar. I could make my guitar simpler by eliminating the neck angle completely. Using a fender style bridge would do the trick right? Its been a while, thanks again -Danny
  5. Well I haven't been able to work on my project for the past few days, and I probably wont be able to untill the end of August since im going to be away on vacation. Like I mentioned earlier, I have made a Body template with all the correct measurments etc.. and Ive made a drawing of most of the neck (until the joint), but I still dont know how to design my bolt on neck...
  6. I have enough money to buy wood, guitar parts/hardware, and neccessary tools for the job (by tools i mean bits, and glue, clamps, etc. since i have access to the power tools)
  7. Hey thanks a lot guys, Drak, you are completely right. I am getting a little worked up here, jumping from idea to idea. Right now i should be formulating my plan and seeing how that will work together. I havent been that active in looking for tools for the neck, this shows that I am obviously a while away from making my neck. (This brings another question: should I make a neck? I want to make one, but...) Right now I should be looking at the project a bit more realistically, step by step, instead of just at whati want my finished piece to look like. Rich, I'm sorry for being such an agony on with the pm's (Personal messages...not PMS! ). Like I said, im a bit worked up. You guys are all being REALLY supportive and I thank you guys for that. How ever, I'm a bit nervous/scared about starting my project, so I think I need time to focus, and plan. On the other hand... I just made my body template today, out of some sort of acrylic blank I have gone to a local wood shop, but it was really a lumbar yard, so the only piece of mahogany that they had was a 4x6 foot, piece of plywood. Also, that was the nearest wood shop to my house (D.C.) which was a 20 minute drive.. Thanks a lot guys! -Daniel
  8. Ok, so now that i have changed my plans, i have another question: How thick should the tennon of a bolt on neck be?? Im assuming something like 1 inch (perhaps a little bigger). Should i make it as wide as the freboard, and as long as the fretboard?
  9. What wood would the veneer be? Do you think that a Maple veneer would make the tone more LP-ish?
  10. Nice idea!! another positive side to the veneer is that without it, you would need a super long drill bit that reaches from the switch to the jack hole, right?? Where would you get such a bit? Greg do you think you would add the veneer for a first timer? Or would you stick to the one piece body?
  11. Thanks very much guys You guys are very supportive. just to make sure, 1 3/4" thickness for the body is the usual thickness for a flat LP? Im going to order my wood soon i think... Ill tell you how it goes when i start a topic in the "in progress section"
  12. Youre right Greg, I am thinking seriously about making a simpler LP beacause of your and the other guys' recomendations Im thinking about this: -Material finish, which will hide slight imperfections -Flat top, so that i dont have to carve that much, and i have to make a smaller neck ange -No binding, because of the material finish -Bolt-on neck, (this one is just an idea...) Would this make my project easier? My LP would now be LP shaped, but would incorporate tele style specs... I would still like to build this guitar with a headstock angle.
  13. Greg, Do you think that a Tele would be an easier project than a LP because it is not carved top? Maybe a Flat top LP would be an easier first timer tyhan a carved top... I would, however, like to build this guitar from scratch.
  14. Thanks Greg, Do you know if I should rout the channel deep enough for the truss rod and a wooden strip (to fit above the rod)? Or is there no need to do that? -Daniel
  15. So, do you guys know what I should do about my truss rod? (If you haven't seen my question, read back a few posts) -Daniel
  16. No offence taken, Pete, I can accept criticism. You have a point, but if you read a bit further back, you would see that we already dimissed the idea of having to make my own fret board (since I can get one off Stewmac), and I have already decided not to make a Supreme but a Custom instead. I suppose you're right when you say that a LP isn't a recomended 1st time project, but I think that I would like to try it. I will take what you said into consideration. Thanks for the comment -Daniel
  17. I would like to build a standard LP, at least now, beacause of the discussion about the supreme , but my plans are for a custom, so I think I'll go with that. They are similar right? Oh yeah, can you guys look a couple posts back to my questions about the truss rod? Thanks -Daniel
  18. Yep, Setch is correct on that topic, sorry for not explaining fully, here's the link. -Daniel
  19. Thanks a lot for your responses about the pickups, guys! It's a lot help! On a different note, I talked to my project advisor (as I mentioned earlier this guitar is for a project), and I told him my plans for the guitar. I told him that I wanted to use a u-channel truss rod. I have searched this question in the forums, but I didn't find an answer: If I use the Martin style adjustable rod from Stewmac, do I need and anchor in the heel-end of the rod?, and will a gibson Hex nut fit on the end, or do I just adjust it with an allen wrench?. AND, do I need a wooden strip, or fillament, like Secth used when covering up the truss rod (can I simply route a channel, put the rod in, cover with fretboard?) Your feedback will be kindly accepted -Daniel
  20. Just so I can get an idea of what LP's usually have...?
  21. Ok, that sounds good But what pickups do you guys think the typical LP would have? (I think that I want that kind of look, and I'll base my tone prefferences a bit on that)... -Daniel
