  1. Hey I forgot to mention, when I used oil paint, I used a medium called liquin (fine detail), it adds a slight warm color but speeds drying time dramatically. and yes, I always drew (lightly) with pencil over the kilz.
  2. damn, those are nice! Why don't more people mess with that? you can create some awesome designs. I guess its a lot of work to be so accurate?
  3. cool, yeah the puzzle piece one is what i was shooting for. thanks!
  4. I don't know if this has been done before, but I thought it might be cool to have either two different kinds of wood, or two different stains on the same type of wood, and have thin pieces creating a dark/light pattern for the body of a guitar. here is a little photoshop of what I was thinking about. Its not the best example, but theres redder and yellower pieces. Maybe the direction of the grain could be switched on the odd pieces to make more contrast in stripes? I don't have a clue how to build a guitar, I just thought I would throw this idea at you guys! If it has been done before, can someone show me some examples? and If you think this is cool, and decide to make a guitar like this, please let me see the final result!!
  5. I'm brand new to this forum, but I've painted a couple of my guitars and I did the same thing everytime. They were all fairly cheap guitars so I just sanded down the paint, taped off unwanted areas, primed it with can of spray Kilz, and used artist oils to paint them. as for preserving them, I had some bad experiences. Make sure whatever you get is compatible with the paint you are using. It may not be the best option for you, but I put shelac over my paint jobs. It's probably not the best thing to use, but I was in a rush and wanted to put my guitar back together. Here is a link to the guitars I painted. -Matt
  6. hey everyone, Im brand new to this site, and very new at guitar modification. I,m an artist and decided to paint one of my guitars, which led to me painting another and another, and when I get some more time and money, I'm sure I'll be painting another Here is the latest one I painted, I also reshaped the body. It used to be a Bronze series Warlock, all black. Now its a, a groovemaster! I also put in different pickups, mainly for looks, they came off a friends Epiphone. Here is one I painted about 4 months ago, I sanded down a bit of wood to try and compensate for the additional paint thickness. I also carved in some mushrooms in the headstock and bridge along with my initials. I call this one "my sweet mushroom woman". It's a Yamaha. and here is a Strat style Samic I painted last winter. I only recently got into reading about guitar modifications, and I'm very interested, I hope to get some money together and start buying used guitars, stripping them, giving them some cool paint, and moding them up! Thanks for looking! -Matt
