  1. I am interested in some advice on this as well. I just put together a custom wramoth setup, with a Fishman Wilkinson Piezo tremolo bridge, Graphtec Nut (slots are angled in line to the tuners across the nut), 13 degree angled neck and Sperzel Locking tuners. The strings will not stay in tune for anything. I am not sure what is causing it. Thanks!
  2. Oh yeah.. I am real familar with Rockin Robin. I will give them a try. Thanks!
  3. Cool. Thanks! Anyone have any suggestions on the West side of town?
  4. I recently got my guitar put together of a Warmoth Body and Neck, but I am having a devil of a time getting the intonation setup and so the strings don't buzz. I just don't have the time to devote to doing this properly myself. So can anyone give some recommendations for a good person to contact in the Houston, texas area to provide this service to my guitar? Of course I want the all important balance of good service at a resonable price! Thanks!
  5. OK, I have made some progress (no pictures posted yet) on "Sable". I pretty much have it all together, and now I am trying to setup the neck and bridge. I am getting some buzz with the strings and I think I am beyond my element here to get it setup like I should. Too many other things going on the devote the time needed to do this properly myself. So, can anyone recommend a good tech (not to expensive, either) in the Houston, Texas area for setting up the neck? The frets don't seem too out of whack to me, by putting a straight edge on them, but what do I know. So not sure if it needs some fret dressing or not. Or if it is juat a matter of adjusting the truss rod, bridge saddle height, etc. So any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  6. I think that's the blue 2 that was on the decal but disappeared next to the black? ← I think some of what you are seeing is the blue '2'. But there is a very, very slight ridge along the bottom left of the 'Custom' logo. I may put a few more clear coats on it to make it go away.
  7. Well, I have made some progress and had some setbacks on my project. Go to My Webpage to see the latest updates. Hopefully, I have finally solved the problems I have been having with the paint finish!!
  8. I have finally been able to do some more work on Sable. Got to MY WEBSITE to see the latest progress. Select Sable from the navigation menu on the left of the site to see the progress.
  9. I have updated the progess of my project on My Webpage. Just click on SABLE in the navigation menu to see the progress so far. Little bit of a learning process with the sanding sealer, so I had to back up and re-do some of the steps. I am now back to the primed stage and after a little bit of sanding, I should be able to start spraying the finish coats.
  10. I have made a little progress on my new guitar. You can see the progess so far by following the link below. Here is a preview pic of the body I received. You can see more pictures along with a description of the process by going HERE. Just click on the SABLE link on the navigation menu along the left of the website to see this project. Thanks!
  11. I was waiting for that question. I asked myself the same Why get a figured wood if your just going to paint over it? Basically because that is the "least expensive" wood options for the carve-top that Warmoth offered. If I could of chose a simple wood for it, I would have (maybe if I had asked them, they probably could). I just liked the shape and look of the guitar. All the woods offered for this body have interesting grains.
  12. Well, though I am not as industrious nor as talented as majority of you on this board, being that I am buying all of my parts pre-made, I will be starting on my second guitar build project this week. My first build I did 3-4 years ago, I bought the parts and had someone else paint it. I just basically assembled it. This time, I will attempt to paint it myself. I am set to receive my parts from Warmoth this Thursday. It is a VIP carved top, hollow alder with flame maple top body. The neck is the Warmoth Pro 25 1/2" scale maple neck with an ebony fret board. I will be using the Seymour Duncan SH-2 Jazz neck humbucker and the SH-4 JB bridge humbucker and a Fishman VS-50P Wilkinson Piezo Tremolo. For the finish, I am going for the satin black look. I will be using the John Deere Blitz Black paint for this. I found out about this paint while reading a bunch of auto paint forums. I have already done a test piece of maple with the paint and it looks like it will be just what I need. I will be posting updates as I go along of the progress with pictures for those interested.
  13. I would not recommend using this company at all! I originally ordered the Abralon Discs from them. I had to email them a week later after I placed the order to ask about shipment, since they sent me no indication of the order shipment, tracking number, etc. I was told then it was on back order. Would have been nice to know that by a simple email from them prior to me having to ask about it a week later. As of Monday, I have since placed the order with Homestead and have canceled my original order with Wood Finishing Supplies via the telephone. I was assured my Payapl refund would be processed. Well, here it is on Friday, 2 emails to them and 1 phone call later (left message) and still no refund. I know they have read at least one of my emails concerning the refund on Tuesday, since I received the read receipt for it. Anyway, I am still trying to get my money back and have filed a complaint with Paypal. Just wanted to let all of you know about their business practices and my experience. I would recommend avoiding these guys!
  14. That is actually who I ordered from a while back. I had to ask them about the status almost a week later to only be told it was on backorder. I canceled with them this morning and ordered from Homestead Finishing. They had the kit in stock. Thanks for the help, guys!
  15. I am trying to order an assortment kit of the Abralon Sanding discs. The few places I have found that I can order them from are out and on backorder, with no known date of them being filled by Mirka. I have not tried this yet (after seraching this board): Abralon Dealer They are closed until Monday, so I can not find out if they have any in stock, but in this age of the internet and instant information, I am being impatient and don't want to wait till Monday. Does anyone have a source I can contact to order these? Thanks!
  16. Does anyone know of a source for producing a couple custom engravings on a black neck plate? I have a custom logo I would like to have engraved into the neck plates along with a serial number. Would the Custom Laser engraving I see around on the internet work on a black neck plate? Thanks!
  17. I am curious about the bolt-on neck pocket masking when you finish the guitar. I understand the need to mask it so that the thickness of the finish coats do not intefere with the fit of the neck to the body. My question is, is it necessary to seal the wood of the pocket? Do I put the pocket masking on first thing after it is prepared for finish? Meaning mask pocket, sanding selaer, primer, paint coat, and clear finish. Or do I put on the sanding sealer and them mask the pocket. Seems like you wouldn't want any unsealed wood even if it is covered with the neck. I should be starting the process of finishing my latest guitar once I get the body and neck from Warmoth in 2-3 weeks.
  18. With the proliferation of the piezo/magnetic setups now, it seems like someone out there would produce such a product. Oh well. Thanks for clearing it up for me.
  19. Does anyone make a Stereo Guitar Wireless system where you do not have to have two seperate transmitters and/or receivers? Now I notice that wireless mics use a balanced input. Does it actually transmit the balanced signals or is that just balanced from the mic to the transmitter and then balanced from the receiver to the pre-amp? If the balanced signal is actually transmitted, my thinking is that you could theoretically use this to send a TRS signal from a stereo jack on the guitar. Trying to figure out the best way to transmit the piezo and magnetic signals with one wireless unit. Or am I totally off my rocker...
  20. Just in case anyone else wants something like this, thought I'd keep you all updated. I finally found where I can order the knobs. Site says they have 37 in stock. Aluminum Knobs They are made by Tyco Electronics/Alcoswitch, aluminum diamond knurl, 3/4" diameter, 5/8" tall, 1/4" shaft, 2 set screws. It ultimately ends up costing the same as the previous place since each knob is $7.52, but they are in stock.
  21. The saga continues... I was able to be directed to APEM by the website in my previous post for aquiring the aluminum knobs I decided on. I settled on the 42003 series aluminum knob. Well, guess what. No one has it in stock that the APEM site search returns. Well, one site can order it with an 8-week delivery time span. Not the best, but I guess I could live with it. By the time I get my body and paint it and all, the wait should work out. BUT... there is a minimum order from These Guys of $30. The 4 knobs I need only come to $8.72. So I would have to spend $30 for some $9 knobs and have to wait for 8-weeks, maybe longer. Oh well, guess I'll look around some more. If anyone else has any insight on something like this, feel free to chime in. Thanks!
  22. Saber, thanks for the idea. Just the nudge in the right direction I needed. I was being too close-minded in my search and only restricting my search to guitar knobs. I decided to check electronic supplier sites, as well. DUH!!! I think I may be able to find something I can live with here: Aluminum Knobs
  23. Thanks for the input!! I had found the hipshot ones, but didn't like the black rings. The Marshall knobs would be cool if they didn't have the black on them. I guess I am being too picky... LOL Anyways, a local shop I tried to order the Ibanez knobs through suggested trying Jackson guitars, since he had seen some on their guitars. But I can not find any way of looking up a part number. Anyone know of a part list for guitar manufacturers other than Ibanez I can peruse through to see if they have some I can order? I guess if worse comes to worse, I can use regular chrome, but its those little details on the hardware not matching that will drive me crazy.
  24. I am intersted to know about the Satin Black finish, as well. I am in the early stages of doing my own with a Satin Black finish. I have purchased some John Deer Blitz Black paint for this after reading about it on some hot rod forums. It is suppose to be a good Satin Black paint, so I am hoping for the best. I did a test on a scrap piece of wood while I am waiting for my guitar body and it turned out alright. Just curious on what you used.
