  1. It shouldn't be a problem . You may want to pencil in a centerline on the top of your radius block as well as a center line ahead of the nut area and behind so to help you keep it true and just take it slow . as long as you have enough material thickness you should be ok.
  2. You might want to take a look at the Alsa corp web site Alas offers a awsome selection of custom paints and Chrome fininshes plus they offer Auto fininshes .... custom colors and clear coats in spray cans look under Killer Cans www.Alsa corp.com It's worth A look Dan
  3. I like the top wood alot but your choice of grain pattern and wood for the back of this build is "really sweet" nice job!
  4. If you are looking for green neon fret markers .. What I did for one of my customers was purchase 1/4 fiber optic rod "end glow rod" it comes in a wide variety of colors and sizes you can match you side dots as well. Its already round just cut to length and pot with a thin vecosity super glue. The end glow rods are what are used for gun sites etc .There are a number of vendors on the web .Fiber Optic Products inc is one I have used in the past. e-bay has venors naturally. I 've been trying to share a photo but not having much sucess.. Check in to it I think you'll be happy!!!!
  5. I have 59 Les Paul build that is still in the planning stages. My cusomer wants that lightly reliced build ( He saw the Gibson 's Billy Gibbons Pearly Gates release and thats simular to what he has in mind) I 've dyed clear coats before to achieve the amber look of the effects of time, sunlight and tobbacco . My question is does anyone have any knowlege of how to achieve the cracking effect in the clear coat that you would notice mostly on the bindings and head stock areas. Any help would be appreciated Thanks Dan
  6. The hvlp systems are designed to cover a large area with as much material as will flow thru the gun at low pressure . I think you're on the mark to go with a quality traditional system . I like the flow and the feel of My old school Binks #7. There are alot of different makes of good quality professional spry guns and For a job the size of a guitar body A good high pressure gun will allow you spray thinner better atomized , more consistant coats over a small area.Unless you plan on painting a bus I would go that route.
  7. Hi , i sent some you some photos I hope that they were some help to you. Dan

  8. I took about 15 minutes yesterday and worked on a rough cut Koa wood fretboard blank to give you an idea the ease and finish with using this product. I'm new to this site and I tried to link the photos form would not allow in that format. any ideas ? I can email them to you if you want. My email in dn02126@aol.com

  9. I HAVE A PRODUCT THAT I STARTED USING IT A FEW YEARS AGO TO RESTORE MY GUN STOCKS. IT IS AN OIL FINISH WITH AN SEALER INCORPORATED. IT IS INTENDED FOR WOOD RESTORATION AND CAN BE APPLIED OVER ALMOST ANY FINISH. I'VE HAD A GREAT DEAL OF SUCESS WITH IT OVER THE YEARS AND I'VE JUST ABOUT GOTTEN AWAY FROM CONVENTIONAL OIL FINISHES ALL TOGETHER. IT WORKS SO WELL THAT I USE IT ON ALL OF MY NECK PROJECTS AND SMALL WORK. IT'S MANUFACTURED BY ARROW WOOD FINISH . IT'S AN OIL BASED FINISH WITH A SEALER AND FILER INCLOSED.. THE STUFF IS "AWSOME" IT DOESN'T TAKE BUT A FEW OZ S TO DO A COMPLETE NECK. (WHAT YOU DO IS YOU APPLY THE SEALER WITH WET DRY SAND PAPER STARTING OUT WITH SAY, 400 GRIT.. AS YOU SAND THE APPLICATION IN IT BEGAINS TO HARDEN THE SANDINGS ACTUALLY FILL ANY SCRATCHES IN THE SURFACE . YOU THEN INCREASE THE FINESS OF THE GRIT SAY 600 TO 800, 1000 ETC. THE FINER THE GRIT MORE GLOSSY THE FINISH. YOU LET IT SIT FOR A FEW HOURS AND RE APPLY TO THE NEXT COAT. YOU TAKE A NYLON SOCK AND YOU CAN POLISH IT TO A HIGH LUSTER.) IT JUST TAKES SOME ELBOW GREASE BUT IF YOUR INTRESTED I CAN POST A FEW PIC'S OF SOME OF MY RESULTS AND I'LL BE HAPPY TO GIVE A POINTERS. ARROW PRODUCTS HAS A WEB SITE AND THEY DO SELL ON LINE . Miracle Pruducts International 1 608 756-0044 if you want to order.. The stuff is marketed toward gun stock refinishing but hey wood is wood! THIS WAS ONE OF MY BEST KEPT SECRETS.. I hope this is a help to you , Dan Wood Finish - Arrow Wood Finish : This is a favorite, Oil finishes are great.....if you have lots of time an patience. ARROW solves that. It takes 90% less work per coat, and 90% less coats to complete the job (compared to any other oil finish). This product can repair any existing finish without stripping (even epoxies and urethanes)....it can restore the appropriate look to any existing finish (from absolutely dull to extremely shiny - or any where in between). But its true glory is in starting from raw (or stained) wood. ARROW will seal the wood making it very weather resistant, while staying flexible which prevents chipping, cracking and "white line" scratches! i.e. : A live (green) Elm was cut down and 2" thick slices cut from it. Each slice was sanded to about 80 grit. Each slice (the same day the tree was cut) was sealed with different sealers - including man various types - according to their directions. One was sealed with ARROW. Of those 20 slices only one lasted longer than 24 hours! They all cracked and fell apart except for the ARROW finished one! That one has lasted over 15 years so far! ARROW fills the wood with a natural filler which will not leave white freckles or dull checkering tools. It is about 10 times as effective as the separately sold fillers. (that's one less expense....and job!) In our demonstrations we cut a scar in a gun stock that will take about 20 minutes of sanding and three days of finishing to repair...and complete the total repair in under 60 seconds. (Quickie Summary: Wipe the finish on, wet sand it in with wet-or-dry paper matched to the roughness of the scratch, buff dry to the touch by hand or cloth. Maximum time to rub dry....5 minutes. ARROW creates the finish YOU want. You control the gloss by the coarseness of the paper you rub it in with. Adjust by adding coats and changing the paper. For instance, using 320 or 400 grit paper gives a matte (non-reflective) finish 500, 600, 800 grits give you a glowing satin finish - 1000 (or higher), cloth or hand rubbing (without the paper) increases the gloss to levels that match urethanes. One bottle will do the work of an entire shelf of other finishes. And the smoothness durability, and beauty are superb. It's not tru oil ...
  10. THE AUTOMOTIVE BASE COAT CLEAR COAT SYSTEMS HAVE SOME VERY QUICK FLASH TIMES . IT ALL DEPENDS ON ALOT OF FACTORS WHICH HARDNER TO USE . HUMIDITY, AIR TEMPERATURE, ETC. THE AUTO CLEAR COAT IS VERY DURABLE . HOWEVER, YOU WILL NEED TO SPRAY YOUR TOP COAT OVER A POLYSTER PRIMER. AND WILL WANT TO USE A SEALER TO SEAL THE GRAIN. YOU ALSO NEED TO BE AWARE THAT THE AUTO CLEAR COATS CONTAIN SOME EXTREMELY NASTY CHEMICALS. SO ASK FOR THE MSDS AND USE OF A PROFESSIONAL RESPIRATOR IS HIGHLY RECOMENDED! ON THE UP SIDE YOU HAVE SOME REALLY GREAT COLORS AND FINISHES AVALIBLE. ENCLOSED IS A LINK TO Alsa Corp THEY HAVE SOME REALLY COOL FINISHES FROM CHROME,TO CANDY AND PEARLS... THEY Also OFFER THE CANDY AND PEARL PAINTS IN SPRAY CANS. CALLED KILLER CANS AND ARE HIGH QUALITY AND A VERY GOOD PRICE.. TAKE A LOOK IF YOUR'RE INTRESTED. www.alsacorp.com good luck Dan
