  1. Hi all, Heres some pics of the backplate I cut for it: err, no my dad isn't gimli. Who's gimli? Hey integra and donald, to answer your questions I used the high-end 3D package Maya, for those of you who dont know it's mainly used for film special effects eg. The Matrix, Lord of the Rings ect. Here Thats what I study at university
  2. Sorry matt but this is gonna be a blue guitar. but good suggestion on the floyd rose, I'm definately thinkin about getting one for it. Alas the guitar dose feel neck heavy but it shouldn't matter when standing up (With the strap on). Anyway as this is my fist guitar and it being such a radical design I was bound not to get it right first time. I think I'll treat this as a prototype and build another one just like it but with the improvements I have learnt whilst building this one. Thanks dudes, oh and Drak I Acctually first drew the design about two years ago and have only just got round to making it this summer!
  3. hey, Dose anyone know if there is anyone with or has tried to make a completely Cnc setup? It seems quite feisable to me, if you had a tool changer and some custom tools for cutting bevels and for sanding I think you could do it. Except for assembley and doing the paint job and other things like that you could automate most of the process. On second thought you could automate assembley and painting processes as well and have a completely computer-controled production line constantly producing guitars. In the future everything will probably be done that way It's possible with today's technology so why not.
  4. Hi, here's the start of the controll cavity. | | There's not much to do now but to paint and assemble it, i'm gonna wait until I go back to uni. to paint it because they've got a spray room with compressors and extractors. I'm planing on assembleing it in a few days time to see how it sounds and plays, then I'll disassemble it to do the paint. I'll try to post a sound file, but I know next to nothing about recording so we'll just have to wait and see if I'm able to.
  5. sorry dudes I hadn't read the rules at the time of posting, and I accidentally double posted cause I was trying to update the previous thread and it created a new one, sorry , ive been trying to rectify the situation and have modified my previous posts.

  10. Heh, Havn't updated this thread in a while, sorry guys I've been doing other things. Any-way heres some progress pics of some work I did this weekend. I should be updating again in about a week so be-sure to check back then. Oh and you can always check-out all my pics Here
  11. Here you go tirapop. click to open in new window. ha, Im getting good at picture posting, eh?
  12. Damn I wish I had the confidence to build a neck, thats just what My Project needs. btw I can't seem to get the first two images? Anyway although Im still a newbe I think that as long as you've got decent wood for the neck you dont need to worry too much about the fretboard and if its been dried for 5 years its not very likely two have many problems with it. Takecare and good luck with your project
  13. Morning all, sorry for not getting my images up yesterday I was having trouble with my server. Anyway here's the images. Heres one with some of the parts in place btw. if the neck looks too inset into the body, don't worry about it i intend to cut it down when i come to finishing it. There are also more images Here I still need to get some electronics/controls/knobs and need to work more on the body but it seems to be taking shape nicely. thanks bye Edit: Oh yeah I dont know much about guitar electronics at the moment so I'd like to know what kind of setup you guys would sugest for this project, thanks.
  14. Thanks Digideus and Metal Matt, its great to gets criticisms off of experienced guys such as yourselves. I totally agree with you on the placement of the electronics and I will revise this when I come to it. As for the edges I think I will reduce the bevels at the pickup section although I still want to keep it quite smooth. Maybe for the next one I’ll make a metal version. To update you on my progress I am currently getting someone to route the neck, pickup and trem cavities, I'll post some pics when it gets back tonight.
