  1. well I understand basic woodworking, but thats about it. I understand all thats required in replacing so I thought I might try to do this myself too.
  2. maybe I'm confused, I don't know tools to well, but wouldn't a router just drill a place for the wires to go on a back routed guitar? sorry if I wasn't clear enough but it's top routed, and I want to cut more space in the wood for the guitar.
  3. I tried the search button, and the main page. I coudln't find it, now if your going to respond atleast answer the question. it's not that complicated.
  4. on my guitar (i don't know the wood) there are 3 spots for single coil pickups. I'm replacing them with humbuckers. what kind of saw would you suggest to cut away the wood so that my new pickups fit.
  5. oh, and all I know is it's a samck. I couldn't find a place to indentify it by serial number and I bought it used. it's a strat knock off and it's serial number is 2081037. if you can find a place to find the model, be my guest.
  6. Ah damn. Sorry about my bad grammer, I don't know what happened, I had good grammer until school ended. Well since no one will explain how to upload a picture on this forum I'll describe it. There are two sides of wires connecting to the switch. On each side there are three spaces to connect. On one side are the three wires from the pickups (hot I think). On the other side there are the tone, wires coming from the pots. The siwtch is a piece of metal with, I guess, wings on the end, so when you are inbetween pickups its touching both spots. My guitar teacher said I could do things like on the second and fourth positions make the humbuckers act as single coils, and in the mid maybe have it phase or something like that. Maybe he was tired, but I don't think I could do this with this switch or most 5 way switches. also, how can I get rid of that broken wire?
  7. I'm replacing them with some humbuckers I got off of ebay, they claimed to be off a 2003 PRS santana SE, I asked my guitar teacher a couple questions about splitting wires and stuff, and he said he didn't know much, but he suggested wiring them as single coil pickups into some of the positions on the switch, and I want to know if I can do it with my switch, it looks to me like I woudln't be able to. which is kind of why I wanted to post the picture. also, while I was looking at all the electonic stuff in the pickgaurd I tore a wire from the switch. I thought I read somewhere that that could mess something up after I go about replacing them. (I still havn't gotton around to getting a pickgaurd) is that true?
  8. I have a few questions, some of them are specificly about my guitar. so I made a bad diagram of my guitar but I can't figure out how to post it. so can someone help me with that. but here are a few of my questions anyways. I have an old sammick guitar I'm cheap I want to replace the pickups but not the switch. are there any sound differences between the swithches i use. also, theres a wire that seems to go nowhere into my body, out of the volume knob. why?(not the one that goes to the jack). the rest of my questions concern the weather or not I can still wire certain things with my switch. and weather or not it uses the same electronic mechnicm stuff as a fender switch or other quality companiees.
  9. hey, I've got a few questions. one, I have a strat body (3 single coli pickup) sammick and I'm replacing 2 humbuckers I got off of ebay. I know I shouldn't do that but they claimed they were off a 2003 santana SE (PRS) and I was wondering if there was anyway to tell. but thats not really my question. I want to keep my 5 way switch and split the wire and put the neck pickup to the neck and mid switch positions, will this work? if it will, I want to hook up the second tone knob to the mid position and spit the wire on the front for the bridge and neck, and create an equalizer effect on the neck pickup. Will it create the equalizer effect. if that doesn't work I'll just split it for the neck and mid. is this all worth it, and more work than it sounds? one last question. I don't know how to remove the pots and knobs to replace the pickgaurd, how do I do that? they're all on a metal foil.
  10. I got my answer from another post, can someone either tell me how to delete this thread or close it. thank you
  11. right now I have a an old samick guitars (before they were greg bennets). it's got a start based body and neck(I don't know what kind of wood), and I was wondering if I could replace the single coils with humbuckers, or lefty pickups. I also opened took off the pickgaurd and took a look at the electronics and I saw all the pickups running into the same circut, or what looked like the same circuts, can anyone explain that to me?
