  1. Ok,, I've been getting emails, etc... wondering if I had any left, and I do, but I originally wasn't going to sell anymore. I've got a Beautiful 1 pc of Mahogany that's already planed, and a very nice 2 pc set of Genuine Mahogany planed. I've decided to sell them since so many of you guys are wanting some and I still need to raise money. I listed them on Ebay, and if you get them both I'll ship them together for a shipping discount. Here they are.. Body Blank F 2 pc. Honduran Mahogany Body Blank I'm giving you guys a chance to get some good stuff. Thanks, Matt Vinson
  2. If you built the neck or bought the neck before you had the bridge, you could have used this to find out what kind of bridge you could have used knowing the string spacing of it. You can read this article I wrote to see how you can figure it out. Now, if you had the bridge before you made the neck, then if you knew what size the nut was going to be, you could have drawn it out so that you had at least the standard 1/8" from the two outer strings to the each edge of the fingerboard. Your problem might not have anything to do with that though, in that like was previously mentioned, your bridge is either out of alignment, or you need to slightly move the neck so that the two outer strings are equal distance away from the edge. If it's still less than 1/8" on each side, then it's not optimal.
  3. I see your taking the same stance as me.. lol As far as the headstock goes, my favorite one right now is Warrior's. Warrior Guitar All are strings are inline, like your wanting, although they have an angled headstock. I like how they space the E, A, D (bass side) tuners normal, and the G, B, E (treble side) tuners farther apart to accommodate this. Also, I played a Warrior guitar two weeks ago and I must say I was very impressed with the action and tone.
  4. I made my own set of feeler guage nut slotting files long ago, and tried tons of other files, but I finally broke down and bought a whole set of Stew Mac ones after being frustrated. If your only going to do a couple of guitars a year, then by all means buy what you can to get the job done. But if you plan on doing repair work, building guitars, and doing setups for people, go ahead and invest in some good ones. I've had my set for almost two years now, and they still are as good as when I bought them after using them week after week. The Stew Mac ones may cost more, but nut files are something you shouldn't skimp on. One word of caution though, the .010" one will break if it binds and you try to force it. Other than that, I've never had a problem.
  5. Glad you liked the wood, I'm probably gonna regret selling it later on, when I run out of what I saved, and can't find it myself.. lol It does have a great tap tone, which is the reason I had bought it and stored it. I actually didn't realise exactly how hard it is to get a one piece genuine mahogany blank nowdays. It looks like in the future, the prices are going to go through the roof even more due to CITES export restrictions. The wide blanks like these are getting rare.
  6. The only time I ever used an angle grinder in guitar building was to carve a guitars top. It works good for that. Maybe they have other uses for it too, but I don't know what they'd be.
  7. Ok guys, the last three body blanks are gone. I planed two more body blanks, and that's all I plan on selling. So if your wanting some good 1 piece Genuine Mahogany Body Blanks, here's your last chance from me. I started the bidding down lower this time. Like I said, I don't want all my good stash to be sold out, so I decided to hold on the the rest of what I have. Here's the two that are up for auction. Body Blank D Body Blank E Thanks, Matt Vinson
  8. Very true.. especially if you can get it for 99 cents.. lol
  9. I've learned long ago it's better to turn down jobs than say you'll do them and not really have the time. Before I used to do computer work on the side, even though I work a full time job, and play in two different bands on the weekends. What I would end up doing is commiting myself to working on too many computers, and I'd have to stay up real late each night and get maybe 4 hours sleep. Even doing that, I had more people come up to me for more work, and more, and more... then I figured out the hard way, I'm only one person, and only have so much time in a day. What would happen ultimately is someone would bring a computer to me, and I'd say, " I will do it, but I won't really be able to get to it, until 4 or 5 days from now." They would then tell me, "ahh, don't worry about it, just get to it when you can." We'll that leads you to believe they do want the job done, but are willing to wait. You can guess what happens next.... Three days later, they are calling me on the phone every 2 hours, asking when I'll be done. Even though I'd explained myself, and make it perfectly clear when the work was going to be done... that obviously went out the window, and now I'm a bad guy for not getting it back in two days time.. lol Now I approach everything from the prospective of, do I have time to get this work done quickly, or is there something else that will prevent me for doing that. If the answer is no, then I just turn down the job. Like I said, it's a whole lot easier saying 'no' now, than saying 'yes' because I want to help the person out, and regret it later. Everyone has their limitations, and it's best to know yours.
  10. For me, I prefer to have just 1 or 2 volumes, 1 tone control, and 1 rotary switch. I like the rotary type switches better and tend to use them when I can. Really it's a matter of what wiring you have going on, as to what the ultimate controls I use. There's a fine line between having enough control over the sound, or having too much control over the sound. Too many adjustments can overcomplicate things, but you do want enough so you can get a wide range of sounds out of your guitar.
  11. Just to let you guys know, the auction will end today. Thanks for your interest!!
  12. I've struggled with the same thing Perry is talking about, so I definitely see his point. Sometimes I catch myself thinking, do I give too much information away freely. I've gave away information that I'll see others on the forum talking to others about, but never mention where they got the idea from. It makes you wonder if it's really worth telling everything you figure out, or discover after building guitar after guitar. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy giving information away, and helping others out, and I should never feel I deserve any credit, because most of the time your not going to get it anyway.. lol If I was going to get into guitar building full time, I would do like Perry and concentrate on building the guitars, and wouldn't come here sharing everything I discovered that might give the competition an edge. Perry's in a different situation that we hobbiest are in, we just do it for the fun of it and it's not business to us. I can completely understand Perry not giving away any good information that could possible be used against his business, that's just common sense. For example, when's the last time you saw Paul Reed Smith on here giving away information to help us out? Never, and you never will either. Why? We'll he doesn't want competition, so why give someone else the tools to compete against his company? Just imagine if Sam Walton when he was alive, gave information to K-Mart, etc. to help their buisness, he wouldn't have ended up with one of the biggest businesses in the world (not saying that's a good thing though.. lol) and the competition could have used his information to get rid of his company before it became so big. Information is everything!!!! So, if Perry feels like giving away some information isn't in the best interest of his business, I respect that.
  13. First off, we need more information than your giving to help. What kind of truss rod are you installing? Stew Mac's Hot Rod? LMI's Dual Action Rod? Regular Fender type single action truss? Then, did you use the proper size bit for the job? Did you use a straight bit, or cove (curved bottom) router bit? Does it sit flush on one end, and not the other? If you can give us more detail, we should be able to help you better. Good luck!
  14. That's cool. So you don't know what width, length, thickness yet right? Get in touch with me when you get ready to buy a neck though.
  15. Thanks Mikhailgtrski, I can't wait to see what you build with this wood. Take pictures ok!! Basically, I had those 3 ready for me to build guitars, except I needed money before I got to use them.. lol So I thought I'd try to sell a few of them, but I do still have quite a bit of the wood although it's in the rough, and hasn't been planed. What size of wood do you need? I'll see what I can do for you. Thanks Again, Matt Vinson
  16. As you all know I've had to sell quite a bit of stuff to raise money, but I never thought I'd be selling my best kept wood. These are some awesome pieces of Genuine Honduran Mahogany. Each of them are ready for guitar building. They've been kiln dried to a moisture content of 7% and have been stored for guitar building purposes. Dimensions are: Width: 15-1/2" Length: 20" Thickness: 1-3/4" Here's the 3 body blanks I'm selling... Body Blank A Body Blank B Body Blank C This is the good stuff, it's light in weight and color, and would make a killer guitar. I can't ship out of the US due to CITES. This wood is getting increasingly harder to get, especially pieces this size, and the prices are going up. Check any other supplier and you'll see. I've started the auction at what I feel is a great price for this wood. I'm going to probably regret selling these, but right now I really have no choice. Thanks everyone for looking, Matt Vinson
  17. I just wanted everyone to know that the videos are already sold. I appreciate everyone who looked. Thanks
  18. Just wanted you guys to know that I am going to auction these videos off. They are great videos, in excellent shape, but right now as you may have already realized, I need to raise some money. So, I must sell them. Here's the link below. Ebay Link Thanks, Matt Vinson
  19. Just wanted everyone to know it's been relisted as of today. Thanks, Matt Vinson
  20. Looking great so far Drak, that's gonna be a very nice guitar when you get done with it.
  21. Someone had told me one time that detergent mixed with warm water if sprayed on the nest will kill them all. I've never tried it though. You might want to research it some more before you try it, because I don't want to be liable for any harm done by the wasp.. lol Good luck on your WMD (wasp mass destruction)!!!
  22. Man, it's totally ironic that this subject was brought back up. I was just putting the final touches on my SandScope© Machine, and have a patent pending right now. Let me further explain what this machine will do for you!!! - Scans sandpaper and determines the actual grit, even if it's been used before!!! - Can alter the sandpaper to whatever grit you want. Example: You have a 100grit sandpaper and want 600 grit, run it through the patent pending SandScope© Machine, and VOILA, you now have the desired grit!! - Will analyze your sandpaper and give you valuable specs on it. Like the following: date it was made, what materials was used to make it, and also, estimated usage time of the sandpaper. I know it's hard to believe guys, but it's coming sooner than you think!!! Robert, you are going to order one right? I did devote 2.3 years of my life trying to solve this thread. disclaimer: The above statements are for entertainment value only, and the SandScope© is not real product, but a product of my imagination. Please don't call or email me about this device, unless of course you believe anything you hear, and have a lot of money. haha
  23. Check out my wood auctions.. lol Only one way to learn is get burned..
  24. We'll looks like the person who used a Buy It Now option isn't going to come through, and hasn't even communicated with me. The stupid thing is I have to wait now 5 more days for the Unpaid Item Dispute to finish, before I can relist it. I even talked to Ebay about it, and all they said is, I could relist it, but they'd advise against it. Simply because the person was the winning bidder, and if I relisted it, then for some chance the winning bidder payed for it, I'd have quite a situation on my hand. It looks like they'd have a way to close it sooner than that though, especially if they failed to even reply to all my emails for 7 days. Long story short, it will be back up next week sometime, just to let you guys know.
