  1. the only guy i know who does "real" guitar repair in my area is http://www.rrgadowguitars.com/ i was just wondering if any of you guys could give an estimate so that i would know if the price he offers would be any good. thanks, jeff
  2. i don't think that height is a big deal for be because the neck is already scalloped. i like it like that. my main concern right now is that in places where the frets seem really worn when i bend a string it "frets out" (bent string gets muted by upper frets). would a crowning cure this problem? i don't think i could set the action any higher than it already is (the high e string is at about 2.5mm at the 12th fret). if a refret is as expensive as you folks make it out to be, it sounds like i'd be better off getting a new neck from warmoth for $250! i'd like to know what you think.
  3. my telecaster's frets are noticeably worn but i don't think i wanna pay $150 for a refret on a $300 guitar just yet. does getting the frets crowned and polished make a noticeable difference? how much would this probably cost? i don't want to do this myself the "project guitar" way because this guitar is too special to me now. thanks in advance. --jeff
  4. everybody please calm down. i will settle this once and for all. taping on wood to judge its tone is nonsence.
  5. you went to a hardware store looking for a non-trem style bridge?!?! hardware stores don't carry guitar bridges.
  6. it may be ugly... ... but i think it's awesome! i was toying with the idea of making a guitar out of a 2 by 4 and a 2 by 10... i don't have many of the required tools to build real guitars either but oh well...
  7. wow, those one-piece mahogany bodies are cheaper than the ones at http://www.warmoth.com
  8. i dont think the nut was ever glued in the first place. what kind of glue should i use?
  9. no, the strings are staying in the nut. it's the force from the bend that's shifting the nut out of the slot.
  10. i have a mexican telecaster and the nut keeps slipping back and forth during bends. i use 11s in standard tuning. i think the nut is some kind of plastic. what is a good way to secure the nut from slipping?
  11. i recently scalloped my board and i LOVE it! in the beginning the the strings cut into my fingertips much more than usual but after a few weeks i developed the lighter touch necessary and now it feels natural. when you think about it, you should only exert enough force to fret the string. Therefore, if it doesn't feel somewhat natural to play a scalloped board, chances are you need to develope a lighter touch. it's the same with bar chords. if it hurts on a scalloped board, you're probably exerting too much pressure than what's necessary and don't realise it. since i scalloped my mexican tele, it has become one of my favorite guitars to play. i sometimes find myself playing it more than my new carvin DC400, which cost me an arm and a leg. playing scalloped fretboards is a great way to develope a lighter touch, not to mention the increased vibrato and higher bends it allows you to do. if you play it enough you will come to love it. what have you got to lose? you will never know for youself unless you try.
  12. quick question: does birdseye scallop well?
  13. i think he could get more $$ for it if he sold the whole thing instead of taking the chop shop approach...
  14. before i spray lacquer the whole neck should is it a good idea to put on sanding sealer first? if so how many coats?
  15. are you serious?!?! i how easily does it scrape off of the frets? can i do it with my fingernail? does fender really keep the finish on the frets? how many spray cotes should i use?
