  1. Considering ordering some templates from guitarbuilding templates.com and was looking for some feedback from people in the uk. Interested in peoples overall experience aswell as total cost (including shipping and duty etc) How long you waited for your templates? aswell as anything else you might think is useful. Cheers guys
  2. Just a quick bump, Still looking but will probably order one on friday if there is no news from anyone. Just to repeat looking for a strat template to buy, or loan for a few days. Location Wallington, Surrey.
  3. Looking for guitar templates, ideally a strat template but anything really as i plan to build several guitars. Cheers
  4. cheers idch, I like the last idea a lot, I might give that a try someday. Still looking for a strat template if anyone is willing to part with one.
  5. cheers for the reply and suggestions, i have as you have suggested made several attempts at building templates and although they are progressively better with each attempt, i wouldn’t be happy or confident to use them on my guitar and would rather invest in properly made templates. However i would say I have learnt a great deal building them and it was nice to put reading into practice, but I dont think I would be happy with the end product and hence i am still hoping.
  6. Hey everyone, I have recently got into guitar building and am still a complete newbie, on my first project, looking for a bit of help. I’m currently building 2 strats and I was just off to buy a strat template from guitarbuidlingtemplates.com but having just spent £450 on parts and tools I was hoping to save a little cash and see if there was anyone on here thinking of selling a strat template, or maybe even better willing to let me borrow one for a day or two to make a workman’s template. I live in Wallington, Surrey willing to pickup and deliver back leave a deposit whatever. I Know its a long shot and a big ask, but I thought it couldn’t hurt to ask. Cheers guys for considering. Iain
  7. cheers guys thats exactly what i was after.
  8. Cheers had a look but still £40-60 a pickup. RIP off britain strikes again. If anyone has any other suggestions or good experience importing pls let me know.
  9. Heya guys did a quick search and could not find any recommendation for places to order pickups in UK. Was looking at a set of fender noiseless but £110 seems a bit steep when you can import them from around £85 or so. Happy to consider other pickups, dont really have much of a clue about pickups so all suggestions are welcome. If people could share their recommendations for retailers uk or otherwise who they have had good experience with that would be great. Cheers Iain
  10. Well, I just got back from having the wood put through the jointer and it did make a big difference compared to how it was. I was sanding with a 16" stew mac fret leveller and I think the problem was mostly just my lack of experience and just really not knowing exactly what I should be aiming for, after I’ve finished building this guitar I think I’m just going to spend some time practicing on scrap before I do the next one. Maybe if I’d stuck at it I would of got it flush. It only took lee 2 minutes to run it through, he didn’t charge me anything and gave me a load of great advice. He also gave me some names of good local timber yards (and who to avoid) and has some nice short pieces of black American walnut which he is checking if he can do a deal on. He is also happy to sort out cutting out the body and neck and thickness everything so I am more than happy with my mornings work. Iain
  11. Just found a cabinet maker down the road said he would do it for £5-£10 some time tommorow. Just so its on the board, the guys name is Lee from Wood and pencil designs in Carshalton, Surrey.
  12. yes its american alder and was £35 before vat and delivery. cant remember how much delivery was as i ordered a load of other stuff from him at the same time.
  13. david dykes, www.luthierssupplies.co.uk. the website really isnt very helpfull but give them a ring and they will sort you out. They know what they are talking about and the guy i spoke to on the phone was very helpful.
  14. will a jointer actually leave it perfectly flush? i was under the impression a jointer would still not be perfect. Fair enough if it does, just dont know. You live and you learn i suppose. Cheers guys.
  15. Okay so today i started building my guitar, and spent the morning hand sanding the two edges to be joined, man i wish i had a jointer. I've got the two pieces to join together (not glued ) with about 0.5mm gap and so i was just wondering if this is fairly decent attempt, or could it be better. pictures can be found here. http://photobucket.com/albums/b2/whats_this123/. First three pics are the side i plan to use as the front.
