Ok, thanks for your reply. I'll assume it's the next fret up in each case, but imagine that as I lower them by filing or tapping, I may send the rattle up a fret until I reach the end(?) I wonder if that is a common phenomenon(?) cheers kameelian

Hi guys, A complete newbie without body/neck cutting facilities, I decided to build my first guitar the relatively 'easy' way, from purchased parts. (Sorry if that's not adventurous enough for some? One day...) I have reached the wonderous point of plugging the finished product in and viola! mostly good. I like a particularly low action anyway, but even so, my bridge adjustment is already pretty high up (so much so that the pickups can't really get close enough to the strings ...maybe my neck is too thick or is leaning too far back...but that's another story). The main problem I have with this slightly odd (low action, high bridge, low pickups) setup is that at the 7th fret on the 4th string and the 8th fret of the 5th string (only) have slight fret rattle but it is fine either side of these frets and everywhere else. If I press a little harder on the fret, it goes away on both strings so I'm assuming it is not too serious(?) Basically, I am wondering from this description whether it stands out to anyone as something glaringly obviousl? Why would a single fret rattle...is the next one simply too high? I polished the frets and they all look pretty good and as far as I can see, there is not a particularly proud fret...I could be wrong. I guess I have been pretty lucky with not having to adjust the truss rod either and, as everything else seems fine, I am a bit reluctant to mess with it at this stage unless absolutely necessary. Anyone got any clues or considered advice? cheers in advance kameelian
