  1. ^ I don't really have any interest in learning to refinish, it was just a means to an end really...My theory now is to either leave it as it is, or save for someone else to do it for me
  2. Right, Basically i've just bought a mexi strat offa ebay nice and cheap (£190) to mod a little bit...It's a blue one, and i'd much prefer one in black but i don't have the funds to send it somewhere and get it done professionally. So, my only option would be to do it myself but i have no idea what types of paint to use, where to buy it from or how much it's likely to cost (and if i can even afford it). I haven't got any type of spray mechanisms and the only painting experience i have is that of the garden shed and some woodstain, but i'm enthusiastic and up for a challenge...But having said that, i don't wanna ruin it and have wasted my money... Any advice would be much appreciated, amd if you could tell me what i'm looking for in the paint department and maybe some possible prices of the easiest thing to get a decent result i'd be very grateful
  3. Right, i have an issue with a guitar i bought 2 or 3 days back...it's a 7 string epiphone les paul and it's great. The only problem is that the strings on it are far too heavy (for me) except for the 7th string which appears not to be heavy enough. So i was thinking about stringing up with rotosound oranges (9, 11, 16, 26w, 36w, 46w) like i would if it were a 6 string, and then put a single bass string in the 7th position, maybe a 60 or 65 My main concern here woud be whether the neck is strong enough to cope with this set-up...has anyone else tried this and how well is it likely to work?
  4. Was on ebay last night and decided that this was far too good to pass up - i'd been looking for a 7 string but also always wanted a les paul, so when i found this it was too good to be true My Baby didn't even know they made them til i found that hehe *feels special*
  5. I'm fairly new to the whole guitar building thing, and am currently deciding which woods to use...now, i've read through many guides as to what different woods should sound like etc but what i think would be really helpful (for myself and others) is if you experts could compile a list of what production makes and models use what woods...that way people like myself can go into a guitar shop and try some out knowing what woods we're playing with
  6. Ok, well in a project i'm about to undertake, i thought it'd be a neat idea to build summat into the guitar... Brontoboost I was thinking of something like that... The problem i'm having is twofold: 1) I want to use push/pull pots as switches and as controls in the circuit, but i'm not sure how or if it's even possible and 2) How would i change the input jack in the diagram, for the lead from the pickups? If it's too complicated to fit in a guitar, maybe it'd be easier to use This instead <Admin edit - picture too large, and violates hot-link policy (see rules for more), changed to URL.>
  7. Right, i've been struggling with my latest idea for this guitar i'm planning to build...I want to build a simple FET booster circuit into it...now i can't be the first person to have thought of this, and was just wondering if it's possible to have a push/pull as its gain pot and use that as a switch for it, or whether i'd need to have a separate switch...or even if it's possible at all i guess Thanks James
  8. I'm in the process of getting the funds together to build a guitar based almost entirely on gene simmons's punisher bass of yesteryear...i saw a thread a while back where someone replicated his axe bass, but i've not heard of this one done yet (although i'm sure it has been)...was just looking for some feedback on whether people thought it a good idea or not...
  9. Hey, i was just wondering what stuff i'd need to be able to get a finish like this Thanks JC
  10. I'm just about to embark on building a guitar based on the ESP F-Series but have come across something i'm uncertain of...i was wondering whether it'd be best to stick my maple top on before or after making the carved top - it's my first carved top and i'm not sure which way round to do it...everything i've read suggests putting it on before, but my common sense tells me to do it after because it's only thin and i may go all the way through - if this is the case, how doi make it fit to the curves when i attatch it after? Thanks JC
  11. looks like ima save up for warmoth then...it's only £173 after tax and stuff - anyone know how they are for quality?
  12. Hey people, i'm about to start a build of a guitar and was wondering where's the best place to buy a neck from...i quite like this one from Warmoth but i'm UK based and the shipping and customs costs would cripple me...is there anywhere in the UK that offers the same range and quality of warmoth? let me know if you've dealt with them and how good the gear is too... Thanks JC
