  1. O.K. Deep breathe and here I go... Soapbarstrat, thanks for the input. I don’t think the “throw it in the trash” statements were because of the stripped fine tuners. I think they were referring to general quality (not vintage). Nor were they warranted. I’ve used that guitar now for it’s entire existence because of its ability to stay in tune. As far as the strings breaking is concerned, I haven’t had that problem. I play an average of 5 days a week at least and stretch strings (GHS Boomers GBXL009) generally a half, whole, and three half steps at a time. I might break a high E after four to six months but usually change strings more often than that. I replaced the locking nut w/ one that has flip tabs instead of allen screws (I forget the manufacturer, if anybody remembers those I’d love to know) for a much quicker tuning adjustment when necessary. Ouch…really wish I’d been the guy you sold the old system 1 trem to. I’ll do everything I can to keep this one stock before tapping it out for new fine tuners but as a last resort I will do it. Thanks again. Marksound…I’m curious about the one w/ a kahler bridge on it. Do you happen to know a link where I can see one. One of the things I like about System 1 is the ability to bend up and down w/out having to cut away a fairly good sized hole in the top of the basswood. I’ll check into Wilkinson. Thanks. Robert the Damned…You rock…It’s worth 9 bucks to me to try at least one. I looked at the bridge and the f. tuners closely and I’m pretty sure it’s the latter. Racer X… I truly appreciate the words of encouragement. This has been my favorite guitar since 1986 when I bought it off the rack at what I think was the second Guitar Center ever built (in West Covina Calif.). I will milk it for as much time as it will give. Not to worry about the fretsonthenet thing. It warmed me up considerably to see an actual picture of the fine tuners other than on my guitar. Now that I know what to look for I’ll search too but any input would still be appreciated. Also, is your title in reference to speed racer or paul gilbert or neither? If it’s Paul Gilbert, you intimidate me if only in name. Rock on!! Thanks to everybody for the input.
  2. Howdy all guitar wizards, I have an 86 strat (not a Squire) and the fine tuners of the trem bridge are starting to cross-thread. I've been told to throw the guitar into the trash but it has some sentimental value to me. There is a pic of an identical version of this bridge here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...me=STRK:MEWA:IT I would like to find replacements for the fine tuners alone or the entire bridge. Any kind input would be apppreciated.
  3. Thanks for the input everybody (particularly Paul Marossy, Nitefly SA and even you, RobertLatham1). I'll look into all of it. Wow.....guitarnuts is a brilliant site. Thanks much Paul.
  4. I have a strat w/ standard humbuckers at the bridge and two stacked double coils at middle and neck. I'm getting some pretty nasty feedback from the two stacked P.Us. at high volume. I've eliminated gain mismatching and environment as possibilities. I believe it's because their not waxed. My 1st question is if I wax them will it alter tone or output level. My 2nd is what is the best way to go about it. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks
  5. Alright now we're talking. I've got the G-Major and am extremely happy. By the way when I went back to the store where I was quoted 350 I was informed after he rang me up w/ a 450 total that he had made a mistake at his 5 day earier quote. In light of this I got one on ebay. Anywho there are no dropouts (just like Gemleggat mentioned) and it registers preset changes just as guickly and efficiantly as the PSA-1. This is only a mild testament to the capeabilities this thing has. Thanks to everyone for all the input.
  6. Thanks much guys for all your input. Sorry for the delayed reply. LOVEKRAFT, to answer your question on the stunning PSA-1 I've used nothing but this unit for recording and live applications for the last 10 years. For the money I've not been able to find another simulator w/ as much tube cloning versitility. Thanks again for the L-pad info. As far as the effects go I think I'm gonna give the TC Electronic G major a whirl. I found a place in Austin that sells them for 350 new. Thats better than any used Ebay price I could find by comparrison. I'll let you guys know what it's like after I've had a chance to play w/ it. Thanks all.
  7. I'm looking for a multi effects rack mountable, midi controllable unit. The problem I'm having is on the four or five units I've messed w/ they have a 1/2 second or so "drop out" (in volume) immediately after preset switch via midi controller OR face plate controller. Does anyone have any suggestions on a unit that switches presets immediately w/ no hesitation, click or drop out? P.S. I've tried every routing possibility w/ the same results. My preferred routing is: guitar/sansamp PSA-1/looped to effect/back into PSA-1/out to amp. Thanks
  8. Do you hear that unclej!!! Get the heck crackin' on my 16 ohm L-pad. No matter what the cost ........be it 2, 4, even 10 dollars. Money is no option. P.S. Thanks for all you guys' help on this issue.
  9. Thanks for the prompt reply. I understand you've also helped unclej w/ my issue. On the subject of the L-pad; the tweeters are wired in series and they are each 8 ohms, does this not double the ohmage to 16 and if so do I need a 16 ohm L-pad? Thanks again
  10. This is my first posting so be gentle. I run my guitar through a sansamp into a keyboard amp (1oo watt 4 ohm one 15"/ two tweeters). I have two questions. 1. I replaced my 15 w/ an evm15L @ 8 ohms. Do I have to put a paralleled resistor on it (to match ohmage) or will it run ok w/out? 2. I would like to place a volume pot after the crossover (a cap) to control both tweeters (8 ohms each run in series). I understand I need something called an L-pad but do I need a 16 ohm L-pad (to match ohmage of two series 8s) or can I use an 8? And if I do need 16 where can I get one.
