  1. I am the proud owner of a lovely Peavey wolfgang and up to know i've only swapped the trem for a new Schaller 2 floyd, which is my favourite and it all works great. Now i have 2 x 4-conductor Humbuckers with a Gibson style pickup selector switch middle being both ON.The mod i want is to be able to select the 2 inside coils of the humbuckers, but i can't find any wiring diagram that shows how to do it. I have 1 500K volume pot and NO tone pot and i would still like to be able to have the switch in the middle position, giving me both ' Buckers ON. I realise i might need at least a push pull pot to do this as there's No Way i'm drilling any holes in my quilt top. I already have some push pull pots and just need a wiring diagram to show me how to do it. I've done plenty of pickup mods before and can solder well, just never done this one before.thanks. Dean.
  2. I made my own very cheap and simple winder from an aluminium lathe thing that you can attatch a power drill to in the bargain bucket at B+Q,cost a fiver. I've used a hand drill as well at first and now have the motor off a Singer sewing machine with the little speed control pedal, replacing the power drill. All of those work and i wind fairly slowly, probably about or less than 3 a sec. I don't count the winds i just know when i'm in the general ballpark area and the measure the resistance by scraping a little insulation off,if it's wrong i just add or take away a few winds. Pretty basic really as i'm poor and being a carer there's no change on the horizon with cash flow. My first was the neck 'Bucker off my warlock as it was awful as standard and measured 15K.I used the same bobbin and magnets and just rewound it to a lower resistance-8.5K.I did use a trick i heard of though and used a very thin piece of plastic between the magnets and the windings,a la Gibby Airbucker. It sounds very clear now and nothing like it was before and i had no way of waxing or potting it so i tried white wood glue added whilst winding. It worked but if i went fast i got covered in PVA hence i wound slowly.I've wound about a dozen now and fancy trying slightly unbalanced coils in a 'Bucker as i have a good friend who is best mates with Jim Rolph and he does that with PAF's.I even mailed Jim and told him what i was doing and he said i was doing fine on a shoestring budget and confirmed that he has tried the Airbucker trick too. As long as you're not in a hurry that works for me,hope it has been of some use to you
  3. Thanks guys that's exactly what i was after and the 2 tutorials are excellent with decent pics too Saber . Yet again you never cease to amaze me and all my thanks
  4. I am replacing the worn brige posts that the Floyd rose copy trem of my Peavey wolfgang special has. They are very worn and a bit on the cheap side and i already have their replacements ready to fit made from hardened steel and better quality. However the inserts in the top of my wolfgang need to be removed to replace them with the new inserts and posts and i've never done this job before. Whenever i've done this before the posts inserts were loose and could be easily removed but they're in quite well on my Wolfie and i really need to remove them for the new ones. Is their some method to use when removing these posts ? I imagine their should be some tried and trusted method of removal but i want to be absolutely sure before i proceed. The trem's baseplate is OK BTW just the posts are very cheap and well-worn.Thanks everyone
  5. I have never owned a guitar with a Maple board before until i bought my Wolfgang special[for a song BTW]. I don't want it to have the appearance of a worn Maple board as i like it the way it is,so is there some product that anyone could recommend for keeping it clean ? I never bothered before as my others are rosewood and i like them worn, but the Wolfie is my pride and joy and i want the board to look nice and clean.
  6. It's a shame really as you have some great stuff i saw,but like others I prefer to buy any wood personally so i can inspect it before i buy.Your exc pics did the job for me really though I am thinking of buying some of the neck laminates in the Neck timber section of craft supplies myself for my thru-neck projects.I live not too far from it so I could visit and buy by eye,if you get my drift. Please excuse my ignorance but what did you mean by saying craft supplies are a bit "meh".Do you mean they "big themselves up a bit" Like were the best, forget the rest sort of thing ? I went to david dykes site too and downloaded the pdf's and they both seem to have some exc timber.I really like to inspect the goods with something like timber for a guitar for instance and that's why i may plump for Craft Supplies. They both seem quite reasonable price-wise and i tried the local Timber yards[W.Midlands] but just got funny looks when i asked for Alder or maple. Suffice to say fryovanni if I lived in the US i'd be all over you like a cheap suit for some of those great timbers.,and thanks for the url's too mattia.I'll have a look and see what i can find, cheers
  7. Thanks Possum1284 and verhoevenc that's just what i was after as i've been having a try and making progress, but that's just what i needed. I'll have a crack at it tomorrow. Alas Marksound I am but a poor and lowly church mouse,so i doubt whether i'll ever have the ability to buy anything on the net as I have no cards and I rather doubt i ever will. No big deal I was just curious more than anything really as this is a very good site for info, i find it very helpful as i was iffing and arring about using some Teak I have as the spine of a a thru-neck[i got it for free]and i got 2x 7 foot benchtops of mahogany recently from my old school and this wood is begging to be turned into a guitar
  8. I'm a newbie in this forum and from England. Does this wood come from the USA ? I ask 'cos i'm very interested myself but I have ordered from the US before[stew-mac,AES]and shipping can be hideously expensive,as i have found out to my cost plus VAT and import duty. So do i have to ship it from the states ? to the UK ? If so it's a shame as we get stung on the price of timber here and if you ask for tonewoods you might as well add three noughts to the end of the price tag. Any ideas on how much it costs to ship to the UK anyone ?
  9. Hi all, couple of questions for you.First where is this downloads section where the PRS plans are ?[i'm a newbie here] Next thing is i am trying to do something just like verhoevenc described. ON the front cover of "Make your own electric guitar" is a pic of a body, the shape of which i have fallen in love with.I want to scan it into adobe photoshop 7 and then manipulate it so i can eventually "blow it up" to actual-size. However i have little or no idea how to do this and everyone i've asked doesn't know how to either.I already have the image in photoshop as i scanned it in and used the lasoo tool to "roughly" give me the outline of the body, but now i'm stuck as i have no idea how to do this and frankly the fact i scanned it in OK and did the lasoo thing too was a minor miracle for me, as i haven't had a PC for very long and i'm not very good at it. Any advice or help would be very greatfully appreciated.
  10. A few days ago i bought myself a Peavey Wolfgang in almost unplayed cond for only £220 and am very, very pleased with it. The neck is often said to be wide, well it's nowhere near as wide as a Warlock platinum pro i have which i'm shaving down a little and rounding over the edges. But here's my question.I have a Douggie Wilkes Slut, very HM single bridge schaller bucker and trem and very good except the neck is a little bit TOO SLIM. Has anyone ever Widened a neck before ? I only need about 1/8 inch in total and it'll be just right. The neck has NO BINDING and was wondering what the best way to solve this prob would be.I could easily route the edges for binding and get a bit creative with blending it in.I am about to re-fret it so i don't have to pull the frets as i've already done that and thought this would be a good opportunity.I just need the fingerboard to be a little wider not the whole neck. Or is there some time-honoured method that i should use to accomplish this task ? "The Slut"[that's it's real name] isn't worth much and i've modded it a lot already so don't worry about me screwing something up that costs and i'm pretty good with woodwork as i have my own little workshop that was the spare bedroom So i'm open to any ideas or suggestions and i know i could make another neck but apart from that one thing the neck is great,so i would rather modify it as i like it and it suits my hands.Just needs to be a little wider. Thanks everyone.
  11. Well gents thanks very much for the help.I love the links with the pics of the thru-necks. In fact all of it is great and as i have a bit of Teak i think i will use it,just keep my eye on gluing.I use titebond usually but have used loads of superglue too in my repairs. I recently got two seven foot long mahogany bench tops from my local school which i attended years ago for free over two inches thick and over two feet wide. There are are a few knocks and dents but nothing too bad and i remember them from when i attended, and that was over twenty years ago. I'll make a start on it and thanks for the info.
  12. HI I'm Deanbo a newbie around here.I want to build a thru-neck guitar for myself and i would like to know if Teak is suitable for use as the spine of a three-piece neck of a Thru-neck guitar.I asked a Luthier i know and he could see no reason not to but has no idea of it' tonal properties and apart from I have read about Teak being "oily" which i don't understand as mine is very old straight, stable and dry. I have quite a bit of Teak, in some long lengths too and as i am quite poor and i know Teak is used for furniture. I assume it would be structurally strong enough and i really need to make a thru-neck as i have small hands and find the heel of a bolt-on very obtrusive. I repair guitars and have built a few bolt-ons and made a few necks from scratch except for the fingerboard.I have always bought them and intend to do so again. I want it to be 24 3/4" scale as that is easier for me to play than 25 1/2". I joined this forum yesterday and may i take this opportunity to tell you all how impressed i am with the wealth of knowledge in here.I would also like to ask a quick question. I found the thread on thru-neck guitars[pinned] but i see red x's insted of pics ? Is there some plug-in that's required to see them ? What is the file extension that is used ?I am running Xp Pro with SP 2 and IE 6 as my browser. Thanks to all that can help and hi to everyone and please feel free to ask any questions.
