  1. No, you don't need locking tuners and a locking nut. If you have a floating trem (Edge, Floyd Rose, etc.) then a locking nut would be a really good idea so the string doesn't move through the nut when you dive on the trem. However, if you have a stop bar or standard trem, locking tuners would be very nice cos they'll keep everything in tune a bit more.
  2. Actually, if you have 10 or so LED's in parellel, they're gonna use quite a bit of juice so the battery won't last that long. And you can buy self blinking LED's.
  3. derek, canuck, ELXVintagefade: check your email. Sorry for the delay sending. Been away for a while.
  4. This might be disagreed with but if you're going to refinish the guitar in a solid colour, I'd be inclinded to knock the cavity completely through and glue in a piece of wood. Could be hard to do properly but it would give you some choices. And definately sheild the cavity!!!
  5. It would be possible but what do you mean by "weird synth"?
  6. yeah john, I'm up in Dundalk going into 2nd year of Software Development in the IT. Know any good wood suppliers in this country? I ask Gerry Hayes of Haze Guitars but he didn't tell me where he gets his :-(
  7. What does everyone think of them? I've got one in my ESP and I think it's the greatest thing since the active pickup!
  8. Sorry, I meant saddles. Couldn't think of the word at the time. It's a standard 2 post trem that I'll be converting to a floyd rose in the next couple of weeks. Just thought it'd be a bit weird to have a 26" or so scale length!
  9. It means that from the bridge side of the nut to the bridge is 25" inches long. As a side to this thread, I just measured the length of my epiphone and it 25.5" long to the posts and another 10/16's to the blocks!! Any idea why?
  10. hey john, where did you get that would and how much for it? What are you studying in dcu?
  11. Yeah, it would have helped if I'd posted the scale! cheers.
  12. Can anyone even help me out with how far from the 12 fret to put the posts so I can hope for some sort of intonation?
  13. I'll assume you're not going to have a pickguard. AFAIK, the only way to do it is to route out a channel from behind to fit the pickup and then cover it some a plastic cover or whatever you want. James Hetfeild's first explorer had the this construction.
  14. Unless you have magic self powered LED's you do. However, I'll assume you have about 10 led's going into the neck. If you run those straight to the battery, a standard square 9v battery will last only a VERY short time considering the current drain that's goin to be on it!!!
  15. SimsCustom Try here. They do LED inlays for the bassist from Limp Bizkit and Steve Vai.
  16. I have a blue print for a Jem777 if that'll do ya. It's pretty big! 1641 x 2224
  17. Hi, I have a spare Floyd Rose lying about that I want to install on a Epiphone strat. It's going to be non-recessed and I don't have the locking nut but I'll probably end up putting a Trem-setter on it. I just want to know stuff about removing the old posts, putting in new ones, distances, routing patterns and that sort of stuff. Cheers.
  18. I have the blueprint for a Jem777. I'll email to whoever wants it Rooooooocccccccckkkkkk Ooooooooooonnn! Or something.
  19. Maybe Ken Lawrence, Seymour Duncan, Satch, Vai, Buzz Feiten, Mr ESP UK?
  20. Maybe you should consider plywood. I've played a couple of guitars made of the stuff and the tone is actualy quite nice. I've a plywood one here. Horribly high action but I got a perfect tone For Metallica's Whiskey In The Jar with that and a crappy Ibanez 10w. You should try one out and see.
  21. There's a device available that is two movable arms with crocidile (sp?) clips on the end of them. You can put a circuit board or wires or whatever in them and they ain't going to move. For soldering pots, I put the shaft of the pot in a beer bottle and solder away!!!! Yes, I am a student.
  22. AFAIK, it's 250K for hummers and 500k for single coils. As for the switches, it depends where you're from but you shuld be able to get them in any decent electronics shop or even a music shop.
