  1. I got a set of DiMarzio two DP181 neck and one DP182 bridge pickups off Ebay. According to DiMarzio's instructions you should solder together the black and white wires and tape up the ends. Why are the wires even there? They must have some function.
  2. Hmm. If I had to guess, I'd say it's acrylic. It states that you don't need to sand it, it doesn't yellow and it takes 30 minutes to dry.
  3. I think you have to return it at some point though.
  4. Whoa! The White Falcon II is a hollow body with double cutaway design. If you're thinking of building a solid body with the dimensions of the White Falcon II, you'd better be one big, muscular mutha! 'Cause it's gonna be real heavy.
  5. I got a couple of supposedly brand new, never used genuine American Stratocaster necks off Ebay. One with a maple fretboard, the other rosewood. Neither neck had crowns filed into any of the frets. The frets are all leveled but not crowned. Other than that, the necks are in perfect condition. Do these necks come this way from the factory?
  6. I have a Strat and one day, I plugged it into my amp and... nothing. I wasn't getting any sound. I took it all apart, bypassed the bottom tone pot and voila! Sound. I replaced the supposedly bad pot and all is well. Has this happened to anyone else? Just curious.
  7. I used the Woodburst tung oil stuff once on a swamp ash body. Applying the stuff couldn't be any easier. However, it is a pigmented stain. I found there were a couple of areas on the body that the pigment would not adhere to. Effectively, I had bald spots! I tried to put on subsequent coats, but that would just remove the pigment from the previous coat and the bald spots remained. I didn't use their prestain conditioner. Perhaps that would have helped.
  8. It's $6.15 to ship it, but they tack on a $5 handling fee! Bastages. It's the only polyester repair kit I could find anywhere. I'm not about to respray the whole thing just for a tiny imperfection.
  9. Okay. I've been searching and haven't been able to come up with an answer. I'm 99% sure this guitar body has a polyester finish. I need to repair a small chip. I've glued the chip back into place, but the border around the repair is unsightly. If I used something along the lines of this stuff do you think that would look decent when I'm done? Any other suggestions would be welcomed.
  10. I need to do some cosmetic repairs to a Jackson DR7 and can't seem to find any info on what they use to finish their guitars with. Nitro or poly? I think it's poly. If it is, what brand would you suggest I use?
  11. It's an attention getter. We're getting close to halloween so I thought it would be appropriate. Thanks for all the suggestions. The ferrules were factory installed. I don't know what method Jackson uses but if they were indeed heated, I'm sure scraping around the edges with a razor would break any adhesions. Once I get a little clearance under the lip of the ferrule I'm sure by then I would find out what I'm dealing with. Thanks for all the suggestions.
  12. Thanks for the reply. It's the "maybe a knife or some kind of blade" part of it that scares me.
  13. Greetings all! Brand Newbie here. I have a Jackson DR 7 which has a string-through body. I'm dressing it up with all gold hardware and would like to do the same with the ferrules. However, I'm a bit nervous about this. I don't want to screw up the finish. What is the safest/best way to remove these ugly, grey ferrules?
