  1. Is that guitar one of those Kay Les Paul copies with effects and stuff? If it is, nice guitar! (I like guitars that are a little different) EDIT: Oh no, it isn't. What is it? It looks like something similar.
  2. Hey thanks! I'll have that one too please! Like I said, I'll probably use it at some point.
  3. Can you send me that schem please? I'll save it cause I'll no doubt have to wire it/draw up a diagram for someone sometime. Thanks a lot
  4. As mattia corrected, the bridge pup does tend to be hotter. The strings don't vibrate as much at the bridge and so stronger magnets are needed to pick up the sound at the same volume as at the neck. If you put a bridge pickup at the neck it may be slightly muddy, and the stronger magnets will cause the sustain to decrease.
  5. It's taken me time to get parts together for my double neck project, but I just get them cheap when I can.
  6. Hank Marvin really has a 50s tone, but Mark Knopfler had a 60's strat and lots of his other strat copies and such (like his Schecters) had Duncan vintage pickups in. I think it'll be a good match for what you want, and since you can get them cheap - all the better.
  7. Well, what wood is it at the moment? Maple is a common choice for a Strat if you want a brighter tone.
  8. That's fantastic. I'm really liking the neck laminate. Makes me want to do something like that on a future project. Keep up the good work!
  9. Seems like a pro job to get that fixed. It'll probably need a neck reset and shizzle, and the neck reset will cost loads.
  10. You can't do that without some switches. You might be able to do it with a superswitch, but I'm not too good on them.
  11. As as been said, a straight edge and a try square really are necessary when building anything (never mind a guitar). I'd use a hand plane, but that's me, cause I prefer using hand tools.
  12. 7 strings don't sell too well on eBay, and especially the Epiphone Les Paul ones. They should increase in value as the years go by, as they were only made for one year (I think).
  13. I'm not keen on Fender acoustics at all. I opted for a second hand 12 string, and I got a 1970's Hohner Leyanda LW-1200 N. Its a lovely guitar. Herringbone top and back, abalone rosette, bound neck and headstock, mahogany back and sides and a solid spruce top. I'll be fitting a piezo soon no doubt. Anyway, I tune mine to DdGgCcFfaadd, to relive tension on the neck and strain on the top. It's quite an old instrument, so I think it's better i do this. I'd advise tuning down to Eb or D, and just using a capo.
  14. Manchester? I'll have to keep an eye out in a few years time. One in manchester would be fantastic. Doesn't take long to get there on the X43 at all.
  15. As far as I know, that should work. I'm not sure on what you mean with the N8B and such though. Put it into words for me and I'll try and get you a wiring diagram drawn up. EDIT: Oh, and about the addition of caps/resistors, a log pot would work better then a lin pot, but I dunno about adding resistors.
  16. Yup, just use a meter. Get a multimeter if you don't have one already, it'll prove rather useful.
  17. Wish we had stuff like that here in the UK. They don't happen too often at all. If I get a lot better when I'm older, and when I've been building for like 20 years or more, I'd definately set up a school or something like that.
  18. That's really good for a first attempt. Lovin that Phat Cat. My first project better come out well.....
  19. Ahh, I misread. If it's the coil thats uncovered that should be ok, as vintage pickups used to be like that. Just put the pickup cover on and stick 'em in.
  20. Hmmm... if the ground wire is bare, it will have been stripped. Usually, the bare is wrapped around the hot inside insulation tubing. You could leave it, but it's bound to touch something inside the guitar. Tape it up, and it'll be fine. (better to tin the wire first so that the tape sticks to the wire rather than one strand of the wire).
  21. Nice! And I really like that flame. It's not often you see a thread on a violin being built on the net.
  22. You wouldn't believe how much my friend would envy you. He wanted that Les Paul a lot. I don't like the colour, and I wouldn't choose a 7 string (cause I'd NEVER use it), but i think you got yourself a nice guitar for a nice price too.
  23. That Zebrano looks fantastic. I'm using a Zebrano top on my double neck (I'll make a thread, don't worry). I hope it looks as good as that. Keep it up!
  24. That diagram looks right to me. I've never heard anything bad about those schems anyway.
