    Lookin pretty sweet Drak. Haven't seen quilt figure like that before. It definitely will look like a rich sunset when is all buffed and polished. You mentioned that you use an airbrush to spray the water based aniline burst. Having no clue about airbrush brands, I was wondering what you would recommend? cheers.

    OK, thank you all for the excellent well heeled advice, much appreciated. I think I will go for the cheapest Tele I can find, even if I can find one in the dumpster! My whole life I have been pulling things apart to see how they work, so i think the best way for me to either re-build a Tele or build one from scratch is to pull one apart and go from there. I have to be careful about going too nuts on this, or again I will have a million things on the go and another frigging hobby that I cant stop By the way, I'm a Bass player by preference, but I love playing guitar too, you know muffing around with a 4-track in my bedroom.. When I get a Tele, I will start a thread on the build/re-build and you can have a beer and laugh, cheers from the Apprentice.

    Well that is another option I guess, harvesting it for the parts and using the whole thing for a template. In that case there is an even cheaper one believe it or not here. Not too sure what the difference is? When you say poor build quality, can you give me examples for the clueless?

    Being a total newbie to guitar building but being a competent Cabinet Maker, I would like some suggestions as to why or why not to go ahead with this. Thinking of getting a cheap squire from here Venue Music in Australia and pulling all the hardware off. Thickness sand and probably add a veneer too both sides (or a nice Quilt cap?) and add some binding and refinish.. Would this be the cheapest route to getting a nice custom Tele?     Hi Richard, everyone is correct in saying that a well tuned and setup bandsaw is a dream to use, and will become one of your most used machines. Try starting here for some Bandsaw Information. Also, try searching through this forum Woodwork Forums...Bandsaws

    I have serious doubt about it being Goncalo 'Elvis'..... I have contacted the International Wood Collectors Society, and they have not heard of any timber commonly known as 'Nigerian Rosewood'. Another specie that has been suggested to me is 'Muninga'....

    Thanks Mattia for your reply(been awhile I know I have narrowed it down now, and am 99% sure it is 'Nigerian Rosewood', thanks to the help of Paul from Hobbithouse. Still dont know the botanical name, as there is very little info on the net.

    Well, here is my contribution. Obviously it's not a guitar, but it is 2" thick! Can't wait till I get a bandsaw I have book-matched it on photoshop.

    Hi all, I have some veneer that has got me stumped. Well, I have researched a little, but though it might be quicker testing out the knowledge here!     I will be watching with great anticipation! I'm a newbie to these methods, so it will be great to watch the process. I have read on this forum that it can be hard to get awesome deep result's with veneer, as opposed to say a carved 12mm thick top. I think it was Drak that gave up on a Quilted veneer top, anyway lookin forward to more pics!

    Hi all, i am a newbie here from Australia (first post!), and have completely fallen in love with quilted maple. Love looking at the brilliant examples on this forum of the dyed quilt.
