  1. Excellent advice everyone! i Did some thinking and some research over the last few days. I think I'll get that press machine and do it myself. Heck, I may get GOOD at it and start doing it along with some electronic stuff I already know
  2. Sorry for such a delay in replying. I've been working on some web pages:D yes, that's the plywood axe from my other thread I'm thinking i will try the sanding sealer since it's readily available at Lowes. Thanks a ton! That saves me quite a bit of cash Yes, it's going to be solid colors (Attempting my hand at an eddie van halen clone ) That's very interesting about the epoxy. I would have assumed that to be too thick and too hard once dried to work with ...Ive learned something

  4. Thanks for the quick reply I didn't know how hard it would be to find this product LOL I just want to make sure...looking at this picture, can anyone tell me if simply applying a coat or two of wood grain filler will be all that is needed?
  5. I've been to Lowes and Sherwin Williams. Neither have heard of a wood grain filler. I saw some at StewMac and was wondering if it was cheaper anywhere else? From the other places I've seen, it's about 15 bucks a pint. Is this right?
  6. from the looks of those pics, does this body need to have wood-grain filler applied? Or is plain wood-filler what I need for the rough edges?
  7. I could be wrong but I THINK rubberwood, and that's probably the slang for it, is a soft wood and most likely isn't what your axe is. That would be like making a guitar out of pine. LOL But then again, I am NO expert
  8. According to that website, they suggest laying out your needs. What if you are in the process of getting tools and equipment and don't yet know what your needs are?
  9. In regards to the tone, the guitar actually sounded decent. I probably slapped in ten different bridge pickups and I can't remember what the 'original' tone was LOL This is certainly one axe I'm not worried about as far as base-tone. I'm relying on DiMarzios for this one Isn't it amazing the range of material used in guitars? From cheap wood to rare wood, from cheap plastic to fiberglass to expoxy. That's why I love this instrument SO much!! How many violin's have been make out of plywood or fiberglass and been just as populour as the player?
  10. Does anyone have some plans to share? I have a very small workspace and need something that will have good lighting, keep dust to a minimum, and evacuate fumes, paint-overspray and dust. I found this: What the general thought of this?
  11. UncleJ: Thanx, I'll do some more research and weigh my options (cost of tools, local guys, etc) Jammy: I've learned to have thick skin. I didn't take offense whatsoever Thankx for defending me All: I had my neck in a local shop for over 18 months (literally) and I finally got tired of the excuses. Who has the best deal on decent tools? Stew-Mac seems to be pricey but from past experience, they are quality.
  12. I had planned to refret it myself but I'm not going to pay the money for the tools for such a small job. It won't be that hard. what I'll have to do is send the body along with the neck (attached of course) so the refretter can restring it and make his/her adjustments. I already know what fret guage I want.
  13. Isn't this the same as a stacked humbucker? simply a magnet on top of the other?
  14. Are there any clubs local to Chattanooga, TN that I could join that would do something like tool-sharing, lectures, seminars, etc? If not, how many are in my area? I'd be interested in forming this. Personally, I can't afford a lot of the tools do to luthier work but I've been a member of clubs before such as a reef-aquarium club that the members share equipment and give local help. What term should I use to search for on Google? I think that's a great idea but I don't know where to start
  15. funny! Well, at least I know what I'm up against for sure now. It's just a pawn-shop axe that's been through many paint jobs and many clubs. I'm attempting to replicate the frankenstrat finish with this one
  16. I need to have new frets put in. I took out the old ones so i could sand the fretboard and now, I just need to have a pro finish the job. Can someone suggest a reliable person to whom I can mail the neck off or someone near Chattanooga, TN? Thanks!!
  17. I've experienced this too. It turned out there was a kink (as stated above). I've learned to never set intonation unless the strings are fresh. It's a nightmare chasing your tail around LOL
  18. Sweet pic tutorial!! Great clarity and layout! I've been wanting to take my Paul apart and do some whole-body haze-removal and now that I know how to take the hardware COMPLETELY out, it'll be easier. Man, I love this place.
  19. You're right, and im sorry.. . but I've learned a lot since i've had this guitar (which has been about a month so far), but one of the things I've learned is no matter how used to them I get i'm still going to be annoyed at them! They are ok for riffs but i really don't like them for soloing that much But i decided you're right.. i 'm going to keep it how it is and just use my other guitars when I feel like it ← Nice to see some adults on the internet
  20. Who has the best prices on these? I was thinking of getting modern trem for my little project guitar I'm toying with.
  21. I've taken my japanese squire to the wood and check out what 's happened. Is it something to be alarmed about? What kind of wood is this? It almost appears to be plywood
  22. Like this one: http://www.eddievanhalen.com/cgi-bin/index...=673645&start=0 This is an axe built from hand ..NICE!
  23. I'll certainly do a search The sites I remember seeing actually had 'scientific' ways of doing it. These weren't just other Frankenstrat jobs but a way of life. The replicas were unbelievable! I hope to find them again soon
  24. A while back, I stumbled across some sites that showed how to paint Eddie van Halen's famous axe, the Frankenstrat. I can't find those now. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and may be have some links?
  25. I love the color and shade of blue but I can tell there is some orange-peel going on with the top-coat. If you buffed that out, it may actually improve it 300% And i agree about the routing. It's left room for some improvement. But, I have to say, I could probably not do a better job with my current skill-set Are there four holes at the bridge area? Is that intentional or is that an extra one by mistake? But, I'm no expert and have no idea at your skill-set so please take this as constructive criticism and not an insult.
