Yes that's my finished form, I might do some more mods on it in maybe5-10 years when I'll have a garage. The most important thing with the mod was to make it sound better, the looks are just plus. Oh and thanks for the warning, mate!

Well the guitar had some ugly grey spots(can't see them so well in the pic) in the finish that I didn't like and I also wanted it to look unique.

I bought a Harley Benton Telecaster guitar and decided to paint it and change most of the electronics. It had a natrual satin oil/wax finish that I sanded down. I also sanded some sexier contures to the body. I painted the flamed maple top, I mean what was left of it, to a somewhat black/brownish stain finish. The mechanics and electronics I changed was: Tuners: Schaller locking tuners (black) Straplocks: Schaller Pickups: Dimarzio Cruiser(neck) and ToneZone T(bridge) Switch: Dimarzio standard 5-way switch. Here are the pics from this modification. Sorry about the quality on some of them. I'm very happy about it all because it was quite hard to sand, paint and clearcoat because I don't have a carpentery or a garage. I had to do it all on the floor in my small flat and on the balcony. This was also the first time I ever painted a guitar. This is now my favorite guitar even though I own a Ibanez JPM, it plays like a dream and sounds real good. no, that's not possible without also changing position 4. if you did not solder the bridge white+red to teh switch, you would have nothing on in position 5, but you'd also have no bridge single coil in position 4. OK, thanks! I'll do the diagram with the modification you helped me with.

from only a quick look at that diagram, i think position 4 already has the bridge split. so their list of what coils are on in position 4 must be a typo. to change the neck humbucker in position 4 to not split, all you'd have to do it not solder the neck white+red to the right-hand side of the switch. just solder the neck white and red together and tape them off. Thank you very much! One last question. Is it possible to make position 5 on that diagram to be nothing instead of bridge split. What I'm saying is that none of the pickups would be used in any way in pos 5? how would that be done then?

you've got to be more specific about positions 3 and 4. for 3, do you mean bridge and neck each in series, then in parallel with each other? and what is 4--the two humbuckers in series with each other to make a giant, 4-coil pickup? regardless, you can't get either of those combinations with a standard 5-way switch. you'll need a 24-pole superswitch. Thanks for the info. I was afraid it wouldn't be possible with a standard 5-way switch. I'm getting a Dimarzio Tone Zone T(bridge) and Dimarzio Cruiser(Neck) and I'm wondering how the wire diagram for these pickups would be with a standard 5-way switch 1 volume and 1 tone-knob. Pickup switching would be the following: 1 pos: bridge pickup 2 pos: bridge(inner coil) + neck pickup 3 pos: bridge + neck parallel 4 pos: bridge + neck series 5 pos: neck pickup

Ok, thanks for the answer. How much do you think I need to sand? When do I know when I've sanded enough? So there's no way to get a stained look without removing the oil?

I recently bought a guitar with a flamed maple top, it has got an natural satin oil/wax-finish(sorry have got no pics) but I'm planning on making it a black stain finish. Do I need to remove the oil/wax-finish on this guitar before I stain it? If so, how do I remove it? Is it possible to stain it without removing the oil/wax-finish?
