  1. Thanks for your help guys...here are the pics. I'll try to get some higher rez pics on there ASAP. Photobucket pics?
  2. Hey guys I've got a few pics here for ya of what is going on. I'm not used to working on Gibsons so I'm not shure how to work some of these bridge pieces. The action is set really low...a little bit of buzing and lack of sustain in the upper registers. The guitar has .011's on it and is tuned to a half step down. The strings are contacting the top of the tail piece as they climb up to the bridge...i don't think thats good. No bushing is showing on the treble side and just a little on the bass. I would like to raise the action some...and correct the set up. how do you post pics here?
  3. mattia, thanks for the reply, and thanks for the great reading list. I read Dan Erlewine's Mod Squad segment in Guitar Player every month. He is really good. I was actually gonna ask if anyone had some recomended reading, but you already answered that. I'm gonna order those up tonight. Thanks. I feel pretty confident in my abilities to work with tools, I took wood shop all through high school. I just wasn't shure if I wanted my first fret job to be on a pretty nice guitar, but I'll give it try. Your right it would be more rewarding if I do it all myself.
  4. Hi all, My name is Mike , and I am new to the world of working on, building and restoring my own instruments. This forum looks like it will be a weath of good information. My first project instument is going to be an older (80's) Gibson ES335 dot inlay. The guitar is in pretty rough shape. It needs to be refinished, re-fretted, and totally re-wired. It is a pretty expensive first project, but I don't plan to do any work that can really screw it up this time around. I think I will leave the fret job, new inlays and neck adjustments to a pro. I intend to do all the electronics, and refinish the guitar myself. The Gibson was originally all black. My intention is to keep it black on the back, sides, and neck but finish the top in a different translucent color...maybe a nice dark red. I would also like to change the inlay from dots to blocks. When it is all finished it should be very a very good looking and sounding guitar. (I hope!) I'll post some pics soon, I promise! For now my nose will be burried in this forum. Thanks guys, I look forward to posting with you.
