  1. Hello there, thanks for all the help everyone. I am building a strat neck, so probably non-angled headstock (unless you think doing a scarf is a better idea... I was thinking about it), obviously bolt on. This is going to function as a practice neck; I'm building it for my Squire. I'd like to make it a real nice neck, although it doesn't matter as much as the Ibanez Jem neck I will be building later on. Thanks for all a'the help!
  2. I've read numerous guides on the meticulous process of making a neck; the main tutorial by Steve on the PG site, and the entire section in 'Building Electric Guitars' by Martin Koch, and yet I still don't have a clear idea of how the process is going to go. I bought a neck blank and a fretboard from Stew Mac, can anyone please provide me with a clear list of steps? Even if they are vague, I just want to know what order to do things in. Thanks much!
  3. Longest sentence I've ever read.
  4. I just rewired my volume pot on my strat (the old one was faulty, and skipped in and out) with a new pot. I'm no expert, but I can do basic solders. As I unsoldered the old pot I made a diagram of how I thought the soldering went, and resoldered the new pot in. Not only is there a loud humming, but the volume doesn't even seem to work. No matter how I twist the thing, it still outputs. AHHH HELP PLEASE!
  5. I once owned a stratocaster (the 'powerhouse') that had an active midboost when you turned up one of the tone knobs. Could I modify my current strat with one'a those? How?
  6. When I but my blank, unfortunately the bandsaw cut at a bit of an angle. Since I am building a Jem guitar, I would like to have the edges as level as possible. I've already used a random orbit sander and done lots of hand-sanding, but it still seems uneven. Should I try using a spokeshave to level them out? Thanks.
  7. I've heard bad things about cheap FR's, but I dunno how much of a difference there actually is between a cheap one and a real one. I'd get some more opinions.
  8. No, it's certainly not plywood; I've checked the neckjoint. It looks like 1 peice (!?) Alder. Maybe I got a good one!?
  9. My Squier must be weird, it has 22 frets, although it was made a good 10 years ago. Thanks for the help!
  10. So hang on a second, I'm a bit weary of just accepting this. Everyone's SURE I can just make a new neck with 24 frets/25.5 and it'll work like the old neck (22 frets/25.5). Are you guys SURE? I'm about to drop some cash at stew-mac.
  11. I want to restore my good ol' Squire. The stock neck is CRAP so I'm gonna make my own! My first, by the way. I figure it'd be a good idea to make this my first considering it's a squire. ANYWAYS: I was shopping for fretboards at Stew-Mac. I decided on a preslotted (one step at a time) but it seems they only have 24 fret dealies. As long as I get a 25.5 inch scale length, can I get one of those 24 fret guys? Also, can I do inlays after the fret's have been slotted? THANKS!
  12. What kind of finish would you apply to a fretboard? Thanks!
  13. I'm building a Jem like guitar: Would I see better resonance in the wood if I left the handle out? Thanks!
