  1. The RG is my practice guitar. I figured I've had the thing for a while and I don't use it anymore, so Why not? I figured. I'll make sure that I use wax paper on the next go. What's cool is, I can't wait to give it another go! Thanks for the tips and encouragement.
  2. Hi all, If you look to the left you will see the newbie tag........and deservedly so. I have been reading through tutorials and forums for months, and I finally thought I had a good plan of attack for veneering an RG270 (because I have other guitars I would not dare touch). I bought some really nice quilt veneer and I cut it out according to the tutorial. I seen that some people use titebond and others use Gorilla Glue for woodwork. I decided to use gorrilla glue to apply the veneer to my headstock. I set it up like this: Flat piece of wood to distribute weight of the clamps>>>> Veneer>>>> Headstock>>>>> Flat piece of wood so the clamps didn't bore into the headstock>>> I waited 5 hours before checking my work, and I soon realized that the gorrilla glue expands THROUGH wood in order to bond. I could not get the top piece of wood off!! So the headstock looks like a big paddle! My wife and I laughed for about an hour when I showed it to her!! But I bet I don't have any bubbling of the veneer under there. At least I succeeded in that. Too bad I will have to remove it all and start over (with titebond). In case any other newbies out there think they are slick like I did. DON'T VENEER WITH GORILLA GLUE. unless turning your guitar neck into a paddle is what your goal is!
  3. Don't know if this is a stellar deal or not, but it sure is purdy! Body Blank on ebay
  4. It has its own style neck pocket, which gives the screws a unique configuration. So don't go buying a telecaster replacement from warmoth or something. Here is someone selling the neck from a 370DX at ebay. The pics don't show the screw config, but I'd be confident that they are the same because the 570 has the same as the 270 and i doubt that they changed them and then went back. RG Neck
  5. thanks for the quick replies! knowledgeable people willing to contribute info is what makes this stuff cool! As for universal Jems, i'll make sure to support them since it contributes to this.
  6. Hi all, I am going to be adding a flamed veneer top to my RG. I never use my middle and neck pickups, so I was planning on making it a one pickup guitar. Can I just cover the empty holes with the veneer, or should I fill them in before applying the veneer? P.S. anyone ever purchase veneer from here: http://www.universaljems.com/cart/veneer.htm
  7. Yeah, I am going to put a veneer on top. Stain the top, and tung oil the whole thing. Do I have to use a sealer on it, or will the tung oil act as a sealer? Thanks for the help!!!
  8. OK, Hee we go I am stripping an Ibanez body using my heat gun. I have removed most of the color can see the wood. It appears that I have reached what I believe is the sealer. In some spots it is down to wood, but most of it is there. It does not seem to react well to the heat and I got some minor burns. Is it easier to strip this part with chemicals, and if so can someone suggest a brand. Thanks
  9. just buy a pickguard blank and trace your old one and make it yourself! if not, this site might help http://www.terrapinguitars.com/ but remember, there is a wealth of knowledge around this forum (not including myself), and I can gaurantee you that if you look hard enough, someone has a way to make an awesome one that you would be proud to put on your RG.
  10. do you mean these guys http://www.airbrush-depot.com/scripts/depo...autoairhome.bbx They got some really great stencils too.
  11. That paint job looks like something I found at the alsacorp website. http://www.alsacorp.com/products/kits_2/BE_Crazer.htm They have a lot of interesting products.
