  1. Hey so I got this guitar from a family member. But I'm noticing a crack around the neck. Alot of guys say its just a finish cracking due to a mahogany neck and a maple body joint. What do you guys think? It's a 1999 epiphone dot. Mik. Plays very nice with good action, and the bridge is still adjustable.
  2. Thanks bizman. Yeah thats kinda what I had in mind. Just routing out top amd bottom of the pickups from the back
  3. So for the last year I've been dreaming about how I'm going to make my first guitar, and I think what I want to do is build a modified strat style, witha twist. I was thinking of routing out the rear top of the body and building a cover for it, putting my electrical mostly in the large cavity, but also cutting an f hole in the top, am I gonna have any feed back issues or any other foreseeable issues that I am over looking? Thanks
  4. Thanks. I'm gonna give it a shot then tomorrow night. I'm not looking for a high gloss finish tho. Rather the varnish that's on the back of the body, then the gloss on the front.
  5. Thanks guys. Last night i did take some 700 sand paper to a small spot, figured of I made it look worse I'd just touch it up again. But it seemed to go back down to raw wood fairly easily...worth the risk?
  6. Hey guys. So I'm an average player and a novice luthier, novice as in I am just starting to prove together a build. But just recently I picked up a beautiful les paul with a flamed maple cherry bust top. But for some reason the last owner buffed up the beautiful mahogany on the back of the neck, and stained it all black. So 1, how do I get the stain off with out losing to much wood, 2 what can I finish the mahogany with to make it shine just like the back of the the body? Thanks for looking
