  1. i dont just want to do volume and tone but havent quite made my mind up what i want to do yet. some kind of varitone or other such thing. any suggestions?
  2. got a bit of colour on it looks darker in this pic because of the flash this is a bit more like it is its gonna be an almost opaque black/dark brown on the back and sides, running over onto the top to hide the two little bits of maple that were stuck on the get the width right
  3. i had a pice of 5" wide flame maple and didnt know what to do with it. so i thought id make a little baby Holly. it will be 20" scale length with nashville tuning (basically the octave strings of a 12 string guitar if you dont know) heres a photoshop and here it is next to a full size one
  4. well its been a long time!! iv been getting other things sorted and waiting for the weather to calm down enough to get this finished. i should be able to finally get the last few coats sprayed this week some time. after what happened in japan at the weekend, i thought it would be a nice thing to do if i got this finished and auctioned it off in aide of the disaster. i cant afford to buy all the parts i need to finish it so im begging various people to help me get it done. so far tim mills at bare knuckle has agreed to donate a set of pickups. iv never done anything like this before so im going to have to do a bit of research about the best way to get the most money i can for it. hmmm...celebrities always bump prices up a bit - anyone know any? hehe
  5. iv been using aluminium tube for this but recently went looking for some silver tube and found some on a jewellery making site. dont know how they compare in price to what you've been using but heres a link EDIT: actually, having looked around that site there are crimp tubes and you get 100 of them which comes out at MUCH less than the long tubes
  6. we all make guitars. we all (presumably) like the guitars we make. if someone else doesnt like the guitars we make does that make us like them less? no. and if it does, then you're silly. whether people agree with your ideas about wood and sound and tone and whatever else, it doesnt really matter. one persons crap is anothers gold. there will ALWAYS be someone out there who disagrees with you, no matter how provable what you say is. just like there will always be someone who agrees with you even if you're spouting horrendous bum gravy. at the end of the day, you believe what you believe, and if you dont want to change your mind then you're not going to whatever proof anyone provides you with. if an alien landed tomorrow and announced to the world that it was him that created human life on earth and there is no god, and had absolute proof, do you think religious people would believe him? no. now everyone play nice or you're all going to bed with red bums and no supper!!!
  7. the snow has kinda stopped anything happening. so i built a snow girly instead
  8. heres the back and the headstock. the burst on the headstock looks washed out due to the flash.
  9. this is a lot darker than it looks in real life. theres been a bit of a run on the shoulder where the burst is so after flatting it down a bit tomorrow i shall have to redo that part of the burst
  10. got the burst on. once the clear coat goes on it will look a bit more subtle that it does now.
  11. oops forgot about this thread! here it is with some finish on. theres just a burst to do now and then clear coats. everything has been scraped clean
  12. sorry drak, i tried, but theres just no light today. its very dull and cloudy and too dark to do anything picture wise other than use a flash. i shall try again at some point
  13. its just that its always dark by the time im taking pictures. i'll try to remember to take on in the daylight tomorrow!
  14. the sunset part of the sunset rose finish. more scraping to be done!!!! got some colour on the mahogany today as well but i'll have to see what it looks like in the daylight tomorrow before i make up my mind about it
  15. nearly two and a half hours of scraping later and all the inlay is clear again. still have to scrape the edges of the wood and inside the f-holes (yikes), and will have to do most of it again after further colour coats as well.
  16. it doesnt look THIS red in real life. theres still some of the pink showing through.
  17. couple of sealer coats on. more colour coats on the front back and headstock next, then a cherry red on the mahogany (looks too brown next to the other colour), then more sealer, then burst, then clear coats.
  18. well sanding has cost me a few very stingy ouchy moments on my fingers - which are now also stained pink!! this is obviously not the final colour. there'll be transparent coats shot over this to make it more like the rose colour from the photoshop, then a kind of sunset thing making it a little darker at the bottom, then the burst.
  19. all ready for sanding now. heres a shot showing the treble side to see the veneers and heres the neck/body transition obviously LOTS of sanding to do!
  20. got the fretboard on and the neck shaped heres the back. the back plate isnt glued on yet - will have to wait for that to be on before finishing up the neck heel
  21. no i think im done with petals now. maybe. hehe. yeah i think thats it.
  22. i liked this better so i went and did it i think it works much better with the overall thing
