  1. This seems to be what I've learned in my limited guitar set up experience. I'm a sheet metal worker by trade and a shade tree mechanic by necessity so I have quite a bit of hands on with different files. The triangle file seems best when dealing with deep divots and the crowning file for finishing the shape. I make sure the pointed edge of the triangle file is blunted or rounded to help prevent damage to the fretboard and often with a stainless steel fret board protector. I use the sharpie method to keep the crown centered when using the triangular file and will do equal number of passes on each side of the fret, usually in sets of five. I'll start with a high angle for five passes and then roll the file over towards the fret for a shallower angle for five passes without going past center, repeating as necessary.
  2. I understand the observation about the talent displayed by many of the members here, there are truly some incredibly inspired builds posted regularly on this forum! I'm fairly new to the guitar repair and construction process as well but look forward to posting some of my work as I move forward. Welcome aboard!
  3. Package arrived intact, and there even happened to be a very nice maple blank inside! Thanks again for your generosity, hopefully I'll be able to put this to use before too long.
  4. Subscribed! Excellent work so far. I really like the idea of using the "tone infused" piano wood...
  5. LOL! I figured my first post might raise an eyebrow, hence the link to a more active forum profile. Since joining here a year and a half ago I have learned quite a bit but have not contributed as much as I would have liked. I am a big fan of "paying it forward" and like to do so when I can. I do sincerely plan to make use of the templates and hopefully I can start a build thread here soon. Your conditions are most agreeable, thanks! PM forthcoming.
  6. I realize this thread four months old, but I have an electric bass body that may very well get a handmade neck, so if you still have these templates laying around I would be very interested. I am a total amateur but definitely have some intermediate woodworking and mechanical aptitude. I have set up/repaired a couple of my own guitars and even done some setup on guitars for a couple of friends. I documented my first guitar salvage job here (on a different forum). If these templates have already been rehomed then that's cool, thanks for posting these up and making them available to the members here.
  7. There are some very talented members here and I have learned quite a bit from the information provided here. I picked up the guitar during the "lockdown" back in 2020 and am glad I did. I documented my first "salvage" job of a cheap guitar here (on a different forum). I've acquired a couple of other guitars that need some attention and have sketched out a couple of ideas for a custom build (or two). The custom guitars I've seen on this forum, especially those featured in the "GOTM" often leave me awestruck. Keep up the good work guys!
