  1. Yes I mentioned that same station before. It really caught my attention. I know that in my first post I said my I wanted a soldering station around $80. I saw that most good soldering stations start at 100 then go up from there. Well now I have decided to spend a bit more than 100. I found 2 more solder stations that caught my attention while I was writing this reply. Links are here Tenma Ameritronics Now I have three to choose from. These 2 plus the Weller soldering station. Can't decide. Another thing I heard about was lead free solder. I'm guessing its better and safer for our health and the enviorment. But do all the soldering stations work well with it?
  2. Well I've been checking out more solder stations and found this one by Weller. WESD51 Its not too expensive and I think it reliable since its a Weller. Plus it has a temperature control and digital display.
  3. Ah yes. How could I forget the Xytronic solder station from guitar fetish. Its good to know that your experience went well with it fookgub. I was thinking about buying it a while back when I started soldering. But my prof. said just buy one from radioshack and now I'm here. I was searching around for other solder stations and found more than I expected. I read somewhere that the ceramic tips heat up in minute or so. Not sure if thats true, but sounds better than waiting 12 minutes. Also, I think the price went up on the xytronic at guitar fetish. Not really sure but if it has worked for you fookgub then its worth the 85 bucks. Anyone else out there with a solder station similar to the one in guitar fetish, that can give me there opinion on what should I buy. If not, I'll just buy the xytronic. Thanks everyone
  4. Hello everyone, I have been looking to get a new soldering iron station. I know what some of you might say "just buy a cheap one they will do the job". Well, I have owned one of those regular radioshack soldering irons with the holder and my experience with it is not so great. First off, the holder would sometimes tip over (don't ask it has happened). Then, when the tip wore out and replaced it, the new tip would not screw in completely. I thought it was the tip so I got it replaced. When I got home and screwed it in, same story. So what I decided to do was get some pliers and screw it in the hard way. I ruined the tip. So now I'm done with the soldering irons from radioshack. I want to buy a soldering station from ebay. There's this one for a good price. soldering iron station . But I'm not sure if there is a difference with the ceramic tips. I want to know if there is someone out there with some experience with this solder station or can recommend me another solder station like this with the same price more or less. I really don't want to spend over a hundred. Thanks.
  5. Hey there, what you should do is tin the tips of the pins of the pot that your going to use and the tip of the wire, then put the wire on the pin and heat up the wire until the solder melts and joins them together. hope this helps
  6. Well I have tried smacking it, but that didn't help. The volume just goes out instantly Here is a pic of the transistor I'm talking about and its surroundings. Ok I did the thing you told me about plugging in the effect send to the return jack and the volume did come back. Is this the right way? http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/1809/im000858rv1.jpg Now what? I thought that the problem could be the input jacks and not the effects send - return jacks. Not enough time but I'll try to check. Thanks for your help George
  7. Hi people at PG. I recently received a Peavey Bandit 112 scorpion equipped amp from a close friend. This is one the older models like this one. Well I went home, plugged in my guitar and it was working perfectly, after a while the volume just went all the way down. I tried turning it off then on but i was the same. I had to put the volume close to 10 so I could here something. Then all of a sudden the volume came back. I almost crapped my self because I left it on 10 . I opened up the amp to see if any thing was loose, checked the cables, everything seemed fine. Then I noticed that there was transistor with one of the outer legs not soldered to the board. I was going to solder it back but I wanted to check if it's supposed to be like that or what could have happened. Is that the answer to my problem or could it be some other factor. Can someone out here help me out please. Thanks in advance George
  8. You could check out General Guitar Gadgets They have good projects
  9. WOW I want 1, no wait 2. ok 4 just in case They look real cool. I tried a search on them but couldn't come up with anything. Really would be great if I could get my hands on a few without the guitar. If anyone finds them please post it up.
  10. If you are talking about the one you could see posted up there I redrew it from the one in guitar electronics then stretched out a little so it could be bigger. I used MS paint. hope that answered your question TomN. THanks for all the help guys I went with diagram 2 like unklmickey said. Sounds great . Are there any mods I can do to that diagram? Thanks again
  11. Hello people, I recently bought a new switch from Allparts and searched for a diagram for a HSS 1 vol. 1 tone. and found 3 diagrams. These are the links. Wiring diagram 1 Wiring diagram 2 Wiring diagram 3 All 3 are different including the poles of the 5 way switch. Well in the 2 seymour diagrams the switches line up the same and the switch from guitarelectronics its the opposite. This is the way I have my switch. I dont know if its important the way my switch is compared to the diagram I use. But now I want to know if I can adapt the wiring from the 2 seymour pages to better fit my switch. By this I mean solder the wires from the left side to the right and the right to the left. And which wiring is better and what's the difference?
  12. If you are really tied up with other stuff maybe you can try this out. Groove Tube Fat Finger Guitar Sustain Enhancer not really expensive. I'm not really sure if this will be any good for your situation as i don't own 1 but i just wanted to help. goodluck
  13. you can go here it will tell you exactly how to wire your led's. as for the resistor you can check Radioshack buy that pack of 500 resistors and have plenty for other projects. that pack has the resistor you need (150 ohms) now i didn't understand when you said "radioshack can suck it"what did you mean?Too far or did they not have this pack which contains plenty of 150 ohm resistors. well i hope this helped a little.
  14. ok thanks .Im going to buy the Crunchy PAF High Output Humbucker. Now what is the difference in the vintage set and the overwound set (in the middle of the page)can you give me some refrences on what they sound like. A comparison to a song or something. It would really help. Thanks
  15. WOW Thanks a million Crafty you just opened up my options. Guitarfetish has alot of stuff. Now i dont know if to go with vintage set or overwound set of single coils. And as for the humbucker I cant decide. Can you help me crafty or anyone else thanks again crafty.
  16. Hi guys at Project guitar forum. I'm replacing the pickups on my s/s/h. strat and I'm thinking about buying 2 of theEmg select pickup for strat at Stewmac. and 1 Emg select humbucker. Does anyone know how these pickups sound. I was considering these PU's because of there price. I dont really want to spend alot of money. So any idea to what these PU's sound like??
  17. how many leds??? if u use a 9v battery power source u could use 3 leds in series like so... that is if each led uses 3v to light up.if it uses 3.3 its ok it will still light up. now if u use more leds u will need higher power source. this circuit is a series circuit. you can also make a parallel circuit. you could use more leds in that circuit with a 9v source. if you want more info go to this site.Metkumods i think it will really answer all your questions.
  18. Yes i finally got it working. She plays real good. The sound is kind of harsh. I like it . And elfstone that guitar that you linked the pic of is exactly the same as this one real crazy TWINS. I changed the knobs. They felt real cheap. I bought 2 chrome barrel knobs from allparts. real nice. The only problem I'm Having now is that the frets are buzzing. should i adjust the truss rod?
  19. Well guys here are the pics of the guitar i was fixing and here are some others http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/8158/im000555pp8.jpg http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/4179/im000557lz7.jpg http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/6020/im000550vi7.jpg Tell me what you guys think of it

  22. Hi people at project guitar. I recently received a guitar from my brother in law because he is moving far far away and this guitar is in pretty good shape its not a top of the line guitar but it looks nice. Well i wanted to get new stuff like the 2 pots(vol & tone), 5 way switch, and a capacitor. Now I found a similar diagram for this setup here guitarelectronics.com Everything is the same except for the bridge pickup my pickup has only 3 leads-red,white,and bare. My question is how do i wire everything together. can some one modify this diagram to fit my needs thanks in advance. rock on
  23. I finally bought some of the stuff i need to make the sustainer. Except for the steel blade and the magnets for the driver. where can i buy this? any help??? Another question is what will happen if i use neck pickup thats on my guitar and hook it up to the sustainer circuit?
  24. hi im new here and i spoke with you psw and all of this sustainer talk is really interesting.well i saw 1 of the schematics that you posted up here and cant make out the values of the components. could you post a bigger version. thanks in advance i also have a question about the circuit. you said that its almost the sane as the others ,but it doesnt have a transistor.does this make the circuit better or what type of effect will it have on the sustaining if any
