  1. Thank you for the info cherokee6, I like the open grain on the ebony headstock and I thought about using some sort of oil finish just to protect it and seal it but I think in all practicality it will be best to finish with lacquer like you suggest. Nicko_Lps. Thank you for the info. I was at odds with making the ebony jet black as most do. I thought about leaving it with the grey streaks in it for something different. The streaks are very uniform and do not look too bad but I am still trying to decide if I should stain them black or leave it as is. Thank you for the suggestions on how to stain them I still might do that. This Epiphone body is a Studio and was covered with poly and man was it tough to get off. I ended up sanding it off as nothing would touch it that I could find and I tried a lot. Thanks again guys. M29

  3. Hello, I have an Epiphone LP that had a broken headstock that I replaced. I used an ebony fretboard and decided to also put an ebony overlay on the headstock because I really like the look of the bare ebony. My question is...What kind of finish would you suggest to put over the ebony overlay? Also the ebony fingerboard? I have stripped the poly off the body/neck and am going to finish it with nitro lacquer. It will be black with a yellow to red to black sunburst on the top. Should I tape off the thin edge of the ebony laminate to keep it bare on the side of the headstock or should I paint right up to the top edge black with the rest of the neck and body? Here is an image, I have since fretted the board and am ready to paint. Thank you for your time and help. M29
  4. Hello, I did a search of the site but could not find what I was looking for. My question is do you know if Stewmac's binding channel router attachement for the Dremel will fit a 300 series Dremel? Thank you for your time and help. M29
  5. Thank you MiKro and j. pierce. I kind of wanted to stay with the neck plate but maybe ferrules might be better. I have a Warmoth body that I am ready to finish but I am considreing a contoured heel and from what I have seen they just do a mild angle using a neck plate. Your link with pictures of neck heels is great j. pierce. I forgot all about doing a google (image) search. Thank you very much. This is the body I got from Warmoth. And here is a better shot of the heel that I want to contour. MiKro: I do plan to build a neck through on my next project. Thank you for the info. Thank you guys for your time and help. M29
  6. Hello, I am going to do a contoured heel on a Jazzmaster style body and had a question. I did a search on this but didn't find what I was looking for. My question is, if I contour the body will I use the same (verticle) hole pattern as the original? If I do this won't the screws set awkward in the chamfered holes of the neck plate? I realize I will have to use shorter screws on the one side but I am not sure whether I will have to drill the screw holes at an angle so they match up with the neck plate chamfers or do you just use the original holes. It appears to me that the screws heads will stick up off the plate to one side with the original holes. This may cause you to catch your hand on the edge of the screws. Your help is greatly appriciated. M29
