I'm no builder, but I do play piano, and I can't personally think on a better tonewood .....
the older the better IMO..GO for it...
worse that can come out of it...you get some wood, some wire, and some misc parts you can resell.
if the material is thick enough, dry enough, and wide enough, and if it's of good quality ...make it from whatever you want.....go for it.....
some of the best woods are used to make furniture....
keep us posted.
don't chance it.....there is way way too much work in your guitar to have it to not sound right. You will want to show it off, and someone who can really play well will know there is something not right....
" your reputation is worth more than the time if would take to either re-do it or purchase a premade one."
I have been using Mister Clean majic erasers to take crud off the metal, and I use it to wipe the body and neck..seems to remove oils from hands and other crud rather well.....plus seems to remove the residue from cigarette smoke tha inevitably gets on my guitars from playing bars.../ to " polish" metal I use zims metal polish..
okay, agreed......I won't touch it.lol......exactly why I made the thread....where I'm at there isn't too many people with knowledge to discuss with..( most repair shops here are out to make a fast buck..) ....
I am glad I made the thread....
I will have to source out some replacement machine heads, or try to locate rebuilding parts as these are fairly worn....
any info would be greatly appreciated...
bahaha the heatgun....that's for a newer Ibanez for my kid...wants it " plum purple...ewwww"
heck no....I looked for 15 plus years for this one.....it's getting burried right next to me...." so I can play stairway to heaven/ or hell whichever applies..lol"
you can also use a long thin drillbit on a dremel flexshaft....
the shaft is usually very flexible, and will allow you more angle ...
I haven't tried this, just thinking of it as an idea...
I've been playing for about 26-27 years now, and I have exclusively used martin strings for my acoustics and fenders for my electrics...
because I play mostly country music, I play a lot of "clean", Fenders have always treated my sound and my guitars well.
