  1. Not many people like the color, but I'm all about the green. I probably would have never gone there on my own, but now that I have I am really glad for it. Chris, I've got a pretty old Digital Camera too (5 year old model, had it almost 4 years)... there's tape holding the flash card cover closed so the camera will turn on. It was Spencer Seim's beard. I still have some left over. I almost used some of it on the current guitar of the month (it's his too)... I just couldn't bring myself to cover and of that pretty wood.
  2. I think the thin euc guitar that is winning now will be an anonmoly. That thing has amazed pretty much everyone who's seen it since I started it probably 1.5 years ago. There might be some kind of spirits in the woods or something. I don't think my other stuff will be so popular.
  3. What the heck, this is the last one I'll be able to finish for a while since I'm moving my shop in May. SF3 1st Singlecut Progression 2-Piece Alder Body Round Over Comfort Carve Top and Back Solid Olive Green Gloss Polyester Finish 25.5" Scale Length Neck Wood 5 Piece Flame Maple/Wenge Wenge Fingerboard 2mm Pearl Side Dots 24 Jumbo Stainless Steel Frets 12" Radius Fingerboard Standard/Round "C" Neck Profile 2 Way Adjustable Truss Rod Zerofret & Locking Floyd Rose Nut Clear Gloss Polyester Neck Finish Black Hardware Finish EMG Humbucking Pickups Schaller Locking Strap Buttons AMB Headless Bridge Roland Permanent Synth Installation
  4. Here's my favorite blurb about sustain ever from the Carl Thompson tribute site.
  5. I used to use a lot of barrel jacks and even one of those was too big to fit in the side of the instrument safely. Plus there was no way to get your hand or any tool inside to tighten the nut... it would have to be glued in. I don't think I'll have to figure my way out of this one. I'm not going to make a guitar anywhere near as thin again. It's very comfortable to play and I'm almost certain it's the thinnest guitar ever made... but it was also a ton more work than I would want to do on every instrument. Just another thing to try and learn from.
  6. Trust me, that thing really bugs me too. The problem is the side of the guitar where I would normal put in a side mount jack is only .5" thick (read: as thick as the strap button) so the output jack options were extremely limited. The angle strat plate was the only useable option I know of since the hollow area inside was so tight.
  7. Lots of nice stuff. I voted for SwedishLuthier's bass. Nice finish and cool shape!
  8. Many years ago I cracked the back of a thin guitar while pushing in a bridge post. I guess you're not going to be that thin but the depth of your hardware mounting stuff or trem springs, etc are things to keep in mind.
  9. The SF3 I posted in the May Guitar of the Month thread is about 1/2" thick along the edges and hollow. The top is about 3/4" thick bookmatched. The back is a little over 3/4" thick bookmatched. The neck is thin and light. The entire guitar only weighs 5.25 pounds (with heavy brass bridge/knobs) so being neck heavy isn't really an issue. You have to be careful selecting your hardware/electronics but thin guitars are not impossible to build.
  10. Hmmmmm, I never noticed. The customer mentioned wanting a floyd nut way before we ordered parts so when the headpiece came I took one look at it and tossed it in a box. It was too narrow and WAY too tall to match my neck profile anyway, but it is good to know they can use normal strings for future reference. I don't think I'd even build a neck anywhere close to those dimensions but it's good to have the facts straight. Thanks, mattia.
  11. I got the ABM headless gear from Allparts. It comes with a headpiece for double ball end strings but the customer wanted to be able to use normal strings. We ended up going with the locking floyd nut out of convenience. Teuffel does some neat stuff for sure.
  12. Here's the guitar this pedal is going with. Getting pretty close to being finished. http://www.scottfrench.com/Gallery/In%20Pr...20Guitar/10.jpg http://www.scottfrench.com/Gallery/In%20Pr...20Guitar/09.jpg http://www.scottfrench.com/Gallery/In%20Pr...20Guitar/08.jpg PICS TOO BIG< AND ONLY ONE PIC PER POST AS PER FORUM RULES
  13. I have no idea what's in this thing. Basically when I dropped of Spencer's new guitar I got to check out another pedal Ben made and wanted to get something similar. This is what Ben came up with. I can ask him what the guts are all about but I don't know enough about this stuff to really get into it. I should point out the controls on the pedal are Volume Knob, Sensitivity Knob, EQ/Frequency Knob, Tone Switch, and Oscillator Sound Switch. Those clips were recorded with the volume around 2. Thanks, I posted that guitar on the guitar of the month post: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=22620
  14. http://www.scottfrench.com/images/linked/pedal/03.jpg http://www.scottfrench.com/images/linked/pedal/04.jpg http://www.scottfrench.com/images/linked/pedal/01.jpg Ben made all the guts for this then I made the case and put it all together. We made this as a present for one of my customers who's guitar is very late. The finish/hardware matches his guitar and I know he is a pedal head so I'm hoping he will really enjoy it. Here's two videos of me messing around on bass just tweaking knobs and finding weird sounds. http://www.scottfrench.com/images/linked/pedal/MVI_2385.AVI http://www.scottfrench.com/images/linked/pedal/MVI_2386.AVI This is very nice, but can you resize the pics and re-load them again?

  16. Actually I clicked around the links you gave me to check things out then closeed it all down. I didn't join until this thread popped up in my site's weblogs. Wanted to clear some stuff up! Thanks for started the thread!
  17. It can be tough, but it's not even close to impossible. Many old archtop and hollowbody electrics didn't have any back access and had to be fed through the pickups routes then manipulated through the f-holes. I guess this is one step harder since I don't have f-holes but after doing it a few times it's still pretty easy. Some people use hollow tubes, I use wires fed through the pot holes. You need to plan ahead and build the wiring harness in a way that makes feeding it through possible. Not too difficult, but it takes planning. FYI: the reason a lot of the ideas don't match the guitars is because the ideas are new and the guitars on the site are old. New guitars will match as many of the new ideas and my customers will allow but at this point I am still finishing off some stuff I started before a lot of these plans were layed. RE: Noise and tools... you have to chose you battles. Doing all the planing by hand intead of using a sander or grinder gives you a sore hand/arm. I can deal with that (and some planing blisters) but I'd rather sit through 15 minutes of router noise than 2 hours of gouging. Thanks for the interest everyone.
