  1. Sorry Im not to sure what you mean. Are you saying that just set it up however with the bridge and then mark the notes in? I was planning to have the bridge so that it could be moved closer to or further away from the body so that the action could be adjusted, will this throw out the note markings? Also for the pulley, what material? I assume no metal. -Dream
  2. You either fret the thing or you use the lever, not both at once. The lever has a stop position where it returns to each time it is released. I wasnt planning to fret it but I was planning to have markers where frets would be, I guess I'd need to intonate it then. -Dream
  3. I've looked into building a Whamola. Wiki Whamola Whamola Picture More About The Whamola So far what I have is. 50mm Alloy Square Pipe for the body Rosewood for the fretboard For the bridge Im unsure about whether or not to actually have a bridge (do I need to intonate a one string bass?) or just to have the string attached to a point where the bridge would be. For the bridge I was going to use two right angle brackets with a piece of steel between them and bolted to them, the idea being that the string attaches to the piece of steel and I can unbolt that piece and slide it along the brackets making the string sit closer or further from the fretboard and then bolt it tight again. If I have a bridge it will be a similar thing but with a pulley on the piece of steel as the bridge and then have the string attached somewhere further down. As for attaching the string I was thinking about a bolt with a hole drilled through it, feed the string in and tighten a nut locking it in place. If this is unsuitable then I will find a right angle bracket and just have a small hole in it for the ball end the lock into. For the pulley I was going to have it attached to the body itself and the string runs from the handle through the body over the pulley and down to the bridge. Is it better to have the pulley on the body itself or on the end of the pulley? For the pickup I have an old humbucker lying around. The only problem is the the string would have to run between the pole (it would be mounted vertically to fit). Will this still work? Thanks In Advance
  4. I do have access to compressors and spray guns if that would make it easier, Just use the schools shop room. -Dream
  5. I have come across a Jazz Bass body that is missing tuners, bridge and the electronics looks fairly shot. Apart from a few dings the body itself is fine and the neck is still fine (no bows etc). I have been loitering here for a while and decided to restore a guitar before trying to build one and since I picked this body up for $20 AUD I figure if I make a mistake it wont matter that much. I have a few questions about what I want to do with the guitar though. What is the best way to strip the body? Heat, Chemicals or Sanding I want a dark black gloss finish, What is the best thing to use? Keep in mind I have no painting experience. I also want to paint the headstock, I would fix the neck up (it has a couple of dings in the back) but I dont want to have to take of the fingerboard etc. I assume I can mask off the neck and just paint the headstock. While painting the headstock I was wondering if I could cut a little bit out of it, it is a fender style headstock and I want to remove the right hand side (the round bit at the top and the point off to the side, Can this be done I have come accross some bridges at the local music store but im not sure how to line them up on the body Any help is appreciated -Dream

  7. I love the Fly and the Iceman, I went with the Iceman more because I cant afford a Fly. Just put a IC200 in suburst (like the picture that psw posted) on layby . I think I got a good price. $639 Austrlian Dollars. Also just out of curiosity could you please also email those fly and iceman outlines/templates at ulithiba@hotmail.com Thanks -Dream Also if anyone has a 1:1 template or even an outline of a Parker Fly can they please send it to me, Im trying to build a lookalike body to use with an old bass neck that I have to make a fly bass.
  8. Looks awesome, Leave it natural. -Dream
  9. I would put on as many strings as I could if I wasnt limited by how much money I have to spend, Im usually really skint for cash. Im getting this bass for cheap from my school, They have stripped it for parts so its missing bridge, 2 tuners and most electronics. As for string spacing it most likely wont bother me because I have small fingers anyway and sometimes struggle to reach certain frets on a usual bass. Well I suppose I will give this a go, The only thing im wondering is if it dosent seem to be going well can I just realign the 5 string bridge and use it for 4 strings only? If I go through with this conversion will the EMG select bass humbucker still work? Does it use a bar magnet so string spacing dosent matter or will I have to look into it further Also I know I have posted this already but if someone has succesfully done this can they please let me know how it went -Dream
  10. And are there any tutorials on this anywhere. Also anyone who has done this please let me know how it went -Dream
  11. Is it just a case of adding the tuner, changing the bridge and nut or is it more complicated than that. Is it practical of to fiddly to play -Dream
  12. Depends, for originality cover it with vinyl, Stain would look good but I would assume the cabinet is MDF and that would not work. Maybe jsut give it a few coats with some spray paint? -Dream

  14. What are they cons and anything else I should know. I want to use a 100k dual gang pot for blend, Will 100k work? -Dream
  15. Thanks for clearing that up, I didint realise that they were one in the same. -Dream
  16. Really, So why are there specific pots for sale as blend pots if a dual gang pot will work the same? -Dream
  17. If you take a dual gang pot and wire up one pickup so that its turned down when its turned left and wire the other one the opposite way so its turned down when its turned right? -Dream
  18. I put nylons on a steel stringer. The only problem I had was a hell of a lot of fret buzz. -Dream
  19. Will Sperzel locking tuners fit straight into an Ibanez IC200 without the need for new holes? -Dream
  20. I recently put an EMG H4 humbucker in my guitar. I mainly play metal and this fits the profile fine. I dont think its all that much more than the selects either. -Dream
  21. Another thing I found for a counter is to solder the reed switch in place of the equals button on a cheap calculator, press 1 + 1 then start spinning. Found that here by the way: http://galileo.spaceports.com/~fishbake/index.html -Dream
