  1. Fantastic tut! And funny too But wasn't the consensus last time I checked saying that spruce shouldn't be used to a guitar body?
  2. Ergonomics include weight as well. Headless guitar is better-balanced >> more ergonomic. Also, "ergonomic" is just fun to say. Makes you sound wicked smaht. I am totally down for one of these when a production run comes around. The only undesirable thing I can see with regards to this project is the route required to reach for the tuning knobs. Is this only because of the lack of neck angle? As far as aesthetics, the larger route might be a tough sell. Only meant to be constructive Keep up the innovation!
  3. Big color difference in the tops between pics, eh?
  4. I don't wanna hear no sass from you, Wez My underground laboratory has many an unmarked, brownish bottle! Thanks for the info, Metalhead! I'm always looking for more info about oiling; it's the one part I really want to improve upon. I want to do a more satin, un-grainfilled look for my next build.
  5. Great build! Body and neck design flow very nicely. I definitely should have commented on this earlier but they're winners in my book. What kind of oil are you using? What's your finishing process like?
  6. Wow, fantastic Simo! Is the beast hollow/chambered on the inside? Quite a big roundover too, but it adds another dimension to the edges of the top wood. Love it!
  7. haha no, just pointing it out USB2 is better on paper, but FW has faster real-world speeds, but that's not here nor there. Maybe I should just try it out and see what happens... Now, to find free time to dedicate to music-makin'...
  8. Hey all! For mah burfday, my Dad bought me a 500GB firewire external. I'm planning on splitting it in half and using half for Time Machine, while transporting my software instruments onto the other half. I didn't know what the general consensus was with recording from an external. I know lots of people bounce to/record onto an external. I'm just looking to free up space on my Mac and take off everything that I'm probably not going to use while on the train or hanging out at a friend's. I have: -Stormdrum -Kontakt -Superior Drummer 2 and DFH -Quantum Leap Gold I just didn't know if performance/lag/latency would be affected by dumping the samples over to an external. If it makes any difference, I'm recording through a Fast Track Pro.
  9. I can definitely see The Boss playing something like this.
  10. Is it too late to jump in on this one? I vote take the top and make a jazz box out of it. Leave the voids in for the soundholes On a related topic, the grayblue color would go fantastically with a "weathered" hardware scheme like Orgmorg has done in the past.
  11. Agreed, very clean. I like how it's coming together thus far. Where did you get that set of plans? They look very very detailed, professional. A nice buy! ::EDIT:: Should've read the post first. You MADE those templates? Them's very nice. I resorted to buying a $30 beater body to make mine, but you clearly already have one kicking around.
  12. I'm thinking about using that jack design for my latest build. Just need to mock it up and find out where the cord won't poke me. Was thinking about making my own plate like Perry did on the Vine and one of his DC's, but drilling into the body with a Forstner bit at a 60 degree angle and expecting everything to go peachy is absurd with my track record Not to mention having to build my own plate. Looking good, Matt! The thing is just BIG all-around!
  13. I cringe at the sound/feel of metal strings on a metal fretboard..... Even flatwounds... With nylon strings, you might be on to something, though. I really got to applaud the choice for a ten-string because it just looks so natural to be on a build like this, as the body shape is similar to the Bich. Best of luck!
  14. ...and I'm sure people who aren't on the PG boards or "in the know" about the Australian luthierie (sp?) scene will attribute it to someone else anyways @Narcissism: Perry mentioned the offset scalloping in a thread a while ago, as well as in one of his video tutorials. It basically boiled down to why put scallops on parts of the fretboard that you're not going to need it on anyways? A take-away-as-little-wood-as-necessary thing.
  15. This recent trend in this guitar shape needs to stop. It's killing me. In related news, that is a beautiful piece of cherry! I've been debating for a time to grab cherry for my body wood instead of mahog, because it just looks nice. I'm glad you have access to trees that you can chop at a whim, Org
  16. Hmm.... I personally am not a fan of something that looks like it would stick up from the face of the guitar so much. I don't much care for TOMs on an angled neck, even. I think the design of the original is great, nice and low-profile, simple. I don't use a trem much at all anymore, but I'm trying to see the other side of the coin. I read your website on this update; do you think you could explain a bit more about how your second gen trem would alleviate the intonation problem more than the first design?
  17. I am NOT getting sick of your dragons, sir. I think the way you worked the art into the Warrior shape is masterful! It flows wonderfully.
  18. The pickups on the guitar look markedly different from the smaller picture of the single. Are the bobbins colored? If the bobbins are indeed that amber/red color, a cherry wash for the guitar would look awesome! Even if they weren't, the darker color of the stain will accent the chrome parts, I feel. So I guess either way I'd go with the red
  19. Blinkknot and Jon, I like both of your first builds! They're excellent designs (except yours, Jon, but a gloss black pickguard is a negative 45 points ). I wish I had a better pic of my first to offer, but: here it is smudged and dirty after a few months of having it in the dorm. As far as I'm concerned, the second one is light-years ahead of it, and the third will be much better even than the second! @John: I feel that 4th edition made the system play a lot like World of Warcraft. I'm still trying to get a handle on it, but I'm sticking with 3.5 for an unspecified time hahaha. I also have my doubts about Diablo III. Feels like the same thing is happening to it.
  20. 1 or 3 please Man you guys wish I were back at the shop...
  21. Red Dragon casts Prismatic Shield! Geeky, I know. I've been in a dice deficit for a few months. How was the carve on the done? Some parts look drastically thicker than a regular guitar.
  22. Thanks, guys! @Jon: I'll definitely have to try importing a full MIDI track into DFH. As of now, I've only been using it to click on the drums and make a funky tune! Maybe I should read the manual I downloaded... @Unrealize: Yeah, I could probably get away with using SD2 in Fruityloops, but the problem is, I have a Mac, and FL is only for PC. Rather than restarting my laptop over and over again and bouncing back and forth between operating systems, I thought it would be easier to find a program that fulfills the same function, but works for my Mac. It's too bad, because FL is totally my style of program, it's exactly how I like to "see" my drums.
  23. I'd definitely be up for trying that, Jon! Thanks a bunch for the info. I've been trying to track down some sequencers that work with Macs. I grabbed my uncle's (a FL user) set of drum sounds from his library. While not stellar, they are definitely passable, and work with Ultrabeat. I don't know why the drum samples from DFH didn't work, seeing as they're wav.
  24. Hey all, I'm trying out Logic and Superior Drummer 2, and am wondering if anyone had any experience combining the two. I'm looking for a way to take the single notes/hits and maybe use them in a sequencer/step grid format, a'la Fruity Loops. I am very much a "clicker" when it comes to drums, not at all a keyboard/MIDI controller guy, and being no drummer and knowing no drummers, wanted to see if I could get a serviceable backing track or two to toss into Logic or Pro Tools. The only drum writing experience I've had on the computer has been using MIDI drums like Cakewalk, or a setup like Fruity Loops, so I'm looking to maybe use SD2 in that vein. I'm still not as good at tracking down files in Mac as I am in Windows, but I ended up finding where the packets installed to. The Superior Drummer sounds are in .OBW format, and are upwards of 1GB large. The Drumkit From Hell sound files are in wav, but don't play in iTunes or any other player, and they won't drag into Ultrabeat to use as a sample. I'm thinking that my hopes of using the program as I'd dreamed is diminishing, but I just figured I'd ask the masses to see if they'd used it like I'm describing here. Thanks!
