  1. I think that 350 is about average right now for the MIJ ones, I was thinking that they will top out at $500. I would go to the warmoth website and check outthe jazzmaster routes to see what you are in for. I will try to get a pic of the inside of my Jagmaster for comparison.
  2. It would devalue the guitar if it were routed. How much if anything these guitars will be worth is up in the air. I suspect they will stay around the $500 mark as a decent quality players instrument. If you really want the jazzmaster sound it would probably be a lot cheaper and easier in the end to just get a second hand jazzmaster.
  3. The pickups are a different size, in the jagmaster they are regular humbuckers, the jazzmaster has huge single coils. The jagmaster has none of the switches on the upper bout that the jazzmaster has, thus none of the routes. The Jazzmaster pickgaurd has holes for the bridge piece holding the saddles, whereas the jagmaster bridge stops at the edge of the tremelo plate.
  4. Jazzmaster pickups will require body routing and probably a custom pickgaurd. I thought you were just talking about another jagmaster pickguard to change the color. You might be able to fit a set of jazzmaster pickups into a cutup jagmaster pickgaurd without crazy gaps. I am not sure. I have a regular jazzmaster pickgaurd somewhere I can look into it, but it would be easier to find a nice vintage wound set of standard sized humbuckers.
  5. If you are swapping a vista series pickguard on a standard series it shouldn't be a big deal at all, you may have to move over a couple of screws but the old holes will be covered up. You might not even have to do that. The pickups are cheap, they are alright but I will probably eventually swap out to seymore duncan pickups since the body and neck are so damned comfortable. The tuning keys will probably eventually need swapped, but they are miles ahead of the 80s and 90s squires, I have had the same ones on for about 4 years with no troubles, aside from my snapping one off throwing my guitar at the amp and then onto the floor.
  6. Mine is one of the black sparkle ones, and I wasn't too thrilled about the color, but I am used to it now. The bridge could be changed, but it would be a lot of work, the jazzmaster bridge mounts in a wierd shaped hole that doesn't go all the way through like a strat bridge. I would think you would almost have to plug the entire bridge route and start over to have it work. The strat bridge was one of the things I loved about the jagmaster, I have never played a mustang or jaguar/jazzmaster that felt 'solid' or held its tuning.
  7. I own one of the newer ones, it was made in China. I don't see why you are so opposed to the made in china ones. I could see it if it was an ethical issue over the labor, but as for quality, a CNC machine in China is just as good as one in Japan. The fit and finish on mine is excellent and the action was nice and low out of the box. I couldn't think of anything else wrong with it aside from cheap hardware, but this is common to everything but the expensive US Models. PS I'm not trying to start an arguement, just curious.
  8. You should never repaint or sand a guitar in the nude. I am not sure natural would look too great. God only knows what is lurking under those dark edges.
  9. I recently got their SG copy at Sam Ash for like $170. I really like it for the price. Great for a fun easy fix it up project. Passable as it is. The pickups and pots aren't going to be in there forever, but in all honesty they are fine for most uses assuming you aren't taking it into the studio in the near future. I'd like to see some pics of the LP you picked up.
