  1. Out of curiosity, why did you choose to go with 28" scale? Do you play mostly metal, and wanted that darker, throatier, more evil sound? but I love the look of that axe! the carve looks death-defying! but I really think you should go with something translucent for the finish.
  2. I am building an SG copy, but to my specific standards. I am still unsure as to how wire the electronics the way I want them... not quite standard. So, here it goes: I will have a '59 custom in the neck, a Gibson P94 in the middle, and a JB in the neck, I will have a separate tone and volume pot for each, and I want the volume pot of each, which will be a push-pull, to act as an on/off switch for each individual pickup. Is this possible, and if so, how do I go about wiring this. I have a basic knowledge of reading wiring schematics, but am not completely sure of myself, so words are also good along with the schematics. Thank you in advance!
  3. Umm. Hate to say this, but don't you need someway to lay a cover over your control cavity? usually they curve in and out, so that the cover rests on top, flush with the surface, then screwed in, from your picture it looks like that may have been overlooked. you could glue in some pieces, and that might work. but otherwise, it looks good! definitely much cleaner routs than mine! mine are too horrible to post. (First time)
  4. Looks like Godin and I are the only minors of the group so far! Ha, and I'm 16 too. 17 in March tho.
  5. looks good! seems to have been a successful project! hope you enjoy your hard work!
  6. I like it! Well, of course, I like all of your guitars! I can assue you're going to paint this one flat black? I think it will look sick, man. Keep up the amazing work!
  7. Thats the trem I bought. A Breeze to rout! but I got it for $165 at this place. Good service, quick shipping. Highly reccomended
  8. I got a Kahler 7300 (Hybrid) for $160ish + shipping. Website:Kahler Trem
  9. That guitar is HOT! I love it! You make me want to make a semihollow! nice work!
  10. Personally, I love the fanned fret idea. I've been wanting to try one out to see if I would make one. Although I don't particularly like 7/8 Strings, (don't fit my playing style, 6 strings is more than enough, ) I think this will look killer when it's done!
  11. I'm not a wiring expert, and I'm not here to tell you if your drawing is right, cause I don't know myself! but I will say that if someone on this board knows, they really should reply, I have been in the same situation as you. I feel your pain.
  12. I think it would look kick-ass with a kahler on there, but, hey thats just me! I'm a bit biased... lol.
  13. I say go for it! if it doesn't sound right, how hard is it to replace a pickup! If it turns out amazing, thats one more notch under your belt and one more thing to brag about!
  14. Ok. I was planning on using Sperzel Trim-Loks, I don't think they are overly light, but my neck is pretty thin, thinner than a normal SG, but not as thin as an Ibanez Wizard or anything like that. But seriously, I really need a Template for the old, wide gibson headstock, so can anyone let me know if you have one?
  15. I began the routing today. Finished bridge/trem rout, and began the pickup routs. end of next week I'm going to buy the electronic components from stew-mac, and once they arrive, I am going to begin routing the control cavity. I'll post pics when routing is done (sometime next week or so)
  16. I really like how the black pickup covers go with the gold rings. All seems well built and tied together. Please Please Please, do a natural finish or at the least DONT PAINT IT !!!!!
  17. I know Fender has a special edition or something where they use silver leaf, so I say, read up on leafing techniques, and go for it!
  18. I don't know. I like the hybrids, they seem to be really unique, the rest i'm not overly enthused about.
  19. If Pictures say a thousand words, A website says a million: Behold
  20. Find one that has a flat bottom. I bought mine from Rockler: Flat Face Spokeshave
  21. A good spokeshave will really cut down on the time it'll take you to shave it down. after that, sand smooth, and finish.
  22. Ok, but should I do the old Gibson headstock, wide and cool looking, but a bit heavy, or the new gibson which is narrow and (IMO) kinda weird looking, but balanced? BTW, Does anyone have a 61 SG Headstock Template (The wide one) I have the narrow one, and it just looks out of place. Thx.
  23. Here's a big tip. When it comes time to do the neck, get a spokeshave. It will help LOADS in the carving time. I had the same experience you had with curves just sort of appearing naturally, and the spokeshave stays true to that. Best $25 I ever spent. Hope that helps. Good luck! Looks Good!
  24. Ok. Sorry for not posting pics, but I've been hard at work bevelling the edges. Now, the bevels are deeper than those of a standard SG, cause that's how I wanted it. Low and behold, today... the BRIDGE/TREM ARRIVED! In all of it's shiny glory, it's my new Kahler 7300 Hybrid Bridge System! Holy Cow, I already love it! BTW, I have decided to go with a PRS-style headstock. I think it is a little more attractive and less traditional. Pics: * Will be posted as soon as camera is done charging!!! *
  25. That reminds me of my first restoration. It was a strat knockoff, and I trimmed the horns to sharpen them, making the angles on the top and bottom of them flat. It wasn't great, but not bad for my first project and doing without a bandsaw. It looks like yours will turn out better. Post pics when finished!
