  1. So here's a second try at templating my carve. I'm going for a more PRS style carve with a LP style body -- sorta like the Tremonti. BAM Let me know if you have any comments/concerns! Thanks!
  2. What do you guys think of this: http://www.newwoodworker.com/guidebush.html Combined with Setch's method, seems fool proof.
  3. Good idea What do you do for carves, if you don't mind me asking?
  4. Well, my plan was to first turn each into a ply template, then each template can by clamped to the top as I route it, each one getting progressivly smaller as I get closer to the center of the body...I hope that makes sense :\ It would be a little more expensive, having to make a ply template out of each tier, but much more acurate. So that with a handy dandy sander should turn out a nice carve
  5. So, I've finished a template for my body and a template for my top carve. I just wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions/could see any issues with it before I got too far. I was thinking the back will be Mahogany and the top Maple. The back: 1" and the top: 1/2", thus the whole body would be 1.5" before the top is sanded. The width is that of a standard LP, 17.25" long and 12.75" wide. I'm not sure if this is the most accepted method for outlineing the carve for a top, but the idea came from John Fisher's LP build. Anyway, here goes: ** PLEASE NOTE: These files are large as they are full size. If you guys want smaller ones, I'll try 'n shrink 'em. ** The Template for the Body The Template for the top with carve outline Thanks to anyone who has anything to say!!
  6. I actually just found out I have access to a CNC through the university i'm attending, so if you happen to be in that kinda position, I would recommend you look there
  7. So, I'm planning out my first build...!!! I'm wondering if I should go with bolt on or set neck. I'm planning on buying a neck as I havn't done any real wood work in a few years and I don't want to screw that part up. I'm really leaning towards set, however it seems bolt ons are easier to come by... Any suggestions?
  8. Yes. 2 inch thick would be 8/4 rough. Thanks so much!! You're awesome!
  9. So then, in my Mahogany example, they're saying "13.71 for 1 board foot, 2 inches thick"?
  10. So, I'm kinda slow I suppose... How do I read wood catalogues exactly? For instance at A&M Wood, this MAhogany just says 2" - $13.71. What does that mean?? Is that per thick/per board foot? So if I wanted a, say, 24" x 6" slab, what would that cost? Also, what about when a site says "Dimensions offered: 4/4", how do I read that/what does it mean? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I can't really find any answers anywhere...when I need wood, I go down to the local lumber yard, I've never had to order wood before... Anywho, thanks for anything you can offer!
  11. These are awesome! Only other question I have: How much taller is the center of the top then the edge of the top? I found http://members.fortunecity.com/jtfish/lpc/shaping.htm for info on how to shape the ttop, it doesn't look too horribly difficult. I was thinking 1/2" difference is about what to expect...
  12. Hey all, Anyone know where I can find resources/info about PRS Custom 24 dimensions? I figured that atleast a search on this forum, if not on Google, would turn up something worth while, but apparently I was mistaken. I'm hoping to "copy" the body style for my project and I have some sketches done (go go Illustrator!). Since they're to scale, if I can even just get a width or length, I would be set!
  13. Hey everyone, I'm new to these forums! I've been playing for a long time but I havn't ever built one, so I figured it would be a fun project ! So, I never considered it before, but does the wood of an electric body actually influence the tone? I've always figured it was the electronics, but . . .
