Hello, i'm new to the forum.
First of all, let me say that i'm really impressed, on this board there are a lot of skilled people, for what i could read from other threads.I saw a lot of wonderful jobs. And this is the reason why i'm asking here
I would like to make a body for my ibanez rg, an exact copy, AANJ pocket and HSH configuration. So i was searching the net for some good wood, my idea was a mahogany body and maple quilted top.
I will route the body with a CNC, so basically i can route any shape i want. But since i would like an exact copy, il would be a flat top and not a carved one.Next, i don't want a veener, i want some real top.
The problem is that i have no tools(steams etc) and neither skills to bent a 1/4'' maple top over the arm contour. So the only way is to use a top thick enough to shape the contour, at least 3/4''.Since this would be a flat top, there will be a LOT of maple over the mahogany, and i have no idea of the tone of this combination of wood's thickness. All the mahogany/maple guitar that i've played was carved or bent top (tom anderson i.e).
What do you think of these woods combination? What about the tone? And the weight?
And also, i'm from Italy, so my post is full of errors, please forgive me
