  1. Hey, Few quick ones: 1) When glueing cracks, what glue is recommended for the job? 2) Is replacing a nut an easy enough job for someone with no guitar repair experience? 3) What's the best thing to use in order to remove bridge posts from the body? Thanks!
  2. I've got a Korg GA-30 handheld tuner and I'm curious to know what the exact string tunings are each time I press the "Flat" button. I'm assuming that each time i press it, the tuning drops a half step. I'd like to verify this with someone and also, if I could get the string tunings at setting that would be killer. Thanks!
  3. Just one more question: When I'm playing I can notice an echo through the body. I traced it to the springs for the Floyd and when I put my hand on it the ringing stops. Any recommended home remedies to use for this while playing? I was thinking a little foam padding but once again I'm open to suggestions.
  4. Yeah, the one I have is a black version of the Rhodes body. I read the same thing that Ibanez did their own bridges but there are no distinguishing marks or logos from Ibanez on the bridge to specify that. I guess its just the same for every company that buys a license for the Floyd. That Ibanez setup page is great. Thanks for the feedback!
  5. I recently got a friend of mine to part with his PR 2660 so that I could take it for a test drive in the hopes that I would like it enough to take it off his hands. However, I've got a couple problems that I was hoping someone might be able to help me with: 1) The bridge is only a Licensed Floyd and not a true Floyd. I realize that this is a whole other topic all together but I was hoping someone could provide me a link for a setup tutorial. There is considerable fret buzzing going on all over the fretboard that I need to correct and this is my first experience with these bridges. 2) Does anyone have a reference for the guitar specs? ie. body type, pickup specs, etc.. 3) Anyone have any experience with these or know someone that does and can offer some tips or advice? Thanks in advance!
  6. Right on. Yeah, I've gotta Marshall 1960 4x12 myself and I have no complaints about it. Thanks for the suggestion!
  7. Greetings fellow Mesaheads! I was just curious if anyone could offer me any suggestions on different settings that they're using in regards to how you've got your amp set up. I like to switch things up once and a while and just thought I'd get some input or suggestions. Thanks!
  8. Hey, I'm looking for suggestions on what is required for a basic guitar recording setup. I'm just looking to lay down some ideas and riffs as they come to me and would like a quick and easy setup process. I've got a Mesa Dual Rectifier and a Marshall 4x12 cabinet and a pretty dated computer with pretty minimal inputs. (3 USB and mic in) Hardware/Software ideas are all welcome. Thanks!
  9. Wow, what an opportunity for soooo many answers. In my opinion, check every one of your favorite guitar players setup first. Then, hit up their respective pickup manufacturers website. Most companies now offer demos of their pickups online. Personally, I use an active EMG 81/85 setup which is pretty standard by "enamle removing" guys like Zakk Wylde and Kerry King. But on the other side of the coin, Seymour Duncan offers some great passive pickup combo packs like the JB/Jazz combo that are very popular on a lot of high end guitars and with players like Dave Mustaine. Like mostly everything regarding guitars, personal preferance is key here. Good luck!
  10. Thanks for the links. The guy who sold it to me only really told me that, "they stopped making them in the 80's" but according to the link I may have a first run on my hands....
  11. Thanks to everyone for the advice, but I have another "operation" I could use some guidance on regarding the same guitar. The bottom of the guitar is cracked in two places and looks like it sat in water for some time. Also, the RD came with pickups that had extra switch holes that I'm looking to fill in. I was thinking what may work is cutting a template of the outside edges, glueing the cracks, then clamping the template on the guitar. As for the water damage, who knows. Once again, any input is great. Here's the "patient's" ass end...
  12. I was thinking the exact same thing about the frets too. The neck binding seems to almost overlap onto the fretboard and I was wondering if this will be a problem in re-fretting the neck. My next question is, would re-fretting a guitar be a reasonable first project for a rookie such as myself? If so, where do I begin looking to materials and what materials do I need? Once again, thanks for the input.
  13. I'll second that for sure. Well done.
  14. Hey everyone! I'm looking for input on my recently aquired, stripped down axe. The guitar I'm refering to (incase ya missed the title of the topic) is a Gibson RD Custom. I got the thing for $30 from a guy who was gonna toss it out hoping that it was worth saving. The main concern I have is the neck. There are worn down spots all along the neck that are almost grey in colour compared to the amber fretboard and neck. The back of the neck is flawless and I'm mainly concerned with how to go about fixing the fretboard problem. It's also a set neck I believe so I can't simply remove it. I'm looking to maintain the vintage colour throughout the entire guitar also. I'd post pics but my camera is charging at the moment. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
