  1. no no, the bar's wiring was JUNK! I kept getting the **** shocked out of me on the mic.... I finally gave up on it and sang a bit back and louder for this song. Well, it was fine till we plugged in the other amp for the last guitarist, and that just screwed it ALL up. I've realy never had a problem with hum anywhere else, even with more gain than that. I'm impressed with these pickups. Plus, I had my tech install the pickups, but the switch crapped out and I decided to learn how to install my own and learn to solder. Turned out well, I have a switch and it still sounds fine!
  2. I say blah to expensive guitars. Listen to this video of me playing "Texas Flood". This is a Stagg Jazzmaster, which is about 150 USD new (got it for 100 on a clearance), with a set of $50 "GFS 60's repro" pickups, and D'Addario .011 gauge strings. This is all played through the house amp, which was a fender DRRI I believe, either that or a super reverb. Can't remember, it's been a year. Not too bad for at total of $170.
  3. I don't post here much, but definitely go with a sunburst finish on this one to show the crazy grain on that one, and hide the lighter outside wood! But natural would also look damn good as well.
  4. go to http://www.thefenderforum.com/forum/index.php and search hot rod delux problems or repairs in the amp forum, the amps are notorious for frying resistors on the circuit board thanks to overheating, and also the tubes are attached right to the board so if you bump one, you break a solder and bye bye amp. Also, the older models were riddles with cold solder joints. For the money, you can do MUCH better.
  5. haha WAY before Rhodes or Van Halen even thought about it!
  6. Single coils are my pickup of choice for the neck, and low resistance humbuckers for the bridge. I've never tried a P90 guitar though, so I might be in love with a new bridge pickup. Singles in the bridge sound too thin and wimpy for me.
  7. I'm gonna say strat. but I'm going to build a les paul with the strat arm and belly contour so I'll see how that feels!
  8. Do you have it wired to cut out the POS (+) signal chain or short out the POS to the ground (-) ??
  9. either the action is too low or the relief isn't set right. Go to the project guitar homepage and look at their setup guide, it'll tell you how to get your guitar playing perfectly!
  10. hey guys maybe we can do this for a guitar of the year (GOTY) thing or something, I'm in the planning/ gathering parts stage in my build, not sure on the final shape yet, so this would be sweet.
  11. Dragonforce is a fine example of mediocre speed metal. Good STUDIO band, but they're so drunk and high on stage they cant do ****! Herman li has some talent, but he thinks he's better than he is and throws in stuff even he cant play right.
  12. if you're going for blues/darker tones, you more or less want it in the middle-neck positions. Go check out some guitars as xanthus said, and see what you prefer yourself, as what we like might not be what you like.
  13. plastic bin from walmart and an exacto knife. Have fun.
  14. lets see his left hand now! lol he cant
  15. THAT is a cool guitar! Interesting pickup choices too. It's vintage with the hint of modern, very nice!
  16. go over and make sure all the grounds are fine, then check the switch, and make sure the pickup leads arn't all screwed up.
  17. that looks like a really nice project there! Good luck with it! And btw I love your strat and homebuilt amp!
  18. Ok, and you probably don't know, I'm building a strat shaped guitar with no pick guard, hard tail bridge, 2 humbuckers (black with cream mounting rings) 1 vol, 1 tone and 1 3-way Gibson style switch. Anyways, I'm making the guitar out of an old table I found in my grandmothers garage. Now, the grain looks like something from an 80's cabinet from a trailer park. So, I don't know what color to go with, that'll match the CREAM pickup mounting rings. I was going to do a sunburst, but now I'm not too sure, still might though. what do you think? (no black!)
  19. ladies like gold. Also if you can use diamond inlays, she'll love you forever.
  20. Very true but a les paul with a dimebucker wont exactly sound good if you know what i mean. And thoughtless 7, lipstick pickups are teh shiz.
  21. I know here most people are building all these MEG filled humbucking pointy metal guitars but For the select who play blues, what do you use? Nothing against metal/rock players, but I want to see some stuff I don't see very often here. I'm using a custom squire (don't laugh) with a C shape neck, staggered magnet single coil pickups and a hard tail bridge. It's got THAT strat tone that I love. I'm also building a semi hollow strat clone with 2 jazzy type humbuckers and a more oval shaped neck.
  22. and most memorable, the rhythem guitarist went to hit a note on the down beat and his strap flopped off and his prized strat lost a good chunk of paint on the hard stage. Keep doing that and it'll be a relic in no time! And make sure you guys know the songs down to a T and you'll be great. Also, tell your buddy to get some strap locks.
  23. jukkasil - great job, I voted for you. No offense to anyone else on here, but it's the only one to me that stood out, and wasn't a flame maple something or another with a Floyd Rose and emg's and some shiney polished stain if you know what I'm saying, it just has character.
  24. this simple- neg or ground from pickup split to outer ring of output jack and to the guitar bridge/trem. Pos to the other lip on the output jack. Simple.
