  1. I finished a les paul recently. I didnt do the fret job, bridge install, or nut.Got it back from guitar tech, looked great. But sounds really lifeless{strings dull sounduing}. Intonation dead on from 12th down.Sounds flat from 7th to 1st.Checked cener line, and the bridge apears to be out by 1/16th,is this the problem. Anyone have any advise,Thanks Chris.
  2. I've been out of the loop the past year, had a bad accident, okay now.I completed my 59 les paul, it turned out pretty good for first one. The only mistake I made was not installing the bridge myself. I took it to a guitar tech,he finished up,fret job action ect.The job looks great but the strings sound almost dead, no brightness just blaw.I went back to check his work. I established center line

  3. Marcovois, I'm curious to know if there is a distinct toneal differance between the west coast to the east coast maple top?I was curious as to the best woods for bright sound and killer sustain, thanks Chris.
  4. Does anyone know of a really good after market pickup that compares to those of a good name brand pickup. It seems to me that pickups are really expensive, isn't their any overseas company with lower over head lower labour rates that could pump out a pickup with the same quality? It seems a lot of pickups are over price simply because of their names .Thanks
  5. I had some deadly quilt but it's got snapped up sorry Jorge. I live in British Columbia Canada. Most people don't want to deal because of the exchange rate and shipping, you might want to try fraser valley fine woods in British Columbia he' got some nice billets, thanks Chris.
  6. How bout some pics. How much are you looking to swap(5,10,50 billets?). Where abouts are you located(might make any kinda swapping cost prohibitive)? Peace,Rich I'm located in Vancouver B.C ,I just wanted to swap a couple billets. I ll have to find a way to send you some pictures cause I don't know how to post pictures on this site yet. Do you have some PIctures Chris.
  7. I fell a highly figured maple tree 1.5 years ago and it yeilded a lot musical grade quilt. I aready have lots of 2a 3a billets but really would like to aquire some 5aaaaa flame. Straight trade. The billet size of the 5aaaaa quilt is 7.25x20x1.75- shy, in between1.625.I regret not making the billets thicker but it's still enough for .625 bookmatch and 1 drop top bookmatch. Oh yeah the woods at 12 percent moisture air dried. I don't know how to post pictures yet but i'll find a way to show product. Beautiful lumber for Beautiful lumber! OUT CHRIS!
  8. Your guitar looks amazing! Just curious what type of rosewood it was? Looks like indian? Do you find you have really good sustain?I recently got given an old brazilian couch from the 60's it was loaded with rosewood. I cut it and it had nice smell to it. I later did some research and found that it was santo's rosewood, i was hoping brazilian, but not so lucky. Anyway it's still a beatiful wood dense coloured and vary stable. Maybe I'll make my next neck out of it. Anyway good on yeah cheer's Chris.
  9. Just wondering instead of tinting laquer for the body of my guitar could I just use a minwax colured stain varnish let dry then start appling my clear coat of laquer?
  10. treble side. But I have one question for you. If you install the bridge when not under tension ,the scale lenghth will probably change won't it. Also a slight backbow is recomened won't that also change the scale lenghth.
  11. Need help with accuratly drilling and installing tunomatic bridge on les paul
  12. Idid some dots myself, using differant size diamond drills, slow proscess though. I also did my gibson block inlay from raw shells, but it just does'nt worth the time and effort, and all the dust that's involved to procecce it your self. Their's tons of great deals on offshore shell aready thicknessed and sized. that's what I'll do next time. But if you do it flaten them first on the side of a grinding wheel,(be careful.)Then lock the blank onto a backerboard somehow and use the differant inside diameter diamond drills.
  13. Thanks alot low end that seems pretty logical.Another question I've never posted pictures on the site is their any way you could tell me hoe to do it. Ill send you the pictures, thanks for all the help
