    ^ I guess I dropped a quarter and didn't realize it when I took the picture. It is yet to be played. I needed to order some pots and a jack to wire it. Should be finished tomorrow if they come in.

    Hey everyone! I haven't posted anything on here in ages (6 months is a long time to go without posting for me.) So here is the latest build that I am finishing up. Its an SG made of layers of Curly Spanish Cedar/Walnut/Curly Maple. I made the pickup rings, the knobs, and even the 3 way switch top out of curly maple. The inlays on the neck are similar (maybe exact, I'm not sure I cut them so long ago) to the PRS bird inlays. The Truss cover is made of solid MOP. The neck is birdseye maple. Grover Tuners, Golden Age Humbuckers, Gotoh bridge and tailpiece.     Yea, that's just a gouge. Make sure its nice and sharp and you should be fine, I prefer gouges for carving to anything. Good luck! feel free to pm me if you need any help or tips

    Ive been using these rods for a while now and I've been leaving 1/8th inch of wood under the truss and have had no problems at all (Its been about 2 years.)

    I think I'll go with the hipshot bridge and the EMG 808's anyone have any experience with the bridge, is there a cheaper option.

    Hey, Someone asked me to build the ma pretty basic cheap 8 string guitar. So basically I'm looking to find some 8 string parts at a reasonable price. I don' want anything fancy just a basic hardtail bridge and pickups. If anyone has any idea of where I could find some parts like these for a reasonable price (I realize that may be hard) please inform me. Thank you ahead of time for your help, Carousel

    Hmmm, I was hoping to go with something very cheap for pickups, and an adjustable intonation bridge. I don't wanna use anything expensive hardware wise.

    Hey, I'm kind of bored and waiting to get to the lumber yard so I figure I'll do a neat little project for someone.. I'm thinking of using some of the spare parts I have and putting together a small scale electric. I have one question though, how small, in your opinion, should a guitar be for a 4-5 year old child? I was thinking like a 17" scale length. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Carousel

    Okay I guess it's time for me to reenter. I think I did this all in late December early January. I really like this one, it's the best guitar I've ever built. Specs -Curly Spanish Cedar top -Poplar back -Strat Style Body -Bolt-on Neck with ferrules and a somewhat sculpted joint -Hardtail bridge -1 volume 1 tone -2 humbuckers -medium frets -rosewood fretborad -mop dots -black binding Edit: The white cover is just a temporary cover, I never got around to making the wooden or black cover. I'm gonna get that fixed and put new pics up today. -Carousel

    Thanks! it really isn't that hard. just rough it out and then smooth it out with a low grit on a high setting on your random orbital sander.

    Thanks guys! I think that with this guitar the thin lightweight body is key. It still sounds very good but also is lightweight and the most comfortable guitar I've made to play. The poplar spanish cedar combo is working out great for me. This is definitely my favorite guitar to play. I'm very pleased with the GFS pickups actually. The tuning stability isn't bad at all either. If I could only keep one guitar that I've made it would be this one easily.

    ^that is always my fear when doing it that way. I just use a long bit now and go through the neck pocket, much simpler.

    yes.. drill two holes starting at the centerline of each pocket. have them both angled down so that they meet in the center.

    finished this up, I really like how it plays. It sounds pretty good actually coming out of the GFS pickups

    Thanks Peter. I just did some work on the back sanded it and oiled it a little. Not done yet still needs more coats and wax.

    I used tons of danish oil and wax on this one, its looking good I think. I love the way the grain looks at certain angles (second picture.) This will be finished as soon as my neck bolts come in

    I did the pot holes and the selector switch hole, I don't know if Ill use those knobs, they kinda look good with the poplar but i don't wanna mismatch too bad.
