  1. What are thoughts on a black limba neck with a ebony fretboard? Is black limba a decent neck choice? The guitar would have a black limba body as well and would have a clear finish. Thanks
  2. I really need to sell or trade this guitar. Lower price - $725 or Open to all trade offers
  3. Looking for a true LP killer?! USA made Washburn Idol. This is washburns take on a les paul type guitar. 22 frets rosewood fretboard with abalone inlays 50's style round profile neck 18:1 Grover tuners Buzz Feiten Tuning System Ruby Red finish Seymour Duncan 59'er in the neck and Custom Custom in the bridge. *both have chrome/nickel covers Just got the guitar back from a setup by Rob @ bluenote woodworks. PLAYS GREAT! Made in the Washburn USA custom shop. One tiny imperfection/finish lift in finish by nut. Been told by luthiers it is about a $50 fix. Some laquer and buffing and good to go. Asking $800 obo. Email/PM for pics/offers Also open to all electric guitar trade offers
  4. Yes, the fretboard is maple. Just wipe of the frets once I've done a thin layer of tru-oil?
  5. Going to start the tru-oil process this weekend. The neck has frets all ready. I'm going to apply the tru-oil as recommended above (ooo steel wool/wax/ooo steel wool). Should i not really worry about the frets and then clean it off the frets before it dries? Any suggestions would be great.
  6. I used to have a single locking schaller floyd on a charvel. I haven't tried these "newly designed" ones. However, for $60 it would be interesting to try out to see if it actually works. The design sounds similar to the old schaller I had. IF you are locked down on both ends you are going to stay in tune. Also, I thread my floyd with the ball end at the tuners and don't have a problem.
  7. There are a few guitarist that I've seen do that trick. For most of them it must be nice to have an endorsement so that you can do tricks like that and not have to worry about destroying your guitar. Nuno Bettencourt used to do it all the time on the acoustic songs by Extreme. That used to amaze me.
  8. does it really matter how thick they are? one could assume they are the same thickness or maybe there could be a narrow few in the middle? who knows for my neck through bass i did a 5 peice laminate of tazzy blackwood and QLD maple the 3 inner laminates were 1/2" and god knows what the outside ones were, thickness? how thick is ur guitar/bass gonna be? answered ur own question there *edit, who really gives an airborne fornication what gibson did, if you are building a guitar you are building it for yourself not a gibson customer I'm not trying to copy gibson, I'm trying to find out what method they used for their 5-piece laminates necks. WHY? Read the top of the post, there was an article of on a lost JAckson Rhoads prototype. They gave very little into on it. 2 of the things they did say were, 1. neck through with mahogany wings. 2. 5-piece laminate maple neck. These were both done by Grover Jackson to emulate Rhoads' favorite Les Paul Custom. All in all I was more intrested in what other wood may have been used with the 3 pieces of maple, or was it all maple.
  9. Thanks for the info! Also, your book is excellent! It has been an excellent guide in my attempts at building guitars.
  10. Reading the new issue of Guitar World it talks about a 3rd Jackson Prototype RR model guitar. It goes on to say how it was basically built to be a V shaped Les Paul Custon. In the article it talks about a 5-piece laminate maple neck. What dimension would each piece of wood be for a neck through? I'm not so much worried about length but more so the width and thickness of each board? Did gibson ever laminate any other types of wood in there? Thanks!
  11. Hi Timius, I'm a newbie here but have had an Axis Sport since they stopped doing that fugly scratchplate... As Primal said, the Tru-Oil is from Birchwood-Casey, as is the wax (product number 23723 -PSW from http://www.birchwoodcasey.com/sport/index.html ). When I got my Axis, the head techie at the UK Distributor told me that EBMM use 0000 gauge wire wool to rub in the oil first, then once nicely applied they use a clean, lint free cloth to apply wax to seal it in. Once that's done and dried, apply a light coat of oil so the neck doesn't feel sticky. Seems to have worked for me! Hope that helps, Neil Neil and Primal, Thanks a ton! That is exactly the info I was looking for. Tim
  12. I really love the way these necks feel. What does EBMM use. I know it's a combo of gunstock oil and wax. What types, how much, and how do yo uput it on? Any info would be great! Thanks
  13. I can admit when I have errored. Soapbarstrat, I stand corrected.
  14. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with it being said that the post is in the wrong section. I'm just saying you don't need to be flamed by another member for a mistake. There is no reason to call someone you don't know a "town crier" or other names or put downs.
  15. I was scrolling down suddenly and clicked on this link instead of putting it in one of the guitar questions ones. I love how some people in this forum are so nice to newer members. The put downs are always appreciated.
