  1. Wow that guy is pretty skillled....he does do some interesting things with stuff he's found. I like the liquid cooled pc!
  2. Well it looks pretty good mocked up so far...at least to my eyes? I'm not sure if this is the right area....I was talking finishes at one point? http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t255/Wa...otherMockup.jpg
  3. Well it looks good to me so far....one coat of the blue stuff on it. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t255/Wa.../LooksGood1.jpg
  4. Like everyone has said before me.....you did a friggin' wicked job, awesome.
  5. No it's not my backyard, that's where I work. It certainly seems like home sometimes. Yellow birch is really nice, hard to split for firewood sometimes..well most of the time.
  6. Well it looks damn cool, and I like that you used pine/plywood. I'm sure some people were giving you the old stink-eye about that combo.
  7. Although I'm only a beginner I always thought it would be more logical to use readily available woods before branching out to the exotic/expensive stuff. Here's a few pics of nice wood I found right at work the other day...let me know what you think. These two are old white birch...could be junk but could have some cool spalted look in there. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t255/Wa...e/OldBirch2.jpg http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t255/Wa...e/OldBirch1.jpg Here's a freshly cut red maple...soft but makes nice turnings and has a nice feel to it. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t255/Wa...ne/RedMaple.jpg Here's a new freshly cut white birch that is a pretty impressive log which I sure has cool figure. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t255/Wa...e/NiceBirch.jpg Here's one of my woodpiles I was rooting around in, I found a few nice pieces in there. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t255/Wa.../LotsOfWood.jpg
  8. Looks great....glad to see some pine and poplar used instead of the normal swamp ash etc. I spotted some beautiful poplar at Home Depot, very similar to what you used, nice stuff.
  9. I'm not worried about dings and dents......I know how soft the stuff is, plus my son is 14 so he can destroy anything anyways. What's a film finish mean?
  10. Wow that's nice...the black hardware against the nice golden finish, awesome. Not sure on a name....precious maybe? It makes me want to keep it and not share.... Sméagol/Gollum style. Nice work.
  11. I'm finishing my sons spruce tele with some water based Minwax. Kind of applying it then wiping it off to accent the grain. Many people tell me this should be sealed with some form of clear coat because it will wipe off when the guitar is rubbed against things, sweat on against skin etc. I don't want any shine on it at all. Here's a pic of a test piece...any ideas if this would be true? http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t255/Wa...ne/100_1425.jpg http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t255/Wa...ne/100_1429.jpg Or maybe leave it with no stain and some non-shiny clear coat stuff? http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t255/Wa...ne/100_1378.jpg
  12. I may have given them all away, but I think I have one rough one left. I will check....you're right though, turnings really show off the wood.
  13. It's 5 years old.....nice and dry. And yes...the goose is here, forgot to fly south for the winter.
  14. I realize it's not of the "ash" family.....I think I read it was in the rose family, but I could be wrong on that one. Finding a straight, big one was pretty lucky....the wood is beautiful in real life, pics never translate at all do they?
  15. Here's some pics.....the cool grain doesn't really show up at all. http://s162.photobucket.com/albums/t255/Wa...nt=100_1384.jpg http://s162.photobucket.com/albums/t255/Wa...nt=100_1382.jpg http://s162.photobucket.com/albums/t255/Wa...nt=100_1381.jpg http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t255/Wa...ne/100_1380.jpg http://s162.photobucket.com/albums/t255/Wa...nt=100_1379.jpg
  16. Well this thread certainly increased traffic to his website.....brilliant marketing.
  17. That's the kind of wood I find very homely.....mosaic wood or whatever, not my thing at all.
  18. Well I like this one... http://www.zacharyguitars.com/071199pics.htm and this one is really nice. http://www.zacharyguitars.com/121206pics.htm Some of his stuff is a little funky with those different hunks of wood guitars....looks a little cheap almost?
  19. Ya exactly what he said....amen Rhoads56 preach on brother.
  20. Well didn't those pallet guys want $10,000 for an acoustic guitar made from a pallet? I thought that was a little much also, but what do I know? Zachary using found or strange wood is the thing that I like so much....anyone can order stuff. If you go out and search for and find something really cool, that is very..well cool.
  21. Well I'm a first time builder and I think some of guitars are pretty nice...he uses some interesting woods. That's about it.....I don't believe his hype, just like a few of his designs. Pretty straight forward for me.
  22. I think he's got about 3 pine guitars. I really like some of his stuff.....his preaching is a little weird sometimes but hey? I really like his new pine tele. http://www.zacharyguitars.com/120207pics.htm
  23. Has anyone ever used mountain ash at all for any projects? I found a fairly large mountain ash tree in the bush, cut it down and sawed it up. The colors are amazing, a dark heart with white sapwood. I turned a few bowls with it, it really rivals some of the more exotic woods in beauty and it's available literally everywhere in Canada...well snowy northern Canada for sure. I will include some pics some of the wood. I just wonder if it's ever been used for anything involving instruments. Here's a link that shows a pic, not the best sample. http://www.lotzdollpages.com/lhitorg.html
  24. Aluminum checker plate pick guard.....or all checker plate, kind of Papa Het style.
  25. It looks very nice. I also cannot play..maybe a brutal one fingered "Smoke on the Water", that's about it. I really like the shape of the body and the carving, good job.
