This is my first attempt at recording. Aside from playing better/something more interesting what tips do you have?

Did you make that guitar Daniel? To use my favourite New Zealand expression it is choice bro. I really enjoyed listening to your clip, the tone was cool, I like the edge a Tubescreamer gives.

My 2 cents worth is record over some backing tracks, or multitrack with a drum machine and a bass, or other musicians.

It is good fun to play around with the different settings on the POD and try combinations with stomp boxes. Jimmy Page was one of those players that realised that while a guitar tone might not sound amazing by itself it could sound great when the other instruments are added in. Alternatively, just stick a mic in front of a tube amp, this works especially well in a small tiled bathroom.

After recording effects on a software multitracker can do the job, here is an example, I have added some software delay to the solos to get a mix between Warren DiMartini and Tears For Fears on a backing track Round and Round

It looks sharp in both senses of the word, I like the mini V trying to escape from the big V cutout.

Fantastic headstock shape and the binding gives it that high end look.

Yes Josh, things like bevels on the cutaway are extras that will not appeal to everyone. Like you, I dont see a pressing need for scooping extra chunks off the face of a cutaway. But I understand how some people like them. I couldn't deal without feeling a tune o matic under the heel of my right and using it for vibrato, while others don't feel any requirement for stuff like that. I guess the feel of the guitar is an individual choice thing.

You can't go wrong with a Gibbo vee, it's all cutaway up there, so when you get a bit proximally curious, and do a run that ends with a screaming D on the 22nd fret on the skinny string, there's nothing to hold you back.

You can go higher though, there's always the neck pick up that can be used as a fret, and there are not many guitars with the cutaway that far up

I always stand when playing electrics They don't sit right for me when i play sitting. And I don't really feel like i'm stretching! I guess maybe it's a space thing asmuch as a stretch thing becasuse I have smaller hands I can get in closer without the body getting in the way?

Try playing the intro to Sweet Child O' Mine on a non cut away accoustic and you are just on the border of discomfort. Any further up and you need the cutaway. Are you are saying though that while a cutaway is essential for playing frets 19 + efficiently, that extra wood taken off a cutaway, such as a bevel is not needed?

The software that Greg mentioned has a 7 day trial so it might be an idea to see if emulation can be done without any outboard gear. If it doesn't sound that good you can see on this forum a few gadgets that get a decent sound plugged straight into a recorder. Here's another one, it's vintage and rare, but if you ever see one, snap it up,

The Boss Play Bus, it has a gain control, delay or chorus with depth and speed sliders, two phone outputs, a mic input, and an Aux input labeled "cassette in", this thing was made way before MP3s were even dreamt about. It will fit easily into your laptop pocket, and if your amp ever plays up, you can plug it straight into the PA and it sounds organic.

Cakwalk Guitar Tracks is real easy to use, it is just like an 8 track recorder on your computer.

how did you record that?

I used Cakewalk Guitar Tracks software on my laptop to import the backing track and then played along with the song. The guitar was plugged into a Pod that went into a Sound Blaster card. The Pod setting was press Tap Hold and turn the Amp Model to 9 O' clock, which gives you more gain than you can ever need.

Your right that analog and digital delays can be very different animals, I would recommend that anyone who is into effects not take an either or approach to delays, get one of each.
